OK I know I'm going to get burned bad but I have to do this.
I'm new to the game, on Trial and seriously looking at subbing BUT:
As much as I want to check out low-sec space etc I know I'll get blown to pieces at the first bit of trouble but I want to check it out before I sub just so I know what I'm "aiming for" by continuing to play.
I have scrimped to save for a bigger ship only to realise that minimal skill requirements don't cut it and I'll be flying crippled and may as well stick to my smaller ship rather than blow money I can't afford which I'll loose anyway.
SO!!
I'm asking any Scurvy Pirates, Heartless looters and hardened Psycho's that want to "show a noob low-sec" to call my main in game "Fire'Fly" and show me what it's all about.
Yes I know I'm probably going to get blown to crap and podded for my problems but I'll probably end up that way the first time I go Low-sec anyway so best to get it out of the way early and with someone who's actually going to talk to me about it :)
I am kind of regretting sticking my implants in now (from the tutorial missions) as I know I'll loose those if I do get podded but at the end of the day I can roll an alt and spend a few hours getting them again for my main if I have to.
So....anyone want to take a noob under their wing for a day or two :p *Updates ship insurance, Clone, and Last will and testament*

Edited by: Joseph Josavion on 23/01/2007 15:25:20 You wont get blown to crap.
Get a frigate, put a afterburner on it and fill the low slots with nanofibres. You'll warp as fast as a shuttle, will go about 1km/s and you can then explore low sec to your hearts content.
No one will be able to catch you unless you go afk in a belt or something.
[EDIT] MWD is handy if you can use them but definately not essential, an afterburner will do just as well for your needs.

It's good you're taking the cautious approach, and also good that you're still wanting to take a look despite the dangers. If you're not asleep / drunk then it's not too bad, I'll give you a shout in-game - and I'm not in the position to shoot you as one more sec. status drop and I can't go in 1.0 anymore :)

Edited by: DarkElf on 23/01/2007 16:36:04 Just to make a point here
a) there is a very good tactic which most ppl know for getting ur pod out if the worst should happen. just before your ship exlodes, left click on an object in space like a planet or moon or something and you will see in the top right corner a few option, one of which will be 'warp to'. just before you die if you click that button like a mental rabbit on speed over and over again you will seem to lag out a little but will actually insta warp ur pod away and only bad lag or maybe a sensor boosted ceptor can catch you. most of the time even that won't get ya.
b) you can get the skill isomorph or something like that, not sure it's name but simliar to that, which allows you to set up jump clones, 1 per lvl of the skill. these allow you to leave your 'clone' with implants in in high sec nice and safe (almost) and have 1 of them in low sec with no implants so that getting podded isn't a big issue for you. you have to join another corp to set these up unless u have very good standing with one of the npc corps which i doubt being so new but u can pay a corp as little as 10mil for them to let u join and then leave once they're setup.
very handy things

I like your attitude. Forget the implants and just make sure your clone is up to date. Grab a frigate and whatever gear you can afford and go for it. Yes you will probably die horribly; however you will be hooked for life on the rush.
No one can hear you scream in space, so just shut up and die already. |

Want to check out 0.0 with no risk at all? Simply make an alt, stick him in a shuttle, and fly out to 0.0. Your not going to be able to fight anything out there but you'll be able to explore to your hearts content, just set up a cheap clone at the system near the 0.0 boundary. Alot of people do this.

what they said...
basically, your only chance of surviving in sub .5 space is flying a frig. infact your chances are pretty good as you can warp away from camps before most people can lock you (there are ofcourse several ubers that can:).
if you fly anything bigger youŠll probably die.
i fly into sub .5 often in my minmatar slasher, fitted with a microwarpdrive and one nano or inertia stab in the single low slot.
this way i can explore all i want, i cant shoot at anything but neither can anyone shoot me. ive done drive byŠs at camped stations and played around with warping to 15km at a camped gate and making it thru before they got me:)
imo, if you gang with anyone else, youŠll just draw fire.

Which brings up my favourite saying:
"Being part of a team is essential - It gives the enemy someone else to shoot at"

Hahah, I used to think just like you. Low sec isn't really that bad. There's 0.0 space that's ran by alliances that'll kill you if you're not blue (standing system), but flying around in 0.3 and 0.4 is not really that dangerous.
For one, learn how to warp to 0, and insta-jump. That way gatecamps are often not going to be able to kill you. In my time btw I haven't ever been gate camped either. Apart from that, learn safespots. And read all pirate guides you can find.
I killed a cruiser and a frigate in my second day of EVE. I fit a punisher for 500k and read tons of topics. Practised a bit on rats, tested my setup, talked to people and went to low sec solo.

Low sec is scary at first, but believe me, after a while it'll seem like a nice calm vacation from null space. Hell, if in empire, I live in low-sec 24/7. Just keep your wits about you and you'll do fine.
Well, it's not like I have a choice in the matter, but hey. -------------------------------------------------
