Hi!
I have 12mil SP Amarr pilot. I have about 5mil in gunnery and rest on electronic, enginering, mechanic and spaceship command. I do ONLY fly amarr ships.
I am mostly pvping in a cruiser. And sometimes in AF. But now i was thinking of trying a destroyer...
It has weak tank, i know... but it has many high slots and t2 fitted it should be able to deal some good damage when flying in small gang...
My question is: Will a destroyer stand a chanse against a interceptor/AF that orbit me in a high speed outside web range (10km+).
Should a destroyer be fitted with beams or pulse (longe range or short range)?
Thanks

I dont fly the coercer much due to its one mid slot,BUT i'd fit beams,in a destroyer(atleast most)you are looking for alphastrike and distance. __________________________________________ Yes it is great being amarr. |

The problem when comparing AF's and destroyers is often that AF's do the same damage or better than the damage of a destroyer as the AF's got more damage bonus and destroyers have a RoF penalty. Furthermore the Af's will often survive a lot better which is important if you are gonna fit expensive stuff like T2 weapons and tank. The Destroyer is a very nice option if you either can't use AF's or if you are going to use cheap equipment (T1). if you are kitting up for full T2 the price between a AF and a destroyer isn't very large - especially if you look at the increased survivability of the AF.

i posted a semi in depth reply to a question pretty much just like this one, if you feel like doing a search for it. but it also states that for pvp, only the cormorant and thrashers are worth it.

Unfortunetly the Ammar destroyer, the Coercer is pretty ****ty or rather small beams are. I've been told it can't fit 8 dual light beams which is completely rediculous. It should be able to fit 8 medium beams in the same way that all the other races destroyers can fit a full rack of their largest small guns.

Isn't the main prob with a destroyer, other than limited mids/lows, is that it has a comparatively large sig radius?

Where destroyers excel is as fleet protection. Kit them up with all T1 gear, and stay close to your battleships. Very economical for the damage they can do, if you target the right thing.
When the enemy sends in a drone swarm, start shooting the drones. :)
It's awesome when you can kill a half dozen Hammerhead II or Ogre II worth ten or twenty times what you brought to the fight, and sometimes you can even survive the battle. If not, it's only a million isk down the drain. The main thing is it really ****es off the other side to have their expensive drones popped. A destroyer can shoot hard enough that it will often kill them before the player can realize what is happening and recall them.
If you have money to burn, a damage control and tech II gear makes for a way nastier destroyer, but they aren't all that survivable, so only do this if you are willing to take the loss.
Sometimes when I have scrap parts, I even come out ahead with insurance. Now that is a nice way to contribute.

dudes, STFU dissing some damn fine ships here.
as part of a gate camp, you WILL be getting lots of pods and shuttles etc.
cant say i have flown the amarr dessie too much, not liking lasers much. but last I remember I had:
7 x beam, 1 empty slot (IIRC it only has 7 turet hardpoints?) SB II heat sinks/tracking enhancers/signal amps
you will do some nice killing in this, an inty probably can take you out if he is skilled, but you will haev a decent chance of kicking butt hopefully.
a close range inty will beat you, so to counter this you may want a nos or something?
im not sure on the max range of pulse, but if it is pushing 20km with not too bad dmg then id say use pulse.
against an AF... depends on the race TBH lol
wolf or jag = you get pwned blaster enyo = standoff if you use pulse incursus = you win if you get the drones harpy = harpy win, they got the range hawk = you get pwned cant comment on others
really you shouldnt be flying solo, you cant hold them, you lack the speed or a second mid slot for a web to keep them in scram range.
anyway, i hope that was food for thought, enjoy flying destroyers :D
/me wants to get home to play with lasers

don't knock the coercer, it's a fine ship
here's the deal... the coercer will outdamage the retribution, but the retribution will live longer... in a gang in friendly space (or with a gangmate with a repper drone, etc), the coercer can be a monster
8xMedium Pulse II (scorch) 1xWeb 3xHeat Sink II 1xCPU
this thing will do about 260 raw DPS, with a 630 damage alpha strike... and this at 17km... that's very nice damage, especially in a small gang, as all but minnie ships will have no added EM resistence... you can pop any target that stays within 17km... however, if you get called primary, you will get in trouble, as you have no tank at all
if you're worried about dying, go with the retri, and take a damage hit, dropping to about 200DPS
4xMPL2 (scorch) 1xAB2 (or Web) 1xSAR2 3xHS2 1xCPU
in exchange you get some great resists... you can also replace a HS2 with an energized thermic and so forth... both ships will be near the top of killmails due to their very nice DPS at long range
and for bigger targets, swap in multifrequency or conflagration

What is the web for? Your guns will track anything anyway, fit an SB and get more seconds of shooting in. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

you'll have a hard time hitting fast targets orbiting you at close range, even with your crazyass tracking speed (for lasers anyway)
the web makes every shot hit in every situation, though maybe a 12km/s crow at 11km range would change this, I don't know
anyway, the web is a way to ensure nothing will mess with you, it gives you a little extra time before the web+blaster boats get in range, and is overall a good choice in my experience
