Not that I care about this sorta thing, But I made an assumtion today. That 2/3 of people online are AFK miners.
there was ~3000 people online before unscheduled reboot. Then about 5-10 minutes after teh reboot only 900 people returned.
This can be taken 2 ways.
1) 2/3 of eve players are AFK miners
2) 2/3 or less of the players felt it was a good time to quit for the day.
Any comments? ---------------------------------------

Aye, too many times have i known the server to take ages to come back, so i go do other things for a few hours, as most people i would imagine Mercenary | The Azath |

Or they leave their ship docked in a station and go off and do other things?

I like to go watch water boil while waiting for the server to come back up. Sometimes it becomes so much more interesting then AFK mining that time slips past me and i forget to login as soon as it comes back up.
But thats just me.

I would be absolutely shocked if there were more than a few dozen AFK miners on at any given time. I spend a fair amount of time in 1.0 space (my corp is based on the highway system) and I rarely see an indy mining. There are probably a few macro miners around and yes, the occasional AFK indy... but I stongly suspect this "problem" exists mostly in people's heads. AFK mining is somewhat useful when you're starting out and need ISK badly, but once you have a few million and a couple good ships it's just not worth the bother. I'd much rather leave my mining and hauling ships where I'll need them while PLAYING than haul them up to 1.0 space to AFK mine, and I'm sure most other people would too...

afk miners aren't that common anymore. i used to make my living off of them. now i'm lucky to find more than two in a system.
when the server rebooted i went and found something else to do, logged on a few hours later.

I always log on 10 minutes after it comes up. I spend my time in "dangerous" space, so logging on and lagging to high heaven when you log on isnt much fun. ¼_¼ ----- [22:02] <Kurenin> anyhow, on a more serious note, what did you think of those ideas? [22:02] <Hammerhead> we can't do anything that requires programming

Afk mining is good in the beginning but not worth it later. I earn 100-200k/hour afk-mining but gee i earn that from bounty in 2 minutes with a good spawn.. So it's not worth it
