As we see the number of scam victims increase almost daily, it becomes more important for corporations to do background checks wherever and whenever possible on new recruits. Now that we have a great search tool for the forums, I urge anyone who has ever been scammed by someone else to post their story here.
When we admit new members, we will make it a point to check the forums for their names. If people have posted a scam story involving that person, we can do more research and make an informed decision if we want the recruit or not. I would urge everyone to do the same.
Again, if you have been scammed, post your story on the forums. It doesnĘt have to be attached to this message, just get it out there so we can use the search tool to find the names. Thank you.

I've got a scam....
They scamed all of eve. They made up this massive story about missing blueprints then wined about it for days and days and even tried to get the GM's and the rest of the forums to agree with them. After like 3 weeks or so of that crap the truth finally came out - it was a scam.
Just think what all that time they stole from the GM's and devs that could have been used to help improve this game or help other - real - issues out.
this one is right up their in the top 3 scams of all time if you ask me, and probally number 1. I'm sure most of you can remeber what I'm talking about.

Heff said: Would be a good post if you had the facts correct. Until you know what really happened, you're doomed to remain with the disadvantaged.
Heff, please give us a break with the "what really happened" hogwash. We all know what really happened, and every time someone calls you on it you talk about the "facts" and "what really went down" yet never offer such facts or details. If you have them, why not simply clear your name by setting the record straight? Could it be because the record is already straight? We all know you lied about who had access to your BPs. We know you let that lie snowball into a full-scale investigation by Polaris and GMs into who was the culprit and even possible bugs and exploits which might have been involved. We also know it was all a facade aimed at getting back the blueprints which you lost fairly as so many others have. What else is there to know?
How about not being such a squrriel about it; admit you tried to lie your way into being reimbursed, and accept the fact that you were caught. People will get over it eventually, but just quit trying to make it sound like there's some super-secret information that we all don't know about which somehow clears you of all fault and wrongdoing. It's infantile and embarassing.
That said, I agree with your idea. Use the forums as a means to report scammers, and the search tool as a background checker.

Just logged on to discuss it with you personally. You were not in game. Contact me if you really want to know. Unless you really want to make the time to find out, don't waste my time.
Obviously the last time I try to toss up a creative idea. People can't help but sling mud. Sorry I opened my mouth.

Yoikes man... I'm sorry dude. I agree with the "background" checks idea but seriously you lost ALL credabilty with the community some time ago. No-one actually cares what happened anymore just that you were caught. Whether it's true or not, it's the PERCEPTION of fraud that has caused the damage not the actual crime.
I'm with Veruna on this I'm afraid.

Oh come on NeoMorph, it's so much easier if you come out of the closet and admit you're a fanboi. You'll feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Currently i use an extensive database of player/corp/alliance websites to check up on corps and individuals that apply with me. Posting there generally tells me if the player/corp is ok or not.
In the case of new players this does pose a problem, as they are generally not known yet. In those cases i tend to check their noobness by asking some Eve-knowledge questions in the first few days they are a member. In general their answers can tell me if they are noob or not. If they look to me like a corp-spy alt, i just kick 'em out.
