Edited by: Demangel on 07/12/2003 07:17:37 On monday my subscription to EVE runs out, and I have decided to tell you all publically that I won't be resubscribing right away.
I plan on somday returning to EVE, but not before christmas... this is both due to financial reasons (why pay another six months for a game I probably wont play regularly?), and the complaints I have with the current universe.
I could spend a day or two listing my complaints... but instead I will sum it up in one paragraph.
EVE is a game that is grand in design, scope and potential, but much of that which will or could make EVE great is still missing from the game. At first glance, the current universe is full of depth, mystery, intrigue, and wonder, but after a short while you begin to see how hollow the universe really is. All those POTW's (half the reason some of us bought EVE to begin with) make wonderful indulgent reading, but have ZERO impact on the game itself, and only if your lucky are any of the POTW's represented in game. If your truly lucky your one of the rare few capable of truly making a difference in the game world, even in the most marginal of ways. Not the way it seemed when I read those POTW anyway... EVE is hollow and a mere shadow of what it could one day be.
If I'm wrong, then leaving wont hurt me at all, it simply means I got some fun from a game that wasn't really meant for me. No harm done. If I'm right then when I return I will have this past 7 months under my belt so I will have some ISK and ships to help me get started in my new EVE, and some knowledge of the game in general so I wont be a total newb, even if I lose all my current assets and character.
so why do I share this with you all?
Well even though I never really got buddy buddy with you all, I have seen many of you here for a long time, and smile when I read posts from people I recognise who were here with me before durring and after the first beta tests of this game (No I never beta tested, but I remeber the NDA and Panns tranquilizers well!)
So I kind of feel like Saying goodbye if only for now.
I'm not trying to convince others to leave with me, or others to stay after me. I'm also not advertising to other players that my stuff is up for grabs (It either dies with my character or goes to those who made acquiring it possible, not some stranger from the boards).
All I hope will come from this post is maybe a few sympathetic posts from the kinder folks on this board, a few misguided half thought out flames from fan boys and trolls, and some words of hope from still others who know exactly what I'm hoping will happen.
You see I hope, no I DREAM of the day EVE becomes the game I imagined it would be when I would read the POTW's and browse the forums. I pray that soon, I will resubscribe to EVE and be rewarded by the game we were promised, the game CCP is trying to valiantly to make a reality.
Maybe it's a pipe dream but we all have one do we not?
To anyone I have ever crossed swords with, flamed or otherwise ****ed off, or irritated, heres your chance to get the final word :)
To everyone else, I'll miss you, and hopefully sometime in 2004 I'll see you all again in game.
Heheh as a final show of my support for this game I will do my best to log on for the big log on party on sunday... Might as well since my subscription runs out the very next day, might as well make one final pass around Luminaire you know? (my old NPC hunting grounds durring the first week of retail).
Goodbye, if only for now.

lol hehe, I should know better, but I couldn't resist (I'd always wanted to do a 'can I') *chuckles* But I share the sentiments of many here, I don't think we've really seen the last of Demangel. My subscription ends today, but Ive signed up for another six months.

I lasted about 3 weeks away from this game and came back realising that there was no other game close.
Hope to see you back in the Eve Universe soon

Wow I'm really touched at how nice most of you have been about this post.
It just goes to show that This is still probably the BEST MMORPG comunity going.
To my old pals in Satals legion (and any Krathians still left in EVE), I'll do my best to log on for an hour maybe durring the big log on to say goodbye if I can keep an eye open for me :)
As for the guy saying i took many many paragraphs to explain what I dislike about EVE, go back and look, I only gave my complaints in one paragraph the rest was just my goodbye speach to keep the squabling to a minimum.
Thanks for the kind words everyone it means a lot to me believe it or not
