Edited by: Vadun on 24/01/2007 01:30:26 Stupid enter key, i hadn't even started typing yet..
I'm getting rather bored with running missions, and trying to justify the usefullness of my new Crow in High security space. My corporation seems rather empty at the moment, though they are certainly coming through with what they promised.
Pushing players to level 4 missions.
But thats not really what i want to do it seems. I'd have more fun in a mining corp (I used to be in one, splintered do to drama), than passive tanking my way through missions.
So when does one decide he is ready, or at least semi-able to participate in low sec activites? Is it something one can do on their own, or do you really need a corporation backing you up?
I can fly battlecruisers rather well, my interceptor hardly at all at this point.. Havent put too much time into the learning skills, but i want something new. What are my choices?

I was in 0.0 before my trial even ended, I was mining down in Syndicate and no I didn't have any friends to inject large sums of isk into my wallet, made a deal with the local forces in a particularly safe system with Crokite, so I could use the first few belts to mine.
It worked.

Just go do it. Forget low sec, the risk/reward is out of balance. Find a 0.0 corp that sounds fun. There are some that have very little if any SP requirements so there is just no need to wait for that. Be ready to lose ships and fly cheap crap for PvP. You could do it on your own in an NPC region but would not be as much fun I don't think.

If you're bored with high sec missions, right now would be a good time to go explore other options. There is no skill point requirement for moving to low sec. Try to be smart about it and don't hang out in pirate nests if you don't want to die way too often.
Of course it is best to do things in low sec with a group of friends, just more fun, but soloing also has its benefits. No, you don't need backing from any corp to do it either.

I think one of the factors holding me back is my total ignorance of how 0.0 works. I was fortunate enough to be able to listen in on an alliance channel in my old corp, with their fledgling Sovereignty. But i was left scratching my head rather often.
Also, i dont have a mic, and am not going to get one. This seems to put every potential corporation off

Edited by: Anatolius on 24/01/2007 02:44:12 The mic thing boggles me - the true value of teamspeak is quick intelligence and commands given to people who are listening, not carrying on over the mic. Granted, not having a mic can disqualify you from being a scout or fleet commander, but unless you're playing a hawt chick and the corp wants to ensure your cargo hold doesn't contain one unit of special delivery, I'm not seeing what the problem is.
You can go to 0.0 solo, without a problem. Granted, you're better off sticking to NRDSI (Not Red, Don't Shoot It) areas; getting to know the locals, and most importantly, finding out the name of the local intelligence channel and participating on it.
Solo mining, even in 0.0, is generally unrewarding. Unescorted barges are floating targets (not even necessarily to players - 0.0 spawns can tear an ill-equipped barge up something fierce) and, maybe it's just me, but a cruiser just doesn't bloody hold enough to make mining worthwhile vs. ratting.
Ratting, entirely possible. A battlecruiser will do the job admirably. Your only problem will be fitting all the tasty battleship-class loot in your cargo hold.
As for PvP, keep training the inty. I wouldn't give up battlecruisers myself for anything - love the bloody things, but some of the most entertaining fights I've had have been in interceptors. They're cheap, fast and hillariously fun. And if you join a corp, as long as you can fit a scrambler, you'll be able to perform a very necessary duty in defense of your space.
Edit: Stay away from lowsec in terms of living. The rats suck, the ore sucks, and you won't be able to swing a pink haired girl about without hitting a group of pirates. Seriously, 0.0 ore is better, the rats are better, and by and large, it's generally safer, to boot.

If lack of PvP experience is partly why you're trepid about going into 0.0, I recommend taking a PvP class from Agony Unleashed:
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=457057
It's 5 million isk and a pretty long session (6 - 8 hours), but it'll likely get you up to speed much faster than trying to figure out the stuff on your own. And you'll practice in disposable frigates that should help to get over any initial fear about dying in PvP.

I was lurking the forums and came across a post mentioning Agony PVP classes.
Head over to:
www.agony-unleashed.com out of game,
Or you can drop by the AU_PVP_UNVERSITY channel, or feel free to PM me ingame if you have any questions.

I know ppl that went into 0.0 right when they started the game and where successfull. I also know a lot ppl that went into 0.0 after 9 month of mission grind and failed.
It's not about time. It's about the player.
The only way to find out if you are a good player is to try.

You'll have to watch the map a lot. Once you've found some systems that are empty of human existance (or close to it) during your playtime, you build a "station" out of anchored giant secure containers at a safespot. It's like playing house. Then you find someone to scout for you or do a cloak-and-dagger-haul to an npc station when nobody's watching and that's all there is to it.
