I'm doing a bit of gate camping with my new Drake and was wondering, what's the toughest active and passive tanks these can fit?

Best tank this thing can pull off is probably....
4 Large shield extender IIs, 2 invulnerability field IIs 4 shield power relays 3 shield extender rigs (or 2 and a shield recharge rig)
you should also have the PG to fit a 5th large shield extender II if u're fitting assualt launchers, but that means dropping the invulnerability field.

I run
7x heavy 1x tractor
3x active hardner II's 2x Large shield extender II's 1x Shield relay
Lows 2x Bcu II's 2x Shield relay ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. It's so easy a Minmatar could do it. |

yaaaa, once people start hitting you I think they'll just say screw it and switch targets. Only problem I have with this setup is you would have no dmg.
Also, the cap would come to be a problem. With 4 shield power relays in the lows, your cap is taking a really big hit (Recharge rate wise) and I'm not sure you'll be able to run those hardners if you're warping around alot or get nossed for even a split second.
The rigs, I'd swap 2 of those extender rigs for resistance rigs.
*EM Rig *Thermal Rig *Recharge Rig
Is a good way to go. ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. It's so easy a Minmatar could do it. |

With the right shield compensation skills the Drake can pull off a positively NASTY passive tank. I THINK this is close to my setup:
Mid: 2 Large Shield Extender IIs, 1 Shield Recharger II, 3x Resistance Amp IIs
Low: Can't remember for sure, a few shield relays.
No rigs or anything yet, and it's still a pretty solid tank. And as with any passive tank, really throws off the Nosdomi pilots.

The Drake is a awesome tank. for a totally passive tank which requires no cap I was thinking of this (provided you have almost perfect shield skills and Battlecruiser lvl 5)
Highs
7x Heavy Launchers 1x something else
Mids
3x Tech II Large Shield Extenders 1x Therm Amp II 1x EM Amp II 1x Kin Amp II
Lows
4x Shield Power Relays
Rigs
3x Core Defence Shield Purgers
Now This is assuming you have Battlecrusiers lvl 5 and Shield Compensation lvl 5 across all resistances as well as lvl4 or 5 in the rest of your shield skills.
You should get >16,000 Shield with a recharge rate of 209secs(ish) (depends on skills and mine are not quite perfect yet.
This will mean that at 30 - 35% shield your natural recharge rate is around 185 - 195 shield points per second and your resistances with the set up above will be
EM 60.15625% EX 70.00% Kin 76.09375% Therm 68.125%
True these are not great but they all remove at least 60% of the incoming damage so your opponents need at least a damage output of 400+ a second to break your tank.
If anyone can improve on this please let me know.

vs.
Mid: 2 Large Shield Extender IIs, 1 Shield Recharger II, 3x Resistance Amp IIs
Anyone willing to do the math on which one of these actually gives a better shield per second rate?
I'm curious to know, I always see these passive shield topics with people that will swap a large shield extender for a shield relay. ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. It's so easy a Minmatar could do it. |

196 Recharge rate with 4 SPR's and 3 Purger Rigs. 3 Large Extenders II's = 16680 shield Which gives you around 212hp/sec peak regen.
Add 3 Resistence Amps with decent Comp skills and you have like 85/75/65 resistence. Thats pretty dang good.
Not to mention around 220 DPS with perfect missile skills and T2 launchers for better ROF. 1 BCU II shoots the DPS to around 270ish. Plus Drones.... Yeah! The Drake is a really nice ship.

How do you come to 85/75/65 for resistance. What I put down was the best I could work out. Best Shield resistances base that I can get is EM25% Exp70% Kin55% Therm40%
What am I missing?

What are you using?
on my Drake I have Kin/Therm/Exp Resistence Amp II's (for Missions) And my current shield resistences are 20 EM 82 Exp 73 Kin 63 Thm
I still need some training to max out my Comp skills.

Edited by: Shadarle on 23/01/2007 22:29:43 If you want the math than use the search function. I've listed in many threads what the best tanks are for drakes and I don't see why I should have to repost massive amounts of data every time a new person asks in a new thread. If you want the info then go find it in one of the 20 old threads with all this info already posted.
I've done massive amounts of math work and detailed checking on every possible drake setup. I have a spreadsheet designed just for this purpose.
I'll list the setup, if you want math then find my old posts.
Hi: 7 Launchers, 1 whatever Mid: 3 Extender II's, 1 Recharger II, 2 Invulns Low: 2 SPR, 2 PDS (if you have the skills and can use more SPR's instead of PDS then do so) Rigs: 3 Purger rigs.
This is definitely the best average (vs all 4 resistances) passive tank the drake can actually fit. As to specific tanks vs certain resists, it depends on the resist type but generally 2 hardeners towards the primary dmg type and 1 vs the secondary dmg type and 3 extender II's.

For a balanced Set of resistances I have 2 EM and 1 Therm.
The resistances I posted above we the 'ideal balanced' that I could work out for a totally passive set up at lvl 5 BC and lvl 5 Shield Compensation skills.
However I only have shield compensation skills to 2 and Battlecruisers is at 3atm
I did not realise you were ignoring EM so that now works out.
I should not take too long to get the shield skills up.

Yeah that looks pretty darn good. I think for a solo gate camp, going to have to drop an extender for a jammer. But still pretty good.

at a certain point it's better to fit rechargers then LSE II's, I don't know why people cram 4 LSE II on there..
1x recharger II = 100%--->80% and 20/80=25% so it increases your hpregen/sec by 25%
So LSE II>shield recharger II only if it adds more then 25% shield... I don't think this is the case with 3->4 even or 2->3

m y hybryd tank on darake is: hi: 7xheavy launchers t2 1x clock meds 1x large shield booster t2 1x inv field t2 3x rezistence amp t2 em/theram/kin(shield comps all to lvl 4) 1x t2 large shield extender
low 3x cap power relay 1x dmg control t2
rez goes for like 10768 shield points......13000+ when in gang 75em/76 ex/84 kin/74 thermal.....nice tanking....and shield recharge rate goes for like 200+ peak..without shield booster.. i don`t have rigs but i`m planing to get some rez rigs...or shield recharge rate rigs (that will blow up my shield recharge over 270+) drake is a awsome tanker.....better then any caldari bs`s:)))) _______________________________________________

3x CDFP t1
zainou 'gnome' kva1000 & kya1000
that gives you 144.4 shield/sec of peak recharge isn't that a Gist A-Type X-Large Shield Booster ?

I think your math is off chief. There is no way you are regenning 200+ hp/sec without a booster considering you have no Shield power relays, no rigs, no midslot rechargers and only 1 extender.
Nice resists though.
