This isn't a flame or whine. I seriously want to know from experienced Gallente pilots if they have fun flying their ships and what makes this style of play different than say Minmater or Caldari in PvP in particular? What are typical Gallente tactics in pvp? Do they feel like a "one trick pony" when you play them or are they diverse?
Gallente is the one race I know little about but i am thinking of rolling a Gallente combat character to go along with my Industrial one and eventually be my main.
The only thing I know about them is they seem to have to fire from in close, release drones and armor tank. Oh and the Domi makes a good nano ship.
I probably should have posted this in the newbie forum but i would really like to see what the best players have to say and get an expert opinion rather than someone who has been playing for 6 months. Besides, i am not exactly a noob either. i just never played this race or flown their ships.
Thanks.

I rolled a Gallente alt a few months back and have been playing him more and more regularly - Drone ships make missions easy (as long as your drones do what they're told) and they are a total blast in PvP. Get in their faces with blasters and drones and a heavy armor tank - Gallente ships have wicked DPS, decent armor, and thick structure, making them a tough kill when they've got you in their optimal range.

Also according to the description the thorax should make a decent long range rail ship (if it had enough grid to do so ) Please resize your signature picture to be no more than 400x120 pixels, 24000 bytes. - Devil ([email protected]) |

How are the Blaster's tracking. Do you have to get in super close to hit anything?

I find other weapons are too picky with range. Get stuck too far or too close to a target and you're screwed. I like Gallente because my drones can reach anywhere and I don't have to worry about range with blasters because I;
a. Have an MWD which other race's ships generally won't fit cause it's unnecessary. I can dictate range for the most part.
b. I always fit a web on blasterboats so even if the enemy webs me I can web em back and I don't lose my speed advantage.
Plus once you're into blaster-range most other guns can't hit you. Fun fun. ___

Thanks Nero. That was pretty much the information I was hoping for. I am just trying to learn how Gallente typically operate before I make any decisions. I know all races have ships which are different than their races "normal combat style" but I wanted to know how extreme Gallente have to take that. Like a poster above mentioned, the Thorax description states that it can be effective from long range but it sounds as though Gallente pilots should be in close and use MWDs to get there and dictate range.

Best tracking in the game. Great for getting up close and personal.

Gallente ships are like a wet dream come true. Blasters are really fun to mwd onto people and blow them away with. Drones are great fire support, and gallente do drones the best. We have enough mid slots to be able to fit our propulsion jamming in easily. And we armor tank in some pretty spectacular ways. And last but not least, the gallente EW is the sensor dampener which always work, and can cripple just about any ship.

Also consider Minnie in the same boat with some regards as well. Honestly I have to say I like the versitality of minnie over gall. Lots of minnie ships are just like the blaster boats just with autocannons... plus you do 3 types of damage. :) -Steve

Domi is the most versatile ship in eve, theres the Blaster Domi, the Anti-POS Domi (Sentry Drones), Nano Domi, Nos Domi, Logistics Domi (Armor and Shield drones), and prolly several others.

I've found that blaster ships are really fun as long as you accept that if you mess up, you have almost no chance of escape. They really suit my 'charge, fire, then ask questions' play style.

Let's get one thing straight first of all: you don't roll characters in EVE and you don't get toons in EVE. Righty? Swell!
Now, Caldari and Gallente are very, very, different. About as different as you can get.
Think of Caldari as the generals of the old. Very militaristic, very traditional. Also, they tend to prefer the whole shooting line thing. All in all, in other words, about as cowardly as you can get, but they try to mask it by rhetoric and changing the meaning of the word honour. They're snipers and jammers, basically they hit and try to do it where others can't.
Gallente don't do that rubbish. It's all personal to them, urban warfare in the middle of the jungle and guerilla tactics on open fields. Tends to get them killed in fleet battles, but they'll go down looking splendid. Gallente ships tend to be effective at below 25km range. The Dominix in particular is worthless at ranges above 25km, but below 25km it's good enough to make people cry.
Minmatar is sort of like a red-headed Gallente stepchild. They do what the Gallente do, but with a bit more speed, less style, and a bit less action. They're somewhat unpredictable, or rather that they are predictable in that you can't effectively defend yourself against them - but then again, they seldom need to be defended specifically against. Perhaps a bit more fun than Gallente, but also a bit less do-or-die. Oddly enough.
Amarr are Amarr. Won't comment it.
As for the ship selection, Gellente have fewest bad ships, but also few really awesome ships. Their average is a bit better than the others average, perhaps. - EVE is sick. |

Thanks for the responses. I am finishing up my Mining alt and once that is done, Ill be making a new combat pew pew guy. I am leaning towards Gallente after reading this thread. I only own one account so I HAVE to make sure i am done training on the Miner before I start a new guy though.
Ithildin, you caught me...lol Yes i am still in the bad habit of calling characters "toons" because that is what we called them in DAOC. I even call some real life people "toons" so as you can tell, i played that game WAY too much.

Best tracking in the game.
ACs have the best tracking at base actually. It goes like this; lowtier ac > lowtier blaster > midtier ac > midtier blaster > hightier blaster ~= hightier ac.

The Mega is still the most used fleet sniper. Both Thorax and Brutix work quite well for long range if rigged. So does the Hyperion. Gallente is by far not all about close range.

And yet for some reason all (or almost all) caldari railboats have range bonuses.
