If I'm ratting in Amarr space, what guns and what lenses should I put on a punisher?

i use two medium pulses and one dual pulse, all with multifreq crystals,
very short optimal but gets you max damage, with this set an AB is a must, |

Edited by: Ashira Twilight on 28/01/2007 23:22:04 For ratting I would personally go with beams. Fit the guns first, the best version of Medium Beam Lasers you can afford/use.
The beams will allow you to use higher damage crystals(multifrequency, ideally) and give you an optimal range that will allow you to start firing on the rats as soon as you enter a belt. You'll want to have multifrequency(or gamma for the reduced cap usage, the damage is pretty close), microwave, and radio. You can also buy three of EVERY crystal and see what kind of ranges you get with the different crystals. After you rat for a while, you'll learn the range that MOST of the rats will orbit you at.
Something along the lines of...
3x Medium Beam Laser I
1mn Afterburner I (or Microwarp Drive if you have the skills/powergrid) Tracking Computer I (or a Cap Recharger if your cap skills are lacking)
Small Armor Repairer I (probably the most important module on your ship, upgrade soon) Capacitor Power Relay I Micro Auxilliary Power Core I (if you don't have the skills for this, you may want to think of using pulses instead) Heat Sink I (you'll really want this, with the punisher lacking a damage/rat of fire bonus)
Replace with better named modules where your wallet permits. You can also try Medium Pulse Laser I, but only if you can fit/use a mwd. You'll typically have to use higher range crystals because of the time it takes to get into range with the lower range crystals.
And about the other lasers... Dual light pulses have alright damage, and much better fitting requirements, so they aren't a bad choice. From my experience with Dual Light Beams, I just really don't like them. They don't hit very hard, and the range isn't all that nice either.

Right now I got 3x Med Pulse lasers with ultraviolet, AB, f-b10 nom cap recharge, T2 small rep, 2x rat specific hardeners and a cap power relay.
Maybe I should swap out the power relay for a heat sink?

When used to rat in high sec in a punisher i used to use the following:
Hi: Duel Light Pulse Laser Duel Light Pulse Laser Duel Light Pulse Laser [Nosferatu if able] Med: Afterburner Capacitor Recharger
Low: Small Armour Repairer Thermic membrane Thermic membrane Heat Sink
This works very well for ratting, with the nos running I had enough cap fr all modules to be active at once. If you ever wanted to pvp in the punisher, as it is probably the bes t1 frig for solo pvp, all you would have to do is swap the cap recharger for a warp scrambler, the guns to projectile turrets, swap the hs for a plate/ gyrostabiliser and go hunt a few low sec amarr ratters to your heats content. Have fun

Im presuming your skills are NOT top grade so a nice non heavy cap dependant setup would probably be wise lol.
High's 3 Medium Modulated Energy Pulse I 1 Small Nosferatu
Mid's 1 Coldgas Arcjet Thrusters 1 Cap Recharger
Low's 1 Small 'accom' Armour rep 1 thermic plating 2 Capacitor Power Relay
Should keep running allmost indefinatly, and no need for a web you can track pretty much anything. And still has an allmost identical DPS to the 3 Dual Pulse / Heat sink setup. You can fit a heatsink if you want but for lowend rats it's not really needed.

Edited by: Jalec Creed on 29/01/2007 09:18:01 Try the Bleeder setup. I used to rat in my old punisher and that setup did well.
3x pulse laser (or beam if you prefer) 1x Small Nos
1x named AB 1x Web
1x SAR II 3x Cap relay or 2x cap relay + 1x EANM.
Fun.
EDIT: Use multi freqs for the rats who get up real close and Microwaves for those more distant. -----------------------------------

This setup is probably the best one to go for except I'd drop one thermal hardener for a tracking enhancer (fitting allowing) but that's more a personal preference for having the extra bit of range and tracking over a better thermal tank. For ammo it's best to have a microwave for long range and multi frequency for close range.
The dual light beams are the better choice of guns as they have the best combination of range, tracking, damage and fitting requirements for what you're doing.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it.
