The Vagabond has probably the worst tank of all HACs, don't confuse it's speed with tank though... you get one sitting still you might think it was a newb in a Stabber.
So, if you are in a Brutix and expect a fight with a Vagabond, two setups come to mind.
1) Deprive the Vagabond of it's only strong point, speed.
Fit five 200mm Railgun IIs for range and tracking. Fit an AB or MWD, and the rest of your mid-slots Fleeting Webbers (90% at 10KM)
Wait till he zips by, activate all webbers on him and approach him. He might still pull away from you as you might be webbed two, but with three 90s on him he's not going very far soon. Hence the 200mm Railguns.
2) Deprive the Vagabond of it's focus agenda, "Hit and Run"
Fit five Heavy Neutron IIs Fit an AB or MWD, and the rest of your mid-slots Sensor Dampeners
Here requires no waiting. You target the Vagabond and activate the Sensor Dampeners on him. He will have two choices, face off against the blasters which can hit him even in orbit at close range, or run. He'll likely run, but you never know. If he is determined to take you down, he'll have to come within 10KM and blasters tear Minmatar up real good and the Vagabond has crap tank.
Neither of these fits are a garunteed win. You can kill the Vaga with both, but what will likely happen is the Vaga will warp away or just call it a day. You can swap out the AB/MWD in the first fit with a Warp Disruptor, but you have to have real good Gunnery skills to lay down the damage to kill it while it tries to get away.
Get a Myrm and the above setup, it has better slot layout, and a Myrm can kill a Brutix. All skills being equal that is.

Was NPCing in my Raven and a solo Vaga came in and engaged. I had 6 T2 Cruise with T1 Dev Cruise and 2 E500 NOS, Tank, 2 BCU II. We shot at each other for 10 mins and neither of us could break each others tanks. Had a laugh in local and went our seperate ways...

If you can fit a corpus nos as he is likely been using better. You will balance things much more.
You CAN tank it. My cyclone have tanked vagabonds long enough for me to travel 30 km to gate. Just pray that your cap booster charges stock is enough.
How are you gonna jump after you got aggression by using your corpum nos ?, and..fitting a 60m nos on a 30m bc.. doesnt sound too cost effective.
If you can tank him until you reach the gate, you can tank him 30 sec more with the nos deactivated.
And the price thing is ridiculows. I Use a Hurricane with 3 rigs, all his 6 guns cost more than 15 mil together and domination wbfier.
If you expect to defeat a vagabons with cheap equipment then your problems is not setup wise... but reality waise.
If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

Umm im going out on a limb here but you won't be able to kill a decent vaga. Your going to keep trying until you find the one idiot who has a **** setup and he'll end up killing himself after losing countless brutix's. Their to fast and your to slow and faction crap on a brutix is just a waste.
Tip: don't engage, if he comes in range then engage him.
Use some decent judgment, doesn't have to be much

....ok if you can tell me how the hell i can get close enough for blaster...
there is no way it can catch up except:
- dumb vaga pilot who thinks 10km nos are great - dumb vaga pilot who thinks its smart to web a brutix - dumb vaga pilot who wont shoot webbing drones, if they can catch up in the first place - i got a fancy faction web, which is very unlikely (my wallet shows about 1-2M right now, donations welcome)
rails on a brutix, nah I fly this thing todo actually damage and I prefer to be as close as possible... Rails are just pointless except for sniping. i was used to be ceo and now I have nothing to say, this is so relaxing :) |

Try using tracking disruptors, just a single one will force a vaga to enter nos/web range instead of fighting at 19km.

Well you might not kill him with rails but you can hurt him with decent skills and won't be killed yourself.
As for catching him even with rigs, istabs, nanos and the best mwd and snakes I doubt you'd catch a vaga unless he was asleep especially if he's speed fitted as well.
If you want to get him close dampen him as it's been suggested and try to lure him into web range. Other than that get a mate to uncloak in a Rapier and tripple web the bastard!

Even the Muninin has way more DPS than the Vagabond.
How so? Both have 5 guns and a 5% damage and RoF bonus.
Both the Muninn's dmg bonuses are from cruiser skill and therefore are automatically maxed. HAC 5 is uncommon.
+
Muninn has tracking bonus.
+
Vast powergrid difference. 425mm auto Muninns are common, due to the tracking bonus they are very effective. 99.99% of Vagas run dual 180s or 220s.
Set up a Muninn with 5 425s, 2 assaults... the dmg output is immense.
