I'm a small-time trader, mostly taking advantage of mission hubs and selling off my own loot. In the course of all this trading I've come across a few minor annoyances regarding the Market and Wallet interfaces which make things tedious. Tedium is not fun. In most cases I have suggestions for small improvements to remove those annoyances.
I'm a programmer myself IRL and I appreciate what goes into a huge system like EVE. So good job guys! Now, on with the griping.
Speed up the market interface
Opening "Sell This Item" is sluggish often taking from 4 to 10 seconds to display the text and an additional 2 to 5 seconds for the buttons to become responsive. Similarly, "View Market Data" can take 1-4 seconds to become visible and 3-5 before the interface becomes responsive. Maybe its just my computer, but no other aspect of the game demonstrates this much lag.
The lag makes selling items and checking for the best prices tedious. Tediousness is not fun.
This sluggishness seems to be a fairly new development. I don't recall things being this slow pre-Revelations.
Highlight my orders in the market window
Consider the following. Trader obtains a valuable widget, looks at the market details for it and puts it up for sale at the lowest price. A few days later, the trader obtains another one, looks at the market details and forgetting he already has one on sale puts up this one for an even lower price thus competing with himself.
Bummer.
A simple way to avoid this is to color or otherwise highlight the trader's own orders in the Market window.
Option to turn off the "Export To File" file info
The new "Export To File" dialog showing where market data exports wind up is handy... once. Thereafter it just slows you down, another thing to mindlessly click.
It would be nice if there was a preference to turn it off or a "don't show me again" checkbox.
Add "View Market Details" to orders in the Wallet
Consider... I open the Wallet and look at My Orders. I see some orders aren't selling. I want to know why, maybe someone's underselling me. Maybe there's just no demand for them. I need to see the Market Details for that item. How? I open the Market window and manually type in the name of the item. Repeat 20 times, throw in a few typos, and it rapidly gets tedious. Tedium is not fun.
The solution is simple, make "View Market Details" available as a menu item on Orders in the Wallet.
Add "View Market Details" to all Item Info windows
Similar gripe as above.
Consider... someone links me the info for an item. Or I open the item info in the market then close the market window or look at another item in the market. I'm left with an open item window. What if I want to get the market details for that item? I have to manually search for it on market.
It would be nice if "View Market Details" was available on the Item Info window, probably as part of the now empty "Actions" pulldown.
A way to default to the "Advanced" sell window
As a trader I almost never sell directly to a buyer, I can almost always get a better price with a sell order. So when I open the "Sell This Item" window the very first thing I do every time is hit the "Advanced" button. Tedious.
It would be nice if there were a way to default to "Advanced" when the sell window opens.
Change the default order duration to 3 months
The other thing I always do when I'm selling an item is change the Duration from the default of 1 Day to 3 Months. Tedious, not fun. Sometimes I forget and then have to wait 5 minutes, cancel the order, lose the broker's fee and set it again. Also not fun.
Consider which is a worse mistake, making an order which will run too long or too short? I can always cancel an order that's running too long, but I cannot extend an order which is too short. Therefore the default should be the longest order, 3 months.
I see I'm out of room, thank you for your consideration. --- "Only a stainless steel rat can be at home in this environment." |
