Its kinda simple:
When a Ship dies, it should drop a variable percentage of the minerals "inherant in it" (ie required to produce it) along with its loot. Somewhere between 20% and 70% would work. Loot that is "lost" (the 50% that doesnt drop), should likewise drop between 20 and 70% of the minerals requiered to make them.
All these dropped minerals, + the loot should appear in space next to the pod in a CAN that takes a LOT of destroying (not the normal container!) . It is ridiculous at the moment that 'wreckage' that survives the explosion of a ship is destroyed entirely by a single torpedo.
To balance this "gain" from killing a ship, Insurance should be even more expensive.
In a small move you will have
a) encouraged people to PvP
b) made piracy a more viable career WITHOUT hurting peoples chance of escape
c) reduced the current problem of insane mineral shortage
d) allow people to "just PvP" as opposed to PvPing when they can get time off from their hectic mining schedule.
Thought would need to be given to cargo space etc: eg minerals "inherant" in the armor of the ship(which was blasted away) (ie: Trit and Pyr) should drop less, neatly solving the problem of cargo space for them.

thinking about it, a lower percent might work better. Say 20-40% or so

An idea about salvaging ship wrecks has been knocking about for ages... it should be implemented. Specialist salvaging skills, ships, drones and equipment. Would be nice. -------------------------------------------- Dead

I like the idea.
I also think that no modules should be destroyed when ship explodes , to make pvp more profitable.
Disclaimer:
Im not pirate, nor have i profited much ever from pvp .I just love pvp ,and would like to see more of it

Question:
What happens with a super efficient and powerful ship engine blows up?
Answers: A) The ship isn't really effected, and everything on the ship and the ship itself is realitively unharmed, and just the pilot dies.
B) A huge explosion, where most of the ship (around 99%) should be atomized and sent screaming at astronomical speeds through space in all directions.
C) What happens now, the ship goes boom, but by a miracle, some of the moduals and the cargo survive the explosion and sit in space, not even moving! --------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Filve Tantiss on 09/12/2003 11:45:30 It is a nice idea, but it would simply not work, because people will get max insurance and then let themselves podded, so they can make a profit from the minerals and the insurance.
Personlly i would like that to work though , maybe the ships can just drop thy zyd and/or mega

one thing that would be cool is o beable to target points on the ship like propulsion and make them unable to move so you could just force them to leave the ship and take it from them... or just shoot away there weapons so theyl just sit there and do nothing

I am inclined to think that there is no mineral shortage problem.
It is a matter of price/effort. When demand is high enough and supply is low enough, the price will raise. In this case mega will flow in with a bit of a delay as people decide it is worth the effort to reap the rewards - when price is high enough. If people will not want to pay for the increased price of the ships n'stuff then manufacturers will not pay more for mega and the price will not raise as much. But that in turn means flying smaller ships. So there is a scale and it balances itself out. As long as there are asteroids with mega out there it is just the matter of price/effort. That is the way it works now that the giant can issue was fixed. *Beats herself for not taking advantage of it in time*
Other than that, I don't know and thus I don't comment.

OMG what are you talking about no shortage? How long have you been playing? Have you NOT seen all those lil roids in belts? Roids USE to refresh on a regular basis.
Not to mention you just answered your own question. You stated that high demand and low supply, yea I repeat "low supply" is the cause of whatever you were talking about. If you dont know what is causing the "low supply" see above paragraph. Believe me, if Bistot was refreshing at its normal rate, there would be no shortage as there would be LOADS of people out there mining it.

Are you freaking insane or what ? What you want next ? Remove the self-destruct button from the chioces an almost dead pilot can make to keep some criminal-pirate from taking profit from the ship-kill ? Get a grip ! Ship insurance is way too high now ! And you want to make it higher still ? IDIOT !

Cheer up, Percy, I am not taking stabs at you. :)
What I was saying is, that as long as there is megacyte to be mined in Eve the shortage is a matter of definition. Price raises, people can haul it back further away. Price raises and demand for things requiring a lot of mega comes down. Demand lowers. Price lowers. Less mega to market. Price raises. See? OMG? ;)
I am aware of the babyroid problem. I wouldn't mind it fixed, of course. I just don't think that there is a mega shortage. These are two different things, although babyroid problem of course raises the effort needed to get mega. Babyroid problem is just one variable in the equation, not the beginning and end of it. And that really does not depend on how long I have played, I might add.

Please don't post threads with the title 'devs must read'. There's plenty of things that we'd like them to read, but eventually the descision is theirs.
This thread is also more suited to the ideas forum, so at some point soon I'll probably move it there.

Nice idea in principle
But we already have people complaining that insurance pays out far too much to those sad enough to destroy their Scorpion for a profit. Adding this extra mineral payout would only increase this problem.
I do still like the idea though, perhaps if it had to be mined, and gradually expired on it's own. ----------------------------------------------- IÆm not schizophrenic... ThatÆs my alt

Well, utilizing your silly suggestion, they really will have no reason to go to 0.0.
