--- Yes this is long but I hope it is at least mildly entertaining. Let me know if there are too many images to click through and I will try and cut the numbers down in future installments. Also, please leave feedback on how to improve. Thanks :) ---
I first began playing EVE around mid 2006 but havenGÇÖt played seriously since 2007. My knowledge of 0.0 is almost non-existent and yet I find the politics of EVE to be one of the most fascinating aspects of the game.
Therefore I will be flying into the depths of space with nothing but a trusty shuttle to visit and talk with each alliance. I want to find out what motivates them, what their experiences are, what defines the game for them, what cool things they have done and most importantly, who are they trying to kill? Essentially, what is 0.0 all about?
IGÇÖm hoping that new players will find this interesting and educational, high-sec players will get an insight into how the GÇÿother halfGÇÖ live and the 0.0 players get to talk about themselves, their alliances and share their passion. So we beginGǪ
First off I moved to a low sec system on the borders of 0.0 and created a friendly sounding corporation that would reassure players and provide information about my endeavour
http://eve-files.com/dl/250369
Then a nice friendly biography that was sure to interest any passing pilot.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250370
I fired up the influence map to pick out my first destination. I wanted to start with smaller alliances while I established myself and my investigative techniques. Geminate looked attractive and I had actually been based there for a while back in 2007 GÇô A fitting place to return to.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250372
In Geminate reside: Imperial Legion, United Pod Service, Solar Fleet and Solar Wing. I set the autopilot and began my adventure, I was so excited that I resolved to interview the first person I came across.
Imagine my luck, when in the first system I had the choice of not one pilotGǪ but two!
http://eve-files.com/dl/250373
Truly fate had smiled upon me this day, my journey was blessed with good fortune and I knew myself to be on the right path. I greeted the pilots.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250375
Truly, it is difficult to screenshot movement, in the same way it is difficult to screenshot the lack of movement. For a lack of movement is what I had in my chat window. I was distraught; they had ignored me! But my mother always told me that a man who gives up is not a true man GÇô and I am a true (wo)man! I was foolish to think that I could stroll into 0.0 and the galaxies denizens would flock to me with tales of valour and yarns of epic wars. It seems obvious in hindsight that a bucket load of perseverance and a cup load of journalist guile would be required for me to achieve my aims.
You have to take the scorn. http://eve-files.com/dl/250376
And guess wildly. http://eve-files.com/dl/250377
Consider that they may just be winding you up. http://eve-files.com/dl/250378
Deal with rejection. http://eve-files.com/dl/250380
Lower your standards. http://eve-files.com/dl/250381
And then deal with it when they just stop talking to you. (Once again, itGÇÖs hard to screenshot nothing happening.)
I did meet this nice chap while searching for some Imperial Legion members to talk to. He was very nice, if a little uninformed about the capabilities of his hardware, but he did point me in the right direction of the Imperial Legions base of operations. Finally, progress.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250382
I entered the system and led straight in with my honed technique of enticing pilots to spill the beans.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250384 http://eve-files.com/dl/250386 http://eve-files.com/dl/250385 http://eve-files.com/dl/250387
Well. Not exactly as planned. I did manage to grab a picture of the station though. I tried to elicit some information one last time as I took a daredevil, point-blank-range fly by shooting of their station. http://eve-files.com/dl/250388 GÇ£Welcome to nullGÇ¥ indeed, would this be the running theme of my adventures?
But, as I jumped out of the system in search of a more receptive audience, something most heart warming happenedGǪ |

The stories I am sure would be more interesting in the south as they are fighting over comparatively worthless space. What motivations would they hold secret?
Also, the south is a damn warzone currently... |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate it, especially as I already have about 6 posts worth of material.
Geminate - Yeah, I wanted to start with the smaller alliances while I estalished how I was going to approach the whole thing, lets me learn 0.0 a bit and get comfortable.
Video - I don't have the know-how or time for that, plus my laptop would literally combust if I tried it.
Paranoia - Oh yeah! It's fun, you get a lot of the "I'm not talking to you" but there are also some really cool people out there.
By the way, don't hang on your seats for updates. I don't want to post too often as I want to keep the forum posts quite some way behind my actual progress for various reasons (plus I'm insanely busy).
It will be a shuttle all the way, even if I just blog about how merciless the southern pilots are :)
Also, if I have already visited your alliance and you want to talk to me, feel free to drop me an EVE mail. The 0.0 Investigation - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=46555 In-game channel: EIES

PART 2
I was left dejected as I warped back to the gate; these vagabonds had ejected me from the system without firing a shot! I came in open eyed wonder, with a naivety fuelled by curiosity and they had just mocked me. No one wanted to talk to me.
I think I may have returned to empire had the next thing on my screen after jumping into the next system not been this:
http://eve-files.com/dl/250394
It is difficult to explain that feeling when your faith is restored, when that lone warm hand is extended from the faceless crowd. Truly Sean Kingst0n is a hero.
I think the excitement of civil conversation got to me and I began to babble at my saviour, but he rose to the challenge of my investigative diarrhoea and answered my questions. My first interview of the project! (All applaud!)
http://eve-files.com/dl/250395
We had to move into a private chat as some of the hostile vagabonds came into the system, no doubt to ridicule my project all over again. I ran away in search of some pilots from the United Pod Service.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250396
Meanwhile Sean had brought me up to speed on the local politics and so we moved onto his own experiences.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250397
I arrived safe and sound with the United Pod Service and yet their welcome left me with horrific flashbacks of a previous first meeting with a group of foul mouthed Vagabonds. Who did these jokers think they were? But as my mum once said, a man who cries in the face of danger is likely to be bullied by small girls; so I did not cry GÇô I ignored them heroically.
Mr Shrapnel from Imperial Legion joined me for a little chat and voiced a little worry about participating in my interview. He neednGÇÖt have worried reallyGǪ
http://eve-files.com/dl/250398 http://eve-files.com/dl/250400 http://eve-files.com/dl/250401
Here we interrupt the saga for the first moment I came face to face with a pilot in 0.0 (via the overview). It was a tense time while I waited for my shuttle to align and get to warp speed.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250403
During that frightful few moments my ability to accurately screenshot my interview utterly failed me. Between the first and second box Sharpnel talks about how they end up in some space somewhere and between the second and third he blames communication for the problem.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250402 http://eve-files.com/dl/250404 http://eve-files.com/dl/250406
Interlude: A pretty picture of a station. http://eve-files.com/dl/250407
http://eve-files.com/dl/250408 http://eve-files.com/dl/250410
As you can see, I had to force the information out like the last bit of toothpaste in the tube. I included all of it (except for that which I failed to screenshot) because it chronicles the dangers that smaller alliances face in the ever changing politics of EVE, plus, it was a huge story. But I enjoyed it, so you should too!
I finally got some sense out of the UPS pilots: http://eve-files.com/dl/250409
Next time: I fly really close to a station and I find myself inside many gigantic bubbles!
--- A lot of conversation in this part (Although it is somewhat the point of the project). But is it too much to hold your attention or do you find it interesting? There are plenty of scenic pictures I can use to provide breaks though, I like taking pictures :) Please provide feedback so I can make this as interesting as possible. Thanks. It is. but it is also home to some very good people. I have found 0.0 to be a close knit community that doesn't trust outsiders. Generally shoot 1st and ask questions later.
And then one worries about what intel one would give out.

Another tips might be to include anonymity if players don't want to be caught giving out information, like greying out their name and portrait before you upload the screenshots. People tend to be more talkactive if they can't be identified.

PART 3
I begin the next stage of my adventure with this picture of a Solar Fleet station, clearly they are overcompensating for something; perhaps their inability to talk to meGǪ http://eve-files.com/dl/250417
While I was waiting for a reply from the two UPS pilots I contacted the previous night I headed south to check out the two Sun powered alliances in Geminate. Solar Wind held a small amount of space while Solar Fleet appeared to be their bigger brother and also held a lot of space further east. http://eve-files.com/dl/250418
While I flew aimlessly around Solar space trying to find some actual people I managed to lure in a UPS pilot with my reporter charms, but somehow I found myself to be on the receiving end of a thorough inspection! http://eve-files.com/dl/250419
I managed to artfully seize control of proceedings and started to gorge myself on information, I was interested to discover the lure of null sec for the smaller alliances and what difficulties they faced. http://eve-files.com/dl/250421 http://eve-files.com/dl/250422
I found it very interesting that he held such a strong view on having a presence in 0.0. I wondered if this is the rationale behind renting space GÇô to hold some space of your own at any cost. I had also heard a lot about this DRF vs NC war, DRF appeared to consist of various Russian alliances from the east and NC are a smallish alliance in the north. Clearly I lacked a full understanding of the matters at hand and resolved to visit both NC and DRF in the near future to get to the bottom of the matter.
Tek then questioned my integrity as a truly neutral party. It appears that even those who are willing to share their stories are suspicious of everyone around them. I hope that then natural distrust of EVEGÇÖs pilots will not dissuade them from divulging their greatest secrets to me! I attempted to probe out TekGÇÖs inner fearsGǪ http://eve-files.com/dl/250425
Meanwhile I had still failed to locate any pilots from either Solar allianceGǪ IGÇÖm not sure if people were ignoring me or I had resorted to just shouting out into the depths of space. http://eve-files.com/dl/250426
However, I did spot an opportunity! I was alone in a hostile system with one of the greatest structures in EVE: a station. So I decided to fly up to it and take a picture. http://eve-files.com/dl/250427
Lovely. I got bored in the land of the Sun alliance. Clearly its inhabitants were too bright to get caught in an interview with me. I plotted a course to Raiden, my first major alliance! Tek gave me some advice about entering their space http://eve-files.com/dl/250429
IGÇÖll be honest with you, without a system name to avoid I just picked a random spot in RaidenGÇÖs space and followed the autopilot http://eve-files.com/dl/250430
I once more had a close encounter with death where I had to expertly press the jump button before the guardians of the gate violently podded me. http://eve-files.com/dl/250431
With that task completed with perfection I encountered some very helpful Solar alliance members on my way north. http://eve-files.com/dl/250432
But waitGǪ WerenGÇÖt Solar and Legion of Death part of DRF? I think he may have been telling me tall tales to trick me into going away. Or perhaps there is trouble in paradise for the Russians? Either way, I get the idea that they donGÇÖt want to talk to me. I resolve to return later when I have purchased some sun factor 50 and can shine as brightly as they do and treat with them as equals.
But at last I make it out of Geminate. Yes, thatGÇÖs right you vagabonds, those that mocked my ideas, mocked my choices. I have moved in with the big boys! http://eve-files.com/dl/250433 http://eve-files.com/dl/250434
Ok. I think I found that system Tek told me aboutGǪ
Next time: What does that pilot have to say for himself for violently podding me? Will I ever manage to leave Geminate?

Anonymity - Yeah, anyone can ask for it, or to have certain bits excluded. I also offer it directly if someone has been particuarly revealing. Indeed, we have a very interesting and revealing conversation coming up - where the pilot has agreed for it to be posted with their name!
Solar - Nicolo, that is just called a challenge :)

As a player I live in 0.0.
However, only 2 out of my 9 characters are currently in 0.0.

That's a distinction that I hadn't considered before. For the purpose of this project I would consider you a 0.0 player, providing you use 0.0 to some degree (in fact, your opinions and reasons for being there could be vastly different from players who live there with their 'main' characters). PART 4
While I appreciate that 0.0 is a dark and dangerous place, I daresay that you will agree that podding a man while he is talking to you is the height of rudeness! Observe below the exact point in our proceedings when my flesh was torn asunder! http://eve-files.com/dl/250502
Never the less I was determined to interview the vagrant. Jiul was clearly shamed by his earlier behaviour and could not bring himself to face me so instead requested I send him a questionnaire which he could fill in and return like a meek little boy who had been caught stealing sweets. http://eve-files.com/dl/250503
I am especially interested in Rolling Thunder, I had been informed that they rented space from Raiden and I have seen many players talk negatively of GÇÿrentersGÇÖ and I wanted to see their response to this.
My time in 0.0 has taught me many skills which I utilised to rapidly break into Raiden (rolling thunder) space GÇô No bubbles would stop me now!
I have to say, the pilots of Rolling Thunder that I met were really nice guys who were happy to chat. Here is who I met:
http://eve-files.com/dl/250504
Draco Amatin GÇô A quiet miner: http://eve-files.com/dl/250506 He appears to be a man of simple tastes and enjoys the relatively safe life on null sec mining.
Duke Antares: http://eve-files.com/dl/250507 http://eve-files.com/dl/250508 http://eve-files.com/dl/250513
A pacifist 0.0 player? This is a rare specimen indeed but his quest to identify a wormhole back to Earth is admirable and I wish him well in this pursuit. It does appear that the harsh environment of 0.0 is capable of supporting a wide variety of play styles and it simply takes a bit of courage and determination to carve out your life.
Coburn Vor gives me some more information about the DRF v NC war but it appears that Rolling Thunder were not involved and I would need to head further north to get my answers. Coburn also provided some insight into being a GÇÿrenterGÇÖ: http://eve-files.com/dl/250511
Speaking to these seasoned veterans left me feeling ashamed and inadequate. I had to ask Coburn to teach me the facts of lifeGǪ GǪ about sovereignty of course! http://eve-files.com/dl/250512
Two pictures showing a Territorial Control Unit (plus a POCO in the foreground I believe) http://eve-files.com/dl/250509 http://eve-files.com/dl/250510
Now two pictures of one of Rolling ThunderGÇÖs POSGÇÖs http://eve-files.com/dl/250514 http://eve-files.com/dl/250515 I hope that was suitably educational for everyone.
Using my powers of persuasion I was able to negotiate a coveted photo opportunity with Coburn while he destroyed some evil NPC pirates. http://eve-files.com/dl/250516
Unfortunately our little rendezvous was cut short: http://eve-files.com/dl/250520
My first roam! I was overcome with excitement and was determined to get a picture of the assailants. I found one sitting at a gate, heedless of my safety I got rather snap happy. http://eve-files.com/dl/250517 http://eve-files.com/dl/250518
Naturally, this was the resultGǪ http://eve-files.com/dl/250519
0.0 is full of different people and this is what inspires me to continue my journey, a fear of death has no place in this world and as my mother always said to me, death is but an opportunity to die again.
Next time: I watch some space acrobatics. And I go on a little holiday The 0.0 Investigation - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=46555 In-game channel: EIES

PART 5
Waking up in a new clone can be disorientating, especially as my laptop takes several seconds to load. I found myself in my GÇÿhomeGÇÖ system once more but I was happy to trade 80,000 isk (clone and shuttle) for some exciting pictures of a true 0.0 pvpGÇÖer. To my surprise, I was contacted instantly on GÇÿarrivalGÇÖ in the system GÇô had I gained a stalker?
Fortunately he appeared to be a travelling acrobatics expert who was mastering his art in a new ship, I instantly wanted to photograph this incredible feat. http://eve-files.com/dl/250521
I do wonder at what point I will finally learn that screenshots do not capture movement particularly well. http://eve-files.com/dl/250522 http://eve-files.com/dl/250523 http://eve-files.com/dl/250524
He wasnGÇÖt succeeding anyway, but the pictures are nice.
Thanking the man for demonstrating his skill, I kindly advised him not to pursue a career as a GÇÿSpace arrowGÇÖ and headed back to the north GÇô I still had not met White Noise, Raiden or the Northern Coalition.
I found a friend in the form of Elyaine to talk to while I travelled north again, she was a low sec player who frequented 0.0 GÇô definitely a perspective worth learning about. The journey was becoming a little over familiar now and I resolved to not get podded again in the north. http://eve-files.com/dl/250563
During our conversation I had flown through the majority of White Noise space in Vale of the Silent and had found mostly empty systems or pilots who did not speak English. I would continue my search another time. We concluded our conversation as I overshot RaidenGÇÖs territory and landed in the heartland of the Northern Coalition that I had heard much about. http://eve-files.com/dl/250565
I decided that I had been working hard at this reporting and that I was due a short break so I began scouting out possible locations for a holiday. http://eve-files.com/dl/250567
As I worked my way back towards RaidenGÇÖs space I came across a mysterious group known as GÇ£Northern AssociatesGÇ¥ and crucially, a Raiden pilot. http://eve-files.com/dl/250566 http://eve-files.com/dl/250569
Those tendencies didnGÇÖt fail me: http://eve-files.com/dl/250574
The paranoia in 0.0 keeps surprising me, and that is surprising, I should expect to be surprised by now and to be met with suspicion (and surprise). But as my mother always said to me GÇ£you got told son, you got told.GÇ¥ So I left local with my tail between my legs but I wasnGÇÖt finished with Northern Associates, I would discover their secrets!
Meanwhile I was talking to Aulinas from Raiden who had brought a dirty friend along for a chat! http://eve-files.com/dl/250576 http://eve-files.com/dl/250577
Flicking through the holiday brochure led me to check out this station as a possible destination on account of the spas and annual reports of EVE conference. http://eve-files.com/dl/250578
In the end I chose this beautiful station (5,00.000 isk) situated in a lovely quadrant of the galaxy. IGÇÖll be honest, I heard you could get a full body massage from four voluptuous women (one Amarrian, Gallentean, Minmatarian and Caldarian) while watching a sensuous show of the best exotic dancers in EVE (200,000 isk) and I booked it instantly. http://eve-files.com/dl/250579
Here I am on my approach to the pleasure zone docking entrance: http://eve-files.com/dl/250580 http://eve-files.com/dl/250580 http://eve-files.com/dl/250581
After a relaxing bath and 3 course meal I decided to take a leisurely stroll around the station, and like any good adventurer I decided to climb as high as possible. http://eve-files.com/dl/250583 And admire the view. http://eve-files.com/dl/250582
Then you have to explore places youGÇÖre probably not meant to. http://eve-files.com/dl/250586 http://eve-files.com/dl/250587 http://eve-files.com/dl/250588 http://eve-files.com/dl/250589 http://eve-files.com/dl/250589
It was a truly stunning station (despite my low graphics settings). I docked again and invited those masseuses up to my CaptainGÇÖs Quarter (2,500,000 isk). The 0.0 Investigation - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=46555

I don't have a specific route planned, I just know who I want to visit so when I'm podded I just follow the autopilot to my ultimate destination whether it's the same route or not. I've met people on the fly back's so it's worth it in the end and I think it's important to take everything as it comes - which goes for 0.0 in general.
To answer your question more specifically, yeah, I pretty much end up in the same area that I was podded in, because I still wantto meet peole in the bit of space. The 0.0 Investigation - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=46555

Entertaining yes, but bleh!
I can handle the PVP, just like I can handle any scumbag in a trailerpark or ghetto, but just being around such people is still a downer, and the less people I meet in 0.0, being the "kind of people" they are, the better. This is why it's hard to hate cops sometimes, because they gotta go into these trailerparks and ghettos and deal with this loserfest.
And this is why the people who are most against being "forced" into 0.0 are the ones who have already been there.
"Don't compare RL scum to game scum" I expect to be told. But the underlying reasons behind the scummery still make for a kind of person whose mentality, energy, and interpretation of the world, be it a real one of a fake one, is not entertaining and leaves a feeling on my skin like a layer of bug entrails smeared on.
I'll keep the cloak on and keep using WHs to get around their bubble camps. Screw them.

PART 6
Leaving the luxurious hotel was a struggle but I finally undocked and continued onwards on my journey of discovery. I was hunting for White Noise pilots and searching the majority of systems in their southern territory. There are no screenshots for this as precisely nothing of interest happened.
Well, I tell a lie. I did find systems held by the highly secretive Northern Associates but as I failed to screenshot this we shall gloss over this detail.
I had decided that I would have to head to the very north of the universe to find a White Noise pilot and so turned my attention to the Northern Coalition. I had heard a lot about them in my travels and was eager to meet them.
But first, on my route north I re-entered a system I had not long ago being verbally ejected from and found the very same assailant still there. Except now I had discovered some of their systems and I was convinced this would give me the upper hand. http://eve-files.com/dl/250817
Instead we appear to have discussed my motivations. Then I discovered that I was talking to the most intense pilot I have ever met. http://eve-files.com/dl/250821
I wonder how many pilots out there are this invested in the game and whether they make more effective PVPGÇÖers due to their dedication; I imagine they are good fun on voice communications!
I found my new favourite station and instantly regretted my choice of holiday destination. I donGÇÖt know what it is, but it looks soGǪpurposeful http://eve-files.com/dl/250822
I also took a picture of another POS, showing all the heavy equipment that an alliance packs inside them. http://eve-files.com/dl/250823 And a heavily edited picture because I donGÇÖt know if the alliance in question would appreciate me posting such valuable intelligence as this http://eve-files.com/dl/250824
I somehow managed to leave Northern Coalition space, enter White NoisesGÇÖs and meet a couple of Rolling Thunder pilots GÇô Who continued the tradition of politeness and helpfulness. http://eve-files.com/dl/250825
Perhaps GÇ£a whileGÇ¥ means GÇ£a weekGÇ¥ in 0.0 slang. I shall have to remember this. Zero Conscience was willing to discuss the issue of renting in a bit more detail. http://eve-files.com/dl/250826 Then a little personal piece: http://eve-files.com/dl/250828
This is a short part becauseGǪ Next time: I meet quite possibly the most evil man in EVE and I feel really privileged to have been able to talk with him.

There are still several parts remaining to be posted in this chapter which I will be pushing out as fast as possible over the next 2 weeks, but for now I have been successfully podded (I got a picture) and returned to my home station so that I can strike out in a new direction.

I have a request, can you talk to those who do the industrial part of 0.0 with no care for pvp? I am legitimately curious to those cap builders and market seeders what htey get out of the 0.0 experience, whether its the dealing with larger alliances, the blockade running or purely making their internet wealth go up in leaps and bounds?

Unfortunately I am still waiting for permission to post part 7 from the interviewee. So I will continue the story and post it when I can
PART 8
The history and politics of EVE is one of the facets IGÇÖm most interested in discovering in this investigation, therefore the recent DRF vs NC war and its lasting consequences are something IGÇÖm keen to discover.
And at last I meet my first Northern Coalition pilot! http://eve-files.com/dl/250973
Short, sharp and to the point. With the personal stuff out of the way I move deftly on to demonstrating my complete ignorance of 0.0 politics http://eve-files.com/dl/250974 And the article linked: http://eve-files.com/dl/250976 http://eve-files.com/dl/250975
Now, a lot of people will be laughing at me for having absolutely no idea what IGÇÖm talking about, but let me explain. I read somewhere that Wildly Innapropriate. (who were an alliance) were merging with someone (turns out it was Goonswarm), and because everyone referred to them as WI. or WIDOT when I heard of NCDOT I instantly made a connection of Northern Coalition + Wildly inappropriate. Fortunately, my investigative skills prevented me from erring any longer and I finally understood the complexities of the situation GÇô Even though the conversation ended there and I found out nothing concrete
As SimPro had said, most of the alliance were out on business and I found the rest of their space deserted. Except for these guys, whose alliance name left me in no doubt that they werenGÇÖt meant to be thereGǪ http://eve-files.com/dl/250977
I found two of them sitting on a gate and decided that I had to get some pictures of them. http://eve-files.com/dl/250978 But somewhere between that picture and this one: http://eve-files.com/dl/250979 I got podded againGǪ I think I warped to a bubbled gate, got disorientated, got blown up and most importantly, failed to screenshot it!
I bought up a stock of shuttles, insuring my future as a shuttle wielding reporter. In the background you can see me berate my attacker. http://eve-files.com/dl/250980
I engaged him in conversation: http://eve-files.com/dl/250982
I had not expected to meet a Razor pilot, and had in fact not planned to meet their alliance yet as I had determined that Northern Coalition would be as far west as IGÇÖd venture for the time being. Here is the linked killmail: http://eve-files.com/dl/250981 Wait? Most expensive pod in EVE? I think I spend about 90,000 isk on the clone and shuttle each time.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250983 Turns out Giullare is a toughened veteran with strong opinions on the state of affairs in 0.0. I listened closely to his wisdom. I felt somewhat inadequate in his presence and felt compelled to reveal that I too had been around when the first titan was built. He ignored meGǪ
http://eve-files.com/dl/250984 Giullare raises an interesting point regarding alliance logistics, one which I make a note of to investigate further. I also begin to understand the political structure of the north (I think).
I finish up by getting a veterans perspective on two issues IGÇÖm keen to explore. http://eve-files.com/dl/250985
Next time: I prostitute myself for a story. I am invited to a ceremony!

I'm afraid that the part in question occured about 3 weeks ago - but it could be that you are indeed more evil than this pilot. I will let you decide (when I finally get the green light to post it). PART 9
IGÇÖm not really sure what the context for this conversation is, I think I may have been trying out new strategies for luring in pilots. http://eve-files.com/dl/251002 I thought 23isk was well worth itGǪ Everyone else does interviews for free!
It might be interesting to explore my exact methods of obtaining interviews at this juncture. As you know I aim to meet at least one pilot from every major 0.0 alliance and therefore fly wildly through their space in search of a pilot. If I land in a system with a pilot from an alliance I wish to speak to then I create 2 or 3 safe spots so that I can talk in local safely, greet them and introduce my project; more often than not this results in silence. When a pilot expresses any kind of inclination to talk to me (a simple GÇ£ummGÇ¥ will suffice) then I invite them to a conversation. If I land in a GÇÿhubGÇÖ for that alliance GÇô usually a system with a station GÇô then I engage the pilots in conversation in local and get trolled or harassed for a bit but I normally find that there is one pilot who is willing to talk. Alternatively, sending conversation invites to anyone who speaks in local tends to work eventually.
I had a short conversation with my friend Rancyin (who was attempting loop-the-loops previously) who I bump into almost every time IGÇÖm podded and then received this mysterious proposition: http://eve-files.com/dl/251006
This is Imperial Legion who I met right at the beginning of my quest, fortunately I was nearby as a result of my podding. I was so excited to see what the ceremony was all about that I forgot to get into a new shuttle!
This was my view as I reached the station: http://eve-files.com/dl/251007 Without the UI: http://eve-files.com/dl/251008 Aligning for warp: http://eve-files.com/dl/251009 Then podding me: http://eve-files.com/dl/251010
Oh well. I hadnGÇÖt seen capital ships before so it was really cool to be invited to see them. Unfortunately I warped in quite far from them and before I could get really close they warped off.
Meanwhile my in-game channel received its first ever visitors: http://eve-files.com/dl/251011 A player called GÇÿDark ThreatGÇÖ also joined us. We ended up having a conversation about the project before I headed back north for the last leg of this chapter (as in, I wonGÇÖt get podded again).
White Noise were the only alliance missing from my collection, I had previously nosed around their southern territory but found it mostly deserted and so I now needed to venture to the farthest north to see where they are hiding.
On my journey north I met several people, first off is GÇÿWind WendyGÇÖ who was involved in her own project. http://eve-files.com/dl/251019 http://eve-files.com/dl/251020
It is an interesting idea. IGÇÖm not sure how new alliances are traditionally formed, although I suspect it occurs when several corporations work together for a long time. So this approach of just inviting random people to a new alliance is certainly ambitious. I make a note to check up on Wind Wendy in the future.
Next time: I meet a capital pilot. I finally meet White Noise!

To be honest, I was in their space 3 weeks ago and I had no idea about the current state of affairs, coupled with the difficulty of finding a) A pilot who spoke English and b) A pilot who wasn't just smack talking constantly meant that I didn't really get into much depth with their pilots.
It was really good fun up there though - one of their pilots posted a killmail for my shutte earlier in the thread (missed my pod though). They have been the most smack heavy players I've met so far.
I decided, I'll tell you where I saw them for... 3 billion isk (shuttles in 00. are expensive) |

I really hope you get to go through all of 0.0 eventually. It is a vast place with all different kinds of people. I know you want to discover everyone you talk to, but an interview with some famous players would add a lot to your investigation. I would really like to see you interview The Mittani and Chribba. Also going to hi-sec and wormholes to ask players about what they think of 0.0 would be cool. I like that you have little to no null experience as it compliments your neutrality.

Seriously short part, I apologise. But I'm wiped out and the next part belongs on its own - It's White Noise time!
PART 10
So, IGÇÖm in the middle of my final run to the north to meet White Noise, on the way I met a few people from alliances that I had already visited. Today we will meet two more.
First off is Bratzo (AKA: Vlad Nitro). A Northern Coalition capital ship pilot. http://eve-files.com/dl/251117
Turns out the new NC are hardened combat pilots that fly into the face of danger against insurmountable oddsGǪ and prevail! Rather reminds me of myself and my adventure, no?
http://eve-files.com/dl/251118 Duty calls and who am I to stand in the way of noble conquest and explosions? Like my mother always said GÇ£an explosion is almost as a good as a sexplosionGÇ¥ GÇô I never did learn what she meantGǪ
Second up is some fresh meat! A new Raiden pilot. She and her friends offer some good old 0.0 wisdom: http://eve-files.com/dl/251119 But, as I say, everything tends to work out in the end and I get my interviewGǪ And find my first 0.0 (secret) carebear! http://eve-files.com/dl/251120
Finally I reach the utmost north, home to the infamously quiet and absent White Noise.
Next time: I get given the run around I seriously consider abandoning White Noise and failing one of my objectives

The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. Strictly speaking I have not heard back from the interviewee, but he did give approval to post the story during our interview and I do not believe there is anything too... incriminating revealed. Part 7 is here at last :)
Part 7
I have promised to introduce you to a pilot who is quite possibly the most evil man in the whole of EVE, alternately he may be a misunderstood hardworking soul or a big fat liar pants GÇô you decide! http://eve-files.com/dl/250933 A promising start for being evil: A perfectly tailored biography is essential for giving the right message.
So letGÇÖs find out about our Mr EVE Evil. http://eve-files.com/dl/250934
I am a sucker for famous people and their exciting stories so naturally I was ready to plunge head first into his tales of devious dealings; but he is also a self proclaimed troll GÇô perhaps I was about to be entangled in his web of deceit. Never the less I was intrigued and delved deeperGǪ http://eve-files.com/dl/250935
A heinous crime indeed! Accompanied with some good old fashioned EVE mail proof. A bona fide scammer was not someone I expected to meet on my travels, IGÇÖll admit it. I was excited.
Naturally as an experienced journalist I noticed that he had recently joined this corporation and was a member of Rolling Thunder GÇô Could I be a witness to a heist in action? http://eve-files.com/dl/250936
Interesting. Beneath the cold exterior lies the beating heart of morality that strains to be heard above the voices uttering GǣstealGǪstealGǪstealGǥ
I moved onto the more personal aspects of his game GÇô What makes the game for a man like this? http://eve-files.com/dl/250937 Interesting to see his perspective on things and the level of morality he brings into the game.
Now we really delve deep into the personal side. http://eve-files.com/dl/250938 I think this really shows the human side of the player behind the keyboard GÇô a truly fascinating insight.
http://eve-files.com/dl/250939 Is this man really a monster? I am unsureGǪ
Just for your interest, here is his full corporation history: http://eve-files.com/dl/250940 http://eve-files.com/dl/250941
Well. it was a really interesting conversation to have and a one in a million chance for me to happen upon such a person who is willing to share their story. I truly hope itGÇÖs been a good read for you.
Next time: I begin to get to the bottom of this NC vs DRF business. I get podded again!

Part 11
So, at long last I had reached the stronghold of White Noise (at this time I knew nothing of the war between them and GoonSwarm). I was feeling optimistic about finding a pilot to talk to until I was reminded of my first few days in 0.0: http://eve-files.com/dl/251220
Ok. YeahGǪ a good start! Accusations of spying are quite common for me, it is quite difficult to assuage such suspicions.
I decided that my best approach was to show my determination, honesty and an unflinching acceptance of the dangers of my task. http://eve-files.com/dl/251291
I was on to their game: bluster and trolling. I decided to play along and see what little gems of information fall out. To show my disregard for their threats I flew right up to their station and defiantly photograph it! http://eve-files.com/dl/251223
To further show my fearlessness we arranged to meet up so I could get some pictures of them blowing up some rats; but I maintained a healthy suspicion of their motives. I did not trust these vagabonds. http://eve-files.com/dl/251294 http://eve-files.com/dl/251295 http://eve-files.com/dl/251296 http://eve-files.com/dl/251297
Although I managed to obtain these wonderful pictures without being turned into space dust ApplejackGÇÖs companion felt it necessary to repeat the oft thrown insult of: GÇ£Spy!GÇ¥ That nagging feeling that they just wanted to blow me up was constant now and I couldnGÇÖt shake the suspicion that this was them merely playing with their food. http://eve-files.com/dl/251306
Luring me to a POS I wagered, to let their machines do the killing so their hands stayed clean or to lead me to some backwater moon where my corpse could float for months, alone.
The Mining Complex: http://eve-files.com/dl/251299 http://eve-files.com/dl/251300 http://eve-files.com/dl/251301 http://eve-files.com/dl/251302
I was then invited to a new and exciting location, where we grouped up for some GÇÿsmall gangGÇÖ shots; needless to say, my suspicions were aroused. http://eve-files.com/dl/251307
The planet: http://eve-files.com/dl/251303 Forming up: http://eve-files.com/dl/251308 Being blown up (inevitable, eh?): http://eve-files.com/dl/251305
The fact that I was in the middle of taking the screenshot when they fired probably cost me my ship and more infuriatingly, prevented me from getting a picture of it! At last, their true nature is observed: http://eve-files.com/dl/251309
WeGÇÖll just leave it there. Oddly they accuse me of being outsmarted; considering I was sat in a shuttle, 5km from them and taking a screenshot when they fired, the fact that I got away in my pod says more about them than me I think. That 10-man gang never arrived either.
I had been on the trail of White Noise for some time and had covered a lot of space in my search, IGÇÖll admit, I despaired at this point of ever getting a legitimate interview with them. I logged off and didnGÇÖt return for a few daysGǪ
Next Time: I head to NPC space to complete this chapter of the journey. I daringly complete the next part in a pod!

Part 12
So, we reach the end of this leg of the adventure; I logged back in after my somewhat demoralising encounter with two White Noise pilots with renewed determination to interview everyone. I plotted a course to NPC space in Venal (to find some pilots from 0.0 corporations instead of alliances) and trusted to my luck to meet a White Noise pilot en route.
The EVE Gods smiled upon me this day: http://eve-files.com/dl/251346
I just hoped that this would not be some elaborate troll attempt, for another failed attempt might just break me. http://eve-files.com/dl/251349
Success! A bona fide White Noise combat pilot who isnGÇÖt just trying to troll me. http://eve-files.com/dl/251349
It appears that IGÇÖm speaking to a leader of men, a noble general, a fleet commander: http://eve-files.com/dl/251350 http://eve-files.com/dl/251352
I canGÇÖt lie, IGÇÖm very happy to have successfully completed my objective of talking to a pilot from every alliance. I had arrived in Venal and docked at a Guristas station, I wanted to know what goes on in NPC space, so I asked: http://eve-files.com/dl/251353
Apparently this: http://eve-files.com/dl/251354
Naturally, if there is something that sounds like a good photo opportunity then IGÇÖll fly there instantly, because, as my mother always used to say GÇ£A photo lasts a life time but your pants can be washed afterwards.GÇ¥ Here is the ensuing conversation in local. http://eve-files.com/dl/251355
Poor guy, apparently camped in the system. So I warped to all the gates to find the viscous pirates; alas they were empty. http://eve-files.com/dl/251356
I found some people at the station however: http://eve-files.com/dl/251357
Nothing was really forthcoming from the locals on this day, so I logged off and had Christmas instead. I logged on 2 weeks later to this argument: http://eve-files.com/dl/251358
1v1 is serious business apparently? Eager to demonstrate my accumulated knowledge of 0.0 I weighed in on the subject, failing epically: http://eve-files.com/dl/251360
IGÇÖll just shut up now. NPC space appears to be the most smack filled place in null sec (notice that some of these pilots are White Noise), but at least I learnt something of value. I log off for the day, but I still need to find some independent corporations to talk to!
The next day I met a pilot who convinced me that White Noise must truly be 90% trolls (Knight Jedi excepted, of course): http://eve-files.com/dl/251361
Just in case you hadnGÇÖt worked it out, Soldur is in White Noise, and yes, I got podded. Fortunately I had pre-emptively moved my clone to the station. Surprise is one of many tools in a reporters repertoire. Here are pictures of the podding. http://eve-files.com/dl/251362 http://eve-files.com/dl/251363
Just for any interest Goon pilots (Feligast), the events recorded here took place on 3rd January; in case you were still wondering where their pilots were. (This information is old and probably useless, so I feel alright in an ethical sense for releasing it).
Now, for you astute readers, I wonder if you can guess which accusation is presently thrown at me? http://eve-files.com/dl/251364
My reporter senses were tingling, usually these bully mouthed fellows had a secret desire for someone to just listen to them and I provide a shoulder to cry on free of charge as well. http://eve-files.com/dl/251370 Score 1 for reporter senses? So, let us discover the true heart of a smack talker: http://eve-files.com/dl/251371
Not only have I met a griefer, but he is now camping the station for my 40k clone! Genuine disasters of this magnitude do not occur everyday and the readers support is vital at this juncture. In the meantime I decided to comfort myself with some delicious hate mail.
The forum thread showing why EVE is the game for him (tl;dr: EVE is a griefers haven) http://eve-files.com/dl/251372 http://eve-files.com/dl/251373
Unfortunately he had deleted all the hate main and then my laptop crashed. However, I decided that my time here was finished, I would return to base and plan my next move (independent corporations would have to wait for a probing). I utilised a handy feature I had heard of to move my clone to my corporation office thus avoiding the tiresome flight back (or being podded relentlessly by Soldur who was still camped outside). I then issued a challenge: http://eve-files.com/dl/251374
Ninevite, who I had previously met, took up the challenge to pod me: http://eve-fi... 0.0 Investigation I am flying around the depths of space interviewing pilots about their experiences. In-game channel: EIES |

Analysis
I think it is pertinent to look back on my adventure at this point, draw some conclusions, learn some lessons and improve my investigation.
Interviews conducted: 19 Times podded: 7 Not a bad ratio for a neutral in a shuttle, I think
I have also established my corporations Rules of Engagement: Pod And Do An Interview (PADAI)
I have learnt a lot about the people in 0.0 and how the whole business of empire building works and I can say with relative authority that there is no GÇÿone typeGÇÖ of pilot out here. It is also interesting that a lot of pilots are willing to do an interview if you persevere long enough. I lament my failure to provide coverage on current events (WN vs Goons) as pilots have not really discussed the present situation (and indeed refuse to) but I hope to rectify that in future. I want to continue to meet different types of pilots and maintain the diversity of my interviewees, which also includes meeting people with various roles within alliances.
LetGÇÖs look back at the map from when I started the adventure and compare it to now When I chose my first destination: http://eve-files.com/dl/251379
Large view (Present): http://eve-files.com/dl/251377
Focusing on my area of travel (Present): http://eve-files.com/dl/251378
A lot has changed indeed. White Noise now only hold the smaller section of territory that was desolate when I visited it, I wonder if it will now be full of life? GoonSwarm now cover an even larger area GÇô IGÇÖm glad I got out of there when I did.
Feedback
IGÇÖd like to get some feedback at this point, to help keep people interested and hopefully draw in new readers. IGÇÖm having a great time doing this and donGÇÖt want to have to stop. So please leave some comments!
What parts of the investigation are good and work well? What is not so good/doesnGÇÖt work? What would you like to see in the next part? Other comments?
