I've heard many say that the Drake's passive tank can handle level 4's pretty well, but that the DPS just isn't there to do level 4's effectively.
I have a second account, and I can fly two ships pretty effectively with 2 monitors, so I was thinking I could just train up a decent DPS ship on the other account and 'duo' level 4's that way, along with the drake.
Benefits: Don't have to spend 1B fitting out a CNR or something to run level 4's.
Drawbacks: A little more work?
Anyone recommend a good DPS tag-along, that won't get insta-popped if it grabs aggro?

i run lvl4's in the drake and the tank holds well, i use everything t2 except for an ab and shield power units. I don't have any problem taking down bs's but it does take anywhere from 17-30 volley's using t1 ammo. Oh and stay away from worlds collide and another particularly hard one. All others should be cake but take a while.

I would think some sort of blaster boat would be good to run with it.

"Stay away from worlds collide" ? The Drake can passive tank a full room aggro from the guristas base with T1 hardners, and can throw out enough DPS to make a difference fast enough.
I run L4s solo in a Drake myself. Current setup has ~230 DPS with standard Scourge Heavy (1 BCU, T2 launchers), 3 named T1 hardners and a 152 shield/sec peak recharge... I ran several before my "T2 launcher" upgrade (was using XRs not arbies), that was a 180 DPS, 166 shield/second setup. Some missions however require much more DPS output in order to be manageable
What you SHOULD stay away from in a solo Drake is Enemies Abound 5/5, where you pretty much absolutely HAVE to have a decent DPS output or be completely overwhelmed. ___
Standard torpedo raven with "solo mission" fitings should work just fine as a second ship.
I'm saying to use solo run fitings because "reinforcement" NPCs seem to aggro at random, so a paper-thin tank on a huge damage-dealing boat would probably mean a Raven loss in some missions. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Raven
highs: 6x torps 2x tractorbeam
mids: 2x web / 2x target painters / sensor booster / afterburner
lows: 5x BCU
if it's not gonna take any damage you might as well load it out for full dishing :)

I run L4's with a raven and a drake. I've tried with 2 drakes, but the dps still isn't there, nor the range required to passify enemy fire before the drake's tank starts to fail. It's all t2 mods for tanking, but it still cant hold up in the harder l4's by itself. I have found that the raven still is the better main, and tank, but that either a drake to supplement it's dps and whack out frigs/cruisers quickly), or a dominix to transfer shields works best. I've been using the domi more often lately, as the transfers seem to keep the raven alive on it's own, and i rarely need to boost. The domi also has room for sentry drones, which i like very much too. |

Geddon.
No ammo, big drone bay and dirt cheap if something goes wrong. Also 5 heavy shield bots. But if you get lots of missions vs guristas/angels, you might consider thron.
Missile boats aren't really good gankers for missions because you don't do insta-damage. Maybe torp raven with painters but... *snip* - Signature removed, email us to know why. -Ivan K

I do the exactae same thing. Raven DPS and a Domi with large shield and energy transfer with sentry drones. Lvl 4 missions just fly by.

I've not tried it but I'd be worried about using large shield extenders on a Drake in L4s since the sig radius penalty will have you taking the same damage as a battleship. I don't know how good you can make your passive tank without them.

300-450 DPS solo tanked vs mission-specific damage with barely above-average skills and basic gnome implants 800-1200 DPS solo tanked vs mission-specific damage with good skills, T2 modules and the 5% gnome implants 1200-1800 DPS tanked vs mission-specific damage with maxed out everything and in a gang with a siege mindlinked leader (running resist link doesn't improve much the tanking as you already have at least double hardening vs primary damage)
Even higher with faction/officer fitings.
That's how "good" its passive tank is :) _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |
