I'm currently running a semperon 2600 (1.8ghz), 768mb RAM and........a geforce 2!! :( i did have an x700 which was slightly better but not great, but that blew up. Sitting in the station im only getting 20fps.
Can anyone reccomend a graphics card upgrade that will sort me out! also i want to know if my CPU is just gonna be a bottle neck? I dont have PCI express so that kinda means theres not alot to choose from :(
Thanks

Edited by: Shrivala on 21/01/2007 11:00:12 Any of the newer card would be overkill for that setup, but i guess a 6800GT/6600GT would do fine with that setup.
EDIT: I think there's an AGP and PCI-E version too depending on what your motherboard have.

Yeah I'd say the CPU would be a bottleneck. Eve is extremely cpu dependant because of the engine it runs on, or so I've heard. If not that, possibly the ram, but I wouldn't be too worried about that unless you get memory leaks. -----

What i'd go for is a better CPU (Since you have a Semperon i assume you got S939), so a 3000/3200+ A64 would do good, and a 6600GT. None of them would cost much, that's like 210E in sweden (~270USD) and should give you quite a boost.

Yeah I can recommend a Athlon64 3200+ first of all. If you want a graphics card upgrade after that it doesn't need to be much. I run an ATi x850 here and it handes two clients just fine.

Motherboard is limited to:
Sempron 3000+(model8) (512,333,Socket 462) or AthlonXP 3200+(.13u) (512,400,Socket 462)
as best cpu's supported. So any upgrade to the video isn't going to more than a very short term fix with limited success.

What I hate about upgrading a piece of old hardware is that you want to buy a piece of new hardware. And when you buy one piece of new hardware, well, it goes without saying you have to upgrade the whole set but the monitor and hard drive, maybe the printer too. Been through it two times in the past year and a half, it can hurt the wallet if you haven't got it (Which I didn't the second time, but meh), but it's pretty nice when it's all set up. -----

Aye, if you can afford it, i would recommend upgrading it alltogether, A 3700+, 256MB extra ram so you got 1GB, a 7900GT/7950GT and a motherboard that supports that shoulden't cost much tbh. Should be max 500E and should give you a hell of a boost, but if you upgrade alltogether, check the strength of you PSU, today 400W should be a minimum.
