Just wanted to get some advice on which strategic cruiser and what fittings/subsystems would work best for a low-sec/null-sec explorer. Something that can both probe sites out and complete them. Also, something that can survive gatecamps.
From what I've read, most people recommend the Tengu.
Also, what level sites can I reasonably expect to complete in a Tengu? 8/10? or higher? |

T3 cruisers are indeed best in my experience. I use a Loki. Some prefer the Tengu. They all offer covert and scanning subs. |

Tengu is the de-facto T3 for exploring, though all 4 work fine if you fly them right. As to how to fit them and what stuff you can take on, it kinda depends on how you fit them. If you're flying a cloaky-nullified T3 you're going to be much more limited in the sites you can run compared to one with Accel Ejection Bay and a more combat-oriented nav sub.
So, what are your requirements in a ship, where are you trying to fly it (that makes a big difference), how confident are you in your ability to get around 0.0 safely, and are you planning on docking up to change to combat fits once you find sites? |

I was thinking of staying in one region, most likely Guristas space (so Venal). With covert cloak, I'm pretty confident in getting around 0.0 safely. I'm not really planning on docking up, other than when I run out of ammo or need to drop off loot. I would focus on combat sites versus archeology or the other ones which would take up additional high slots. I was hoping I wouldn't need to dock up to change to combat fits, so exploration + combat in one ship with the understanding that I'll probably sacrifice some DPS. |

If you are fitting a cloak and a nullifier - then you will be a big gimp for all combat including PVE.
Any site you could manage would be a total waste of time. Wherever You Went - Here You Are |
