Ok, no offense to peeps who use em, but bright white sigs have the effect of a flashlight shining into the eyes of whoever sits in front of the monitor. The dimmed design of the eve-forums creates a strong contrast to these sigs and enhances the flashlight effect.
Just as inspiration, whoever uses a bright white sig, would be a lot nicer to look at if it was dimmed a lil.

Nah, thats not bright white. And yours looks cool.
What I am talking about is real bright white, like Marcus TheMartin's sig. Have a look at the female corp thread for example, you'll see it there.

You know, creating contrast is exactly the idea of attracting attention.
Also, if looking at your computer screen is causing you physical discomfort, it might be advised to adjust your display and/or monitor settings? --- WTS: Forum Signatures, 30mil a piece. Evemail me!

Yea, well, bright neon green mixed with bright neon pink will also attract attention by hurting the eyes. If that's what's intended
And no, I am not going to adjust my monitor settings to dim sigs. I just scroll them out of the visible area, that's easier.

I don't mind the white sigs, its the bright white text on black background that hurts my eyes the most.

A smooth border I guess? Easy enough to do and .png works perfectly for that. However, some browsers (*cough*) doesn't like images with an alpha channel, displaying all non-255 alpha values as a single (messed up) opaque color. So single color transparency is the way to go I'm afraid...

One solution for this is to use firefox (newest version) which allows you to block images. That way you are not hindered by signatures (and even preserve downloading bandwidth for these sigs).
Affcourse it would be a shame because some signatures are really nice to look at (makes me wish i could be so handy with graphics, unfortunately im not really creative in that matter).
I like the blocking functions though as it also allows me to block off the real annoying really flashing and blinking ads (awaiting some addition to be able to block flash stuff aswell though, because nasty ad company's now make them in flash).
