Edited by: tiewan on 23/01/2007 23:57:22 Once, I shot a rabbit with a shotgun from about 10 feet away. It was probably the most unsatisfying thing I have ever done.
The rabbit didn't even get to experience the adreneline rush of being hunted.
I would imagine gate camping feels sorta like that.
I like being chased by pirates from time to time. It's fun being chased from belt to belt. Sometimes I get away, sometimes I don't.. but at least I feel like I have a chance, rather than hopping into a gate camp and exploding.
It would be nice if CCP added tactical environments... like system wide belts with 'roids that could block shots. And any number of other environments that people could try to run and hide in and requiring gangs of pirates to come up with interesting tactics to catch their prey.
It would be fun.. interesting.. exciting.. and all that good stuff.
Much better than a boring gatecamp

Wrong Gate camping is like having a pinata cannon shoot off every so often and you have xray vision and can see through the blind fold

IMO : Shots that aren't blocked is not fun for us but for the server it's handable. Shots that's aren't blocked by nothing isn't fun for us, but for the server it is easy to calculate : no trajectory analysis to compute.
Beside this, I'd love my shots and the others would be blocked but...
Smartbomb ftw :/ -----

Now, while shooting the rabbit may not have been thrilling, you did end up witha dead rabbit. If you'd been hunting for food, that would be a result
Same goes for gate camping. Its sort of the daily grind for pirates, akin to an NPCer killing belt rats. He may not find it the most thrilling job in teh world, but it does put food on his table -----------------------------------------------

Well.. I guess even pirates need to eat.
However, in my case.. there was nothing left of that rabbit

EVE is a game where chasing people is not a very effective tactic. When people warp they break line of sight, and leave their opponents guessing as to where they went and at which range they will come out of warp. There are no 'speed spells' or 'snares' to catch up with people as they flee, like you have in conventional MMORPG's.
EVE's mechanics only give the means to stop people from fleeing in the first place. (read: warp scramblers.) Even with scan probes it is very hit and miss and nearly impossible to catch someone who does not want to be caught.
Last but not least EVE is a game that revolves around chokepoints. So basically the only surefire way of catching people is letting them come to you.. i.e. CAMPING.
In short.. HAVE A COOKIE.

Eve revolves around chokepoints?
Huh.. well I'll be damned... Kinda sucks to be finding this out.. to know that the only future the game will ever have is to sit around at chokepoints... waiting for stuff to choke.
Anyways
Cookies are awesome.. I like to buy a whole package and just eat the whole thing.. Yum

And yes I agree more environments would be better. But lets get the ones we have just now working without lag first, yeh?

What are you some kinda master of the wilderness to have been able to sneak up on a rabbit? Got Injun blood in ya?
Or was it a pet one?
12 Gauge? What kinda load? Hope it wasnt buck, woulda been messy.
Not really pertinent, just curious.

Yep.. buckshot.. was deer hunting and I think the rabbit was thinking if it held real still I wouldn't notice it. It should have ran as I didn't even have a webber or scrambler with me, and my tracking speed is no match for such a quick and small target.

It doesn't, really. Head into the nearest alliance's space and start shooting. You won't have to camp to find action. The main reason gate camping is popular is, because despite what you'll hear in the general forum, it's ridiculously easy to decline battle in EVE.
