Edited by: ToxicFire on 23/01/2007 23:44:56 Though halda did a wonderful re-write of his superb mining guide post kali. There wasn't much work up on rigs into the setup been sitting hear this evening chatting with a mate and he prefers to passive tank so I rank a few things through quickfit and came up with something suprising.
A passive tank using rigs aswell can offers resistances equal to that of halda Figures below are based on working against blood raider ships so EM and Thermal but its all interchangeable for any npc.
Hulk Base Reistance EM 37.5% Therm 50%
Halda's 0.0 Hulk Tank 1x Gistii-A Small Shield Booster 1x Eutectic Cap Recharger 2x Gist-B NPC Specific Hardeners
Gist-B EM & Gist-B Therm with maxed hardener skills have a bonus of 57.25% to their respective resistances
Assuming maxed out hardener skills for each damage type. This will give you a sheild resistance setup of EM 75.69% Therm 80.55% This is what I will refer to as the halda resistances from this point on
Ok now we add two T1 NPC Specific Sheild Resistance Rigs In this case the Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I Anti-Therm Screen Reinforcer I Which add a 30% bonus to their respective resistances This gives an overall resistance on the hulk using halda's setup + T1 rigs of EM 82.98% Thermal 86.38%
Now Remove the rigs, Remove the hardeners and replace the hardeners with passive resistance amps Pithum A-Type NPC Specific Resistance Amps Reistances are now EM 74.9% Thermal 79.92%
This is already fairly close on halda's setup resistances + t1 rigs Now we throw in the T1 Rigs and get: EM 82.43% Thermal 85.95%
For a couple extra hundred mil forking out for the pithums. Do people reckon its worth it to save using cap for the hardners?

I'd say hardeners, but thats just because im pvp only so what do I know about mining.

To be honest, I'd fit cap rigs instead, stick with the gist/pith hardeners and fit a pith a-type small shield booster now they're in-game. Much better tank. ---------- It's great being minmatar, ain't it |

I've been looking for more info on the best rigs to fit to my Hulk. I find it strange that the Covertor has 3 rigs slots but my ELITE mining barge only has 2 rigs slots
Anyways thx for the info. My biggest concern is pirates and either way scrammed is my biggest concern. ___________________

Just use hardeners, alot easier.
Gistii A-Type Small Shield Booster 2 x Dread Guristas Ballistic Deflection Fields 1 x Eutectic Cap Recharger
There isnt no problem with running the constant tank and mining so why change?, youd be getting around 92% resist in kinetic. Then just get therm rigs and boost the therm up to tank guristas rats

Different base value for kinetic so really doesn't show that much of a difference, Plus ya gonna incurr stacking penalities there... plus Dreads offer lower resistance boost than the gist-b's when active.
Theres no real difference in ease to justify using actives or passives. The only real difference when it comes down to it is cap usage. In the scheme of things mining and running a constant active tank won't prove a challenge but... I prefer to have that extra bit of juice in the cap for the shield booster. Plus u'd besurise how many people forget to turn on a tank.
Also if you run up against nos rats your gonna have an issue. This was a tailored setup focused more at mining in blood infested waters rather than gurista bunneh holes

1x Gistii-A Small Shield Booster 1x Eutectic Cap Recharger 2x Gist-B NPC Specific Hardeners
That setup lets you turn on the shield booser and mine at the same time. That will always beat a tank that isnt boosting. I fly to a belt, turn the booster on, and I can tank triple bs spawns no problem. With everything turned on I never run out of cap.

Go play with the stats you'll find that the passive and active tanks are basicly the same except for the cap use of active hardners.... the sheild booster is still there which I know doesn't make it technically a passive tank. But I was talkin bout reducing cap usage.

By the way it's Halada
Did you try the setup? Increased sig radius means more damage from the big NPC, and one of the Hulk's advantage was his low sig radius. I'm not sure trading higher resists for higher sig radius is better?
I'd like to see it in action though!

Hey Halada, First off... I live by your guide and have the PDF format printed out sitting next to my comp whenever I mine. Thank you for creating it!
But once thing I noticed is the BS mining setups are lacking the Rokh! The Rokh is the new BEST mining BS in the game. 8 x T2 Mining Lasers 4 x MLU
My Hulk outmines it by a steep margen but I still enjoy using it when I don't feel like risking the Hulk to Pirates. You should create a addition to your BS mining section.
Thanks again

You are right the Rokh is the new beast in battleships for mining platforms !
I released version 2.0.1 of the guide last week with updated info and information about the Rokh, so I fixed that :)
