Hi
In the olden days if you wanted to go faster you just threw some nanos on. Now its not quite so straightforward. So can somebody answer this question for me?
Say I have 3 empty low slots. What should I put in them to: a) Go fastest without AB/MWD b) Go fastest with AB/MWD c) Turn and get to warp quickest
How about 1/2/4 slots?
Now I realise that I have asked 12 questions, not 1, but hey I'm sure someone knows the answers!
Thanks in advance

B) Overdrive Injector System II
C) Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Personally I dig the nanofibers as they give a decent speed boost as well as making you more nimble.
The above items have a dowside as well. Overdrives nerf your cargo and nanos nerf your structure hitpoints.

To me it seems that talks are that two (2) Inertia Stabilizers and rest Nanos would be the way - for combat nano-whatever setups.
Any pointers to this discussions? -- V.H. |

I don't have the item descriptions open so correct me if i'm wrong here. The nanos give you a speed boost of about 20 m/s and -12.5% inertia. The inertia stabs give you same decrease in inertia, -12.5%, and also some decrease in mass of the ship so you'd go quicker with an ab or mwd. So that would make answers to your questions be 1) all nanos 2) all intertia stabs if the decrease in mass is significant enough (bulky ships) that you'd get more than +60 m/s boost from your ab/mwd in place of having 3 nanoes 3) doesn't matter since % inertia decrease is same from both mods.

Apparently, the Item Database in eve-online.com is again out-of-date, the Inertial Stabs are not listing the mass reduction (bonus)...

In general I agree. But his question was what made you fastest with low slot mods.
Before warp to 0 I tried all overdrives low and found that on most ships I would never hit my top speed before hitting the gate. Yes I would be very fast at max speed but had few times that would be an issue. The nanos/i-stabs not only increased speed but increased my acceleration so while my top speed was not higher I found I hit the gates faster with them than with overdrives.
Best thing to do is test some setups and see what works for you.

Sorry forgot about overdrives. Assume I want to keep cargo capacity - so wont use overdrives. So is Nash correct i.e. a)Nanos b)prob istabs, maybe 2 istabs, 1 nano c)makes no difference
And interesting link, Vir.

Does mass play no part in aligning and getting to warp quicker? I'd have thought inertial stabs got you to warp quicker than nanos, if it did.

You know that sort of boggles my mind that in EVE ships have this mass and inertia and these get treated as if they are not related to other. In real life that of course is not the case as mass is the measure of amount of inertia. But it seems like there are modules that decrease mass and those that decrease inertia and they affect your ship in distinct and separate ways.
I just take inertia to mean the speed with which your ship turns and mass to mean how much it can be accelerated with an ab or mwd and forget about the real life definitions.

Whoa, whoa, back up. I thought the concensus was that mass mattered when considering how agile your ship would be.
And also, at least for heavy ships, inertia stabilizers are better for going fast with an AB/MWD (MWD at least) than Overdrives. They may not give a flat speed bonus, but their mass reduction makes you get much more out of the MWD.

Ok, so does this mean that reduction in mass is basically also like having reduction in inertia? Why is it then listed separately for the inertia stabs? Anyone has any links to any posts with experiments to confirm this to one end or another?

From extensive personal testing:
IStabs allow you to turn and warp much faster than nanos (mass appears to effect this)
IStabs give you a much higher speed boost under AB/MWD
Nanos give you a better base speed
For my 0.0 pipe running interceptor I run all inertial stabs in the low and I am hitting warp before the cloak effect is gone from the ship. For the speed boost, with all 4 lows on my crusader fit with local stabs compared to nanos, I get almost 2k difference in speed (no implants, and nav skills not maxed).
So to answer the OP's 3 questions:
a) Nano b} IStab c) IStab
To clarify on the process of getting to warp faster. A higher base speed can actually cause you to take longer to reach warp, as your ship hits warp once it is going 70% of max speed in the direction you are warping. If you have a higher base speed, your ship will likely take longer to reach said speed, so with IStabs, your base speed is not effected, but your mass is lower, allowing your ship to turn to warp faster.
This is not just me guessing here, this is how it really works. -=^=-

I agree with Billy here. In tinkering with my MWD Crow, I've found the best combination for speed seems to be 2 inertial stabilizers and one nano. I may be able to get a bit more speed by replacing the nano with another istab, but I haven't tested that. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

It is actually a rare pleasure to find a topic sensibly discussed in the forums, with good info, without descending into personal insults.
Also lmao at Beef's sig!
