Hello,
Basically, I'm at university at the moment, and I have no issues, however my internet back home is terrible, sometimes disconnecting 10 times a day, sometimes none at all, its unpredictable.
Anyway, I was wondering, what happens when my internet suddenly drops and I'm taking a lot of damage? Do i instantly leave the game, or if not, how long does my ship stay in the game before it gets logged out?
I can see a lot of potential frustration over the christmas holidays if i'm going to be losing ships to random disconnects.
Thanks.

If you are not scrambled by mission rats, you will emergency warp 1 million km away in a random direction, where you will sit out your 15-minute aggro timer, then your ship (if not re-aggressed by anything) will disappear from space. Your drones may make it back to the drone bay in time or possibly be destroyed depending on their speed, and distance from you, align time, etc.
If you're scrambled in the mission, you're screwed as far as your ship goes. Once it pops, your pod should emergency warp out where it will wait out the aggro timer as above. Please support: export of settings in editable format

Thanks for the replies guys, sounds a bit risky.
But could someone confirm if I will actually actually warp out, even if im scrambled by npc rats?

its 2 minutes actually .. and even if you are scrambled you will warp off..
15mins is if you are agressed by player... and if the player keeps aggresing you the timer is refreshed every time to 15mins..
Or at least thats what i gathered reading responses on the forums...

If you're scrambled by another player you certainly do not warp off, your ship stays exactly where it is scrambled. I don't know if this is true for NPC rats, but I don't see why it should be different, otherwise every ratter in an expensive ship would just alt F4 to save their ship. |

if you lose your ship due to a DC, just petition it. You'll probably get reimbursed. |

Fully passive tank a drake (all modules including hardeners get turned off I believe,) find a mission with web scramblers, unplug your network cable, wait a few minutes, and see where you're at. Either you'll be in the middle of nowhere after an emergency warp, or you'll still be in the mission getting pounded on.
Bonus points: have an module running to test whether your modules get turned off.
You can tell me what is and isn't true when you pry the tinfoil from my cold, lifeless head.

In my experience scrambling rats are quite rare. I used to fly a Dominix in level 4s and disconnect a lot, and every single time the only hassle was coming back to see the rats killing off my last drones. And now I don't even have to worry about that.
Just focus on popping the frigates first in case they do end up scramming you, and you shouldn't lose any ships. |

It explodes.
*EDIT*
On a more serious note.
Low slots (and maybe mid slots, I've never checked, nor cared being a armor tanker) don't turn off on disconnect.
So if you could tank the mission before you dc'ed, than you'll be tanking it after. |

In my experience, if you are scrambled by mission rats then you will not warp off, your ship will remain and any modules running will also remain on meaning that a cap stable tank should continue to operate indefinitely. Now, if you have sufficient tank you will log on without any issues, if your tank isn't enough then you'll log on to a pod and a wreck.
If you aren't scrambled then there shouldn't be any issues whatsoever, your ship will simply do as described by others - warp 1million km from your mission and your ship will disappear within 30 seconds. Only if you have an aggression timer from another player will your ship remain in space for 15 minutes. This is besides the point though because in highsec even if somebody scans down your ship in the emergency safe spot, they wont be able to do anything.
Another problem comes if you don't use a cap stable tank, and are a bit of a hero. I used to have a terribly unstable Megathron. It was ganky and fast for a BS but had about 2.5 mins cap life and I did lose a couple when I got DC'd. I wasn't scrambled, but by the time eve have crashed and the server realised I was actually not in control, the ship had already been destroyed. Shiny lvl 4 shield Machs are vulnerable to this but there are few of these now since they're all off doing incursions.
TL:DR The severity of a disconnect very much depends on the ship you are flying and the exact circumstances when the DC occurs. |

Thank you so much for all the replies, very helpful. I was planning to fly a Megathron instead of Dominix, because the Megathron looks beautiful, and the Dom is a flying upside down shoe. But I guess if i wanted more survivability, i'd be aiming for a Dom. |

No I'm not. I've lost plenty of drones due to DC's in the past, and got every single one reimbursed. Same thing with ships when doing missions, that is. |

Its not true, at least not in my experience....
I lost a very expensive faction fitted nightmare to a level 4 mission....grid failed to load properly, i tried clicking modules etc and nothing happened, a few seconds later i was disconnected...i tried to log back but couldnt, managed to get back in a while later to find myself sitting in my pod...this was a mission i could easily tank and spank.
Petitioned it and got a response along the lines of....." i am sorry for your loss, unfortunately our logs show nothing, fly safe".
