Btwàwhere did we get ôblobö from anyway?
Here is a radical suggestion to address the blob warfare. It revolves around mainly Electronic Warfare, but also gives Minmatar added utility as their ships are faster than most in Eve (which as most PVPers knowàin a huge fleet is worthless, nanos aside).
Right now EW modules are single target weapons. Why not changing them to ôbubbleö type weapons that you can fire as a weapon (not deploy or drop near your ship). There could be different EW devices in the same class for range, duration, strength, and so forth. Plus, it would make ships have to maneuver to avoid EW effectsàso faster ships would actually be strengthened some. The ROF of EW would have to be longà15 to 30 seconds I assume.
ECCM could also give area effects depending on how close you are to the ship that has the ECCM module active.
  Example:
A Rook has 3 ECM modules and 2 Sensor Dampener modules. In combat, he fires all 5 at 3 different ships close together. The enemy ships are all caught in the area of effect, with some resisting the jamming rolls, and some not. The Sensor Dampener bubbles are especially effective. The enemy FC tells his fleet to go into a more spread formation so the fleet is not so vulnerable to EW attacks.
  Thoughts?

Might be best as seperate from the current things, area of effect but less overall strength...

call them "remote ECM bursts" or somesuch.

It would be nice to have something built into an EW drone. Extra high speed and capable of EW'ing a large volume. Say a bubble of about 30km diameter.COupled with the ability to withstand very high damage. And for giggles, lets throw in the ability to change EW mode type either as a single change or as a rotation of selected EW types. And I'd like that drone to be specific to covert-ops ships or stealth bombers. And as an added feature, the drone has cloaking ability.

I think EW/weapons fire should have a cone. This would make large gangs have to watch out for friendly fire. IE a ship drifting infront of you could be hit by your fire or EW.

I am just guessing, but I figure a 'cone effect' would be hard to calculate in a large battle. CCP already has done the bubble code...so its at leasta head start there. And these 'bubbles' dont have to be visually displayed. Or if they are displayed, they would need different effect and color signifiers to let the enemy know whats going on.
My basic premise is you fire ECM/Disrupt/Web/Scramble like you would a missile...and when it hits the 'target ship' it forms whatever EW bubble its rated at. However it doesnt follow the ship, it just 'plants' where that ship is at the point of impact, then applies the EW effect to the area it is rated for.

Now if only I wouldn't lag like there's no tomorrow during fleet operations, I'd love the idea. But as it stands now it's like rock, paper, scizzors. I can jack in maybe one or two commands (direction to fly in, modules to activate) and I'll be stuck with it, maybe being able to change it with a minute delay which in the precise case of manoevring is wayyy too late.
