Okay, so here's the deal. Some friends and I want to put together a throw away wolf-pack of frigates (By throw away we mean very low cost so it won't matter if they go boom). Main targets are other Frigates and rarely Cruisers/Battlecruiser. (Picking targets is always key).
The idea is a 4 Frigate team... 2 Rifters 2 Khestrels. Always working as a group.
My original idea was to have 2 long range Kessies and 2 short range Rifters. But with the tightness of the Kessie Grid it makes it difficult to justify. So would all 4 frigates equipped for Short Range work better?
How would this work for fitting
2xRifter High 1xSm Nos 3x150mm AC's
Mid 1xMWD 1xWeb 1xTracking Disruptor (4 of these total should even make the dreaded AC Ruppy wince, but would a Sensor Damp work better?)
Lows 1xEANM 1xSm. Armor Rep 1xIntertial Stab
2xKhestrel
High 3xRocket Launchers 1xSm Nos
Mid 1xMWD 1x7.5k Scrambler 1xTracking Disruptor
Lows 2xInertial Stabs (just Don't have the grid/cpu to shove a BCU down here)
What do the Combat Vets say?

An AC frigate is smartbomb meat. Equip for the 6km to 9km range band and you'll do fine.

Bigger range I think, remember there are EW frigates out there, like the griffin.
I wont give you exact fittings, but I recommend at least one of you guys has a web, mostly a rifter pilot. And the second with a tracking disrupter.
Secondly I think both kestrels should be fit with standard missiles, 20km disrupter, 2 remote damps and 2 cap relays to keep it all going.
Dont use intertia stabs, use nanofibers instead.
And have fun.

I'd suggest you all setup for 10KM+ range and use 2 Tracking Disruptors and 2 Sensor Damps. Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? |

The issue I had with the 10k+ setups are the sheer amounts of grid consumed, not to mention just how much juice the 20k disruptor sucks out. And being out of the Web range would make it tough to stop a MWD from sailing away from the scrams.
Smartbombs are a problem, but I really haven't seen too many ships that actually fit them these days. (and those that do are Frigate hunting so we would be in a world of hurt anyways).
With 4 tracking disruptors most things should have trouble hitting even a webbed Kessie/Rifter. And with the extremely low power drain of the web/disruptor 7.5kScram/Disruptor even the small nos should keep it going a bit. (And they would need 4 nos to drain us all).
Didn't think of the nano's though for the speed boost when not under MWD.. Good Point there.
Would it be better to have 2 long range and 2 short range setups? I just don't feel comfortable without someone in close to hold them down with a web. (Always better to be the one to dictate their speed)

At least 1 of them should have a ship scanner, just so you can watch out for smarties. If someone gets ganked by a frig blob, they might come back in a smartbombing domi or something. --- Space For Rent |

Battleships = Leave
Bout the biggest target we would aim at would be a Battlecruiser, and only then in extreme cases.

yeah that should work real nice. with all 4 using a tracking disruptor you can really screw up turret ships. also if u used 4 kestrels and each 1 fit a sensor damp and stays at about 18km that is really nasty even tho the dmg sucks

I thought about the sensor damp approach.. But once they get a lock, you have to break it for them to help. (Especially with the time it takes to lock onto them then active the damp.. They will be about halfway through their lock by then, reducing the effectiveness).
Tracking Disruptors on the other hand help you from approach through destruction.

very true, but the trick is if u have 4 of them then if someone gets locked then they charge away from the target until the victim loses lock and then comes back into range resetting the guys locking time. and that's if it can even lock out to 18km with 4 on him.
but yeah tracking disruptors might be a nice aproach too

On a side note, wouldn't MWD'ing towards the target decrease their lock time even when damped?

i would be biased towards 4 dampners.. if you get locked you just go out to 12km or whatever and dart back in... would only take a few seconds in a frig.

If u have 4 (2 dampeners per maulus) t1 damps on a rupture he wont have a lock range at all.

battleships would b usually easier pickings for u then battlecruisers, because the bc have cruiser sized guns which with a web can still hit and easily destroy you - battleships tho will have problems tracking you.
make sure tho to destroy every single drone the bs deploys before u engage the bs. - Purple Conquered The World, We the Universe.
