for the love of some amarrian deity move the friggen forums off TQ or what ever it is that requires the forums to access TQ's db everytime you login or post. Its getting really anoyying that the forums go everytime TQ craps out bigtime. I can't think of a single other game that has the forums requiring access to the gameserver.

It is also a technological decision.
If you have the forums in a different database you would have to do the following things:
- Keep records of duplicate entry's (you character name, password, alliance / corp)
- Check if information is updated (new corp, player image changed, player corp / alliance changed)
Maybe ccp decided they do not want duplicate entry's and so decided to keep everything in one environment.
Possibly they have the part containing topic information in a different database anyway connected to the TQ database.
BTW i have seen downtimes where forums where doing fine allright.
Maybe it is more an issue with massive ammounts of people rushing to the forums when something happens or the SQL service down.
In that case no matter if it is pulled from TQ database if the sql service provider as it runs in a cluster dies everything goes with it anyway, unless you want to have the forums on 1 database server which would severaly down it's performance.

good to hear there are options in case the forums or eve DB goes the way of the wooly mammoths at any point

Nice to see that you are thinking about this change.
I wonder who designed it to share like that in the frist place  perhaps way back then there wasnt much stress on the servers :)

As the forums don't alter the game databse, why not just let them use a live replicated DB on a different server?
