Ok I see more posts beating these dead horses to death then anything. However there is one consistant factor in all of these that people fail to realize. They Do not happen to everyone on a regular basis. I actually do know of some people who have had no more then 1 ctd in an entire month and one person who has not had one in 3 months. I myself have only had 2 the entire time i've played EVE.
To elaborate what i'm talking about here lets put these problems in perspective.
CTD- I gurantee you 9 times out of 10 the CTD is your computers fault. Now before you say oh i have a great computer for gamming wait and listen. Believe it or not all PC's are NOT compatiable to ALL software, omg i can't believe that could be true. Furthermore Not all video drivers work with all games. Some of my games work better with this vidoe driver others with that. Some wont work at all with one set of drivers while they will work flawlessly with others. Point is minus the exploits and known bugs most ctd's have to do with you taking the time to optimize your system to use EVE. Before you don't believe me I had already talked to one such person and gave them the Nvidia drivers i was using and like magic no more problems.
Lag- Believe it or not once again this many times can also be your computers fault, your isp's fault, a bad routers fault, and yes on occasion im sure CCP has had lag issues. Needless to say though People with good isps a good computer and little router problems tend not to have much lag in this game. Most people who say lag is terrible in EVE say lag is bad in every game because their setup flat out sucks. I remember playing games like diablo/starcraft/warcarft/nascarracing/c&c. All those games you'd get somone in your server with crapy 56k or a junk cable provider going oh man thse programers suck the lag is so bad. Yet they were the only one's with the problem. Now CCP does have a few issues on their end to work out yes, but the lag issues from their side have gotten better and any bad lag is generally client side more so then there side. Personally i have good internet jumping into a system with 40 ships camping the jump in with drones the worst it's ever been is 30 seconds to load the screen and i never got shot once.
Bugs- First off they can only be fixed if you report them. If you don't report a bug you find then complain about it then you are doing yourself no good. Also this is a game and like ALL yes ALL games it's going to have some bugs. Considering this is CCP's first game EVER i'm incredibly surprised it's as bug free as it is. Also CCP has been hot fixing bugs left and right with the last 2 client side patch's. not to mention more are do soon with castors realease.
The final beef i have is people who say there is no content- OMG could you be any less unaware of the world around you??? I see alliances made and broken every day i see huge wars breaking out across the galaxy. There are pirates and anti-pirates fighting in almost every region where 0.0 boarders empire space. We have scams and scandels we have thieves we have it all people. On top of all that we have a spoon fed storyling which the purpose of is mostly just for a way to rp new physical content into the game like tech 2. So if you think there is no content for you then it's only because your sitting in a noob corp in 1.0 space minning scordite instead of getting out into the universe. Join a corporation and move out to the edge's of empire space and you'll have all the content you'll need. Yeah it's great having that battleship now do something with it. With No risk there is no reward, so if you hide all day and avoid risk then there may indeed be no content for you.
Join a corp make some freinds and enjoy EVE, also as a HUGE tip dont buy what you cant afford to replace and you will have way less headaches. Just like the real world in EVE easy come easy go. You wont see me driving a 500 thousand dollar car because i KNOW it'd get stolen and then i'd have no car. Use some common sense take things with a grain of salt roleplay in game and realize others are as well. I gurantee if you do that you'll have fun.

Been there... done that...
Sorry, did not make the game more fun for me, It made it worse...
Being in a 30 something member corp only to see 3 or 4 of them logged on when I'm on was quite annoying...
This game needs a big boost, CCP has a lot more riding on this next patch than they may realize.

Dude please......If 9 out of 10 CTD's are ppl's computers fault then everyone who plays eve has a sh1tty computer. And dont even go there with the lag issue. We all know why that happens. Not enough nodes for certain systems and regions and an overload with the highway system.
Hence Yulai going down every weekend.
Bugs: CCP dont care about most of the bugs that are in game. If it doesnt directly affect gaming then they really dont care. We have some of the same bugs that we had in beta.
I agree with you on the peeps who dont have an imagination. I think they are *****ing because they dont have a miner 5 yet etc. etc.

Edited by: Soolin on 08/12/2003 20:15:08 I've been playing EVE since two weeks after it went live... I've installed the game on three different PC's all with different specs, I've had TWO CDT's (node disconnections not included) in 6 months and I play a LOT. I run two accounts from the same PC at the same time and have NO PROBLEMS what so ever - the game runs smooth and is extremely reliable. I did have a problem at first running two accounts (the game was very laggy and unplayable) but I soon resolved that by upgrading my GFX card.
I understand that alot of people suffer technical problems with this game - but I agree with you Zarthan, the vast majority of these problems do not stem from EVE.
EDIT: For the record I run EVE on the following PC:
Pentium 4 2.8GHz 1GB DDR RAM 128MB Geforce 5600 GFX card. On board sound card. Broadband connection.

i have a ****ty computer and i dont suffer from ctd's...its as he said: its the SETUP that counts, not the computer or the hardware itself.
for the record: PIII 650 512 mb sdram geforce II
sure, its laggy when there are lots of ships around but its still fun :) ...new sig coming up Ravenal - Fate is what you make of it. |
