Today I was using an alt in a Drake gate camping. I had an active tank setup that was pretty ganky for my first Drake. I popped some hauler filled with T2 ships and a bunch of BPOs. They apparently brought more friends than I did, so I lost that one to a NOS Domi. However, in terms of ISK they had the far worse day.
I was thinking to go the other route. I fitted up a passive setup that's got some strong resists and has been holding its own. Only problem is, if I want to shoot up cruisers...I'm sitting there far too long killing them and could possibly get jumped by more than I'm willing to handle.
Would it make sense to put the most emphasis on ganking? ------------------------------------ Shadrin CEO, Girlfriend Thieves Inc. Recruiting information |

I guess it's a preference.
In a group, ganking would work better. As in, you could open up on something, warp out to a near planet when the target's dead. Align to the gate, warp back as soon as something else is at the gate. Sentries might not cycle to you and you can warp out again.
With tanking you do run the risk of being jumped after you've engaged something. Try an alt in the other system, scanning, maybe...
But it's great when you're attacking something at a gate and the gate goes again. You're like "omg, omg, omg... Please don't be a big ship and dominate me... Phew, a shuttle".

Neither... tackle.
I think if your going to camp solo in a Drake you should maybe just aim for easy prey that can get you good isk. It can be alot of fun trying to fit for max tackle.... and makes any engagement at the gate a tough time.
You can fit 5 disruptors on a drake and still withstand the sentrys for several minutes.
With your BC skill up high and a set of resist rigs you can drop hardeners alltogether from mid slots...
In a large gang again, forget dmg and tank, you wont need them... think tackle also.
Of course not everyone in a gang can think like that or the gang will be too weak, but when faced with flying rokh or drake, time and time again drake comes out of hangar and rokh sits and rusts. Reason is the fast lock tackle drake is just so much fun.
I guess the point is with Drake, with it's 5% resists bonus per lvl and plenty of low and mid slots you can do just about anything with it.

I remember podding one of your buddies last week after stealing his t2 loot :). I've got a better suggestion than gank/tank. Don't pirate in another pirates home system, when there's 10 of them in local. Another tip is to use scanner more often. I was watching the 2 BC's gank an iteron V from my covops and they looked fine. They just need a better place to do it and not to have an alt on the other side sitting on the gate. Most people will recognize that as a gatecamp and go around.

Haha, except your buddy who lost 300m worth of ships and bpo in his bay lol. I imagine he felt safe having 10 old friends in local.
