Ok so not exactly ice mining, but i am having to deal with the aftermath of a bucket of ice dumped on my college town (springfield, missouri). Needless to say that after a week of no power my freezer is well not so much a freezer anymore as it seems to be wanting to try and warm my food that i had in there. Was a rather interesting puddle of stuff left from the chicken, beef, icecream, whathaveyou. Well got that cleaned up last night and after having smelled week old brocoli doubt i will be eating that for a while. So as is now apparent to you reading this tale that my apartment has no power and has not for about a week. Super.
Lo and behold though class resumed today, which i guess is good as it had already been canceled for a week due to the severe damage the town itself incurred. There are still about 15000 without power of which i am one of them. The city has been declared a state of emergency or is that the state declared itself a state of emergency... ah well. Anyway the towns trashed, trees everywhere telephone poles and trees bent at rather odd angles.. a tree is probably at a 70* angle (small one though). Anyway i am posting this from school as an apartment with no power (or eve) is not much fun to sit in and do nothing. It is estimated there could be another week alone of no power for those of us still out of it. So right now im going to try and download the eve client and install it to my flashdrive :) so i can at least switch skills from school.
Ill be taking lots of pictures over the next week or till i get power as i really have nothing else to do.

We had something simaler in central IL. Some people where without power for over a week. Lucky we got power back after two days as they messed up and tried to turn it on when the lines where still down outside, a hundred feet or so if the ditch caught on fire. (though all the ice and snow, was quite amusing) So they came out and fixed it up in no time. :o
Hope you get power back soon, sounds like a mess. A generator is always nice incase such things happen as well.
---------- I gave up on sigs. As all the beatings are starting to hurt and leave nasty bruises. |

I live in Canada. We get what you get, but we are ready for it.
So I sort of know what you're going through, but I also am sad to hear it. From what I have caught on the news people were totally unprepared. Snow was dumped on places that haven't had snow since the car was invented.
Driving cars through snow is harder than you might think, if it's not native to you. I feel your pain!
Take some sweet pictures. If you show yours, I'll show mine. -- Max sig dimensions are 400W x 120H - Cathath ([email protected])
Purple matches your eyes a little better, Cathath. = )!

last time we got caught in a big snow blackout was about 4 years ago but at that time I was still living with my parents so was no real pain AGA always runs so we had hot water and a cooker and there's a small generator lives in the coal bunker that can provide enough power to keep the fridge + freezer and tv running for a few weeks (power was out for about 8 days)

last time we had power for a week was the aftermath of being hit with a supertyphoon. I tell you, trees werent the only things that were bent out of shape.
I still have pictures of a couple of billboard skeletons littering the overpass and highways (of which 60% have been taken down for safety).
I feel your pain bro, that + tropical heat in excess of 35-40 degrees C. At night. With mosquitoes.

ice sucks i drove to work once in an ice storm, because UPS never shuts down. chipped a good 1/8th of an inch of ice off my truck that early morning. its funny when there is a blizard or ice storm and people still expect their next day air packages before noon.
