Will the character portrait creator be redesigned for better graphics/realism or will it stay the same.
What you guys think should happen?
I think it should be redesigned and we all get a chance to either redo our character portraits with the new engine or all our portraits are just upgraded to look better.

New char portraits, and let us re-do them. My camp hairstyle is starting to itch when I'm out in space for more than a few hours. ---

I'm guessing the portraits will be improved, but in a stunning twist, rookie pilots will enter the game with the new graphics and veterans will have to wait a year or more to get their pictures updated. Much bitter whining will ensue, with vets screaming to get the new graphics and n00bs telling them it's really not that big of a deal and to stop acting like crybabies. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Walking in stations will bring next-gen characters / avatars to EVE and they will replace the ones that you have now.
You will most likely have to define your character look again from scratch, as the new character rendering system is very different from the old character rendering system.
The new system relies more on normal maps and skeletal deformation rather than morph shapes, as it is an animation system that supports rendering multiple characters in high-detailed environments at the same time.
I know many people have become very emotionally attached to their portraits, so we will try to make it possible for you to clothe and decorate your new character so that they look similar to the old ones, but as this is an evolutional step in both detail and overall quality, some wierd costumes, hairstyles and dodgy frowns will probably not be reproducable.
And yes, the Amarrs will be able to wear robes that cover their face...
As for release dates... I can't provide you with those yet :(
Hope that clears things up

But will we be able to create faces that A: Don't look over 60 and decrepit and B: Don't look really, really ****ed off? This is vitally important!

one would hope it would be backwards compatible... :), but DX10 features that are not DX9 cant be enabled, i guess the client would have to detect the dx version on startup and disable the dx10 features at that point. But has been said DX 9 will be around for at least 3 years more yet and longer before DX10 even begins to have a serious take up once the Dx10 cards are more refined.

Maybe it's just me being retarded (which is quite likely) but I believe I saw a trailer somewhere concerning this, and it basicly said they'd basicly, in simple terms, add bodies to the current heads and make it 3d?

Meh, any new player will do that, regardless of the game and options available.
I did take some time to choose my character's look, but to be honest, the background's a bit... bland and the way my head is titled hides the tattoo on his face.
