No takers? Surely I'm not the only one who hates switching ammo all the time

I like the dynamic of having to switch ammo because it takes time, and because a couple slips of the finger could make the difference in a fight. Plus, eve PVP is already click and shoot.
Lets not reduce the number of buttons/keystrokes we use or soon we'll have a button that says target and one that says FIRE! ~~~~~~~~~ Caldari. So easy Minmatar can do it |

I think this is the wrong attitude. The game interface should be as easy to use as possible, it shouldn't be hard to make the computer do what you want to do. It's never going to be simplified to the extent that you suggest, and anyone walking away from a fight feeling that they lost due to a misclick is a necessarily bad thing. The interface is there to accept your commands as readily as possible.
If you want a flavor-reason - pilots are hard-wired into their pods, and shouldn't be able to misclick.

I vote no .. coming in at a closer or longer range than your enemy has fitted ammo gives you an advantage and the upper hand every second counts and those seconds are useful

I am afraid that you are mistaking a few things. Eve is not about fast clicking, it is about a lot many things, tactics AND skill included. Fast clicking is not one of them. I was not all for this idea, but you guys convinced me it is BAD to have to reload manually. It is bad, BAD, not to say completely unrealistic, to have to click all 7 guns to reload them. Especially since ships in EVE have crews and the pilot controls everything neurally wired to it. Reflexes, yes, but fastclicking is absolutely NOT the way to give people advantages.
