Once again, CCP kind of too lazy to do some successful marketing lately, so let me do it for them:
Eve Valkyrie will arrive with every pre-order of an Oculus Rift which you can pre-order at 8am Pacific time. You will probably end up having a brain tumor after a few years of using it due to no long time studies, and worse, you might have to create a facebook account to actually be able to use it, but the only good thing about it is, that you get Eve Valkyrie for no additional charge as it is part of the bundle.
So yeah, after telling this to my corp, half the guys got excited and had no idea about this.
You are welcome CCP, I am sure thanks to me, at least 1 more player will play Eve Valkyrie. Oh and also, your marketing people need to be replaced. |

YOUR AWESOME!
But what do you expect from CCP? That they spam Local with it? It was well enough covered in various Game Magazines / Websites, etc.
And if anyone should spend money to promote the Occulus, it should be Occulus. I think CCP made a great deal here, so why should they fire the Marketing people who most certainly achived this? |

Don't forget to also make sure your video card is fairly powerful. VR requires the scene to be rendered twice (ie. GPU has to do twice the work), once for each eye, and high framerates are important.

All is clear now why CCP has remained completely silent.
It only costs 600 bucks prior tax and shipping. Europeans are once again EuroPeedOn, because 600 USD in their website means the same as 700 EUROS (although it should be around 560 Euros), prior ship and tax as well which will both also be much more expensive than in the US. So if you are from Europe, you will end up paying like 300-400 USD more depending of your country. Haha, what a bunch of jokers those guys at Oculus.
Ok CCP, you are forgiven. You guys better include some nice thing with that mystery code for the victims that buy this crap just to play Valkyrie. |

I just remembered something.
All we need to do is wait for the main industry to gather enough momentum. The one industry that always made a medium succeed. The one driving force behind any and every new way of spreading information and content. Once this goes off, it'll be a matter of weeks until we get VR sets bumbled with content packages aimed exactly at the people who will drive the industry forward and humanity toward it's final destination.
Porn.
If you want these things to get cheaper, contact your distributors. Your publishers. Mail them about it. Tell them to produce more content.

Thing is, and for obvious reasons I won't go into further details, several programs of that particular industry already have support specifically for Oculus and have for a while. In other words, it's already there.

Lol, you people didn't see this coming when Failbook BOUGHT the rights to the Oculus Rift? Why else would they do that? Facebook is nothing but a huge advertising platform, so it would only make sense for them to require it to use their device.
EDIT: meant to quote the guy above you. But yes, Facebook bought the Rift last year. When it happened, nobody seemed to realize what it meant. |

As sexy above mentioned, first generation hardware is always expensive. Plus the fact there is literally no competition out there yet.
Competition will come, pulling prices down ... ... and porn will make sure everyone wants one in the short to medium term ... ... boosting competing hardware creation.

I'm fairly certain that if you run across an offer that requires a Facebook account (as this one may be), and it's something that you really want, the smart thing to do would be to start one and lock it down to the point where it had little if any personal information... much like an email account that you only use for sites where you are likely to get targeted for spam.
I suppose if your need to make a statement by refusing to create a trash Facebook account is that important to you, the sacrifice of things you really would like to have is a small price to pay.

Time will tell. The VR 2.0 train is not one I will board anytime soon since my eyes are absolutely incompatible with VR hardware. Also, in a related note, I want to see how do VR headsets interact with presbyopia, that new friend in the life of the age groups who can pocket 600 $ for new toys...

I was going to pre order one at 400 Euros. But 742Gé¼ ? Nope.
Oculus just made a serious mistake. Good by EvE Valkyrie.
Wow, that one sunk real fast... 742 euros, right after holidays? Who are they aiming for, the 1%?
It's not like you need a $600 graphics card to drive this thing...

All I've seen from MS so far had a really narrow FoV and isn't much fun ... ... even though advertisements might look otherwise.

Given the fact that you can spend way more money for some Flight sim equipment the price for an Oculus Rift is not really expensive.

VRsets are more an interface to a new medium.

Hi, yes i know, i just wanted to make the point that when you do something with passion the price is just secondary.
Otoh, i can't even see them making money with the OR given the development cost, but that's just me.
You said it's a interface to a new medium and tbh i'm quite curious about that. I'm quite sure that the OR will open a totally new world to gaming within the next few years

VR is a medium. It'll allow completely new ways of communication and will make the world even smaller (as every new medium did, ever). With Virtual Reality you can sit next to your friend in China ... seeing him holding a gun at your head telling you to pay ransom, or he'll send you back to the clonevat.
You can teach children in nigeria. Hunters from central africa can teach you how to... well... hunt. You can join swinger parties from your bedroom. ACTUALLY LIVE - let that sink in for a minute - live news!
It's the ultimate remote viewing experience for the masses.
Stone walls. Papyrus. Books. Telegraphy/telephone. Radio. TV. Internet. Virtual Reality.
Welcome to the golden age ... we'll all die soon.

You guys should get with the times already. Ghost facebook account, yeah sure. Steam installs software that monitors processes running on my PC other than the games I might download from them; that's a deal breaker right there. If it's sub I'd make the choice depending on how good it is. If you're giving your details to pay before paying read the small print, they will probably take payment after a set period of time. Getting "stung" by that is your own damn fault.
If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

It's an objectively better provision than rift that you probably won't see in the rift until next year.
