Edited by: Barashi Nugan on 01/02/2007 09:12:38 For the love of god, PLEASE at least make an attempt to settle a ransom of some poor smuck you've gatecamped.
If the guy is in a low-level Indy ship and is only carrying a few crappy-low end items, then you could very well make much more money off the situation than ganking him and running off with 100k worth of loot.
To the guy in Ham at around 2:45 AM Central Time, I would have paid you 100x more than what you looted from my pathetic ship, had you simply asked instead of taking me out in 5 seconds.
...
That is all. Thank you.

Or you might have been carrying billions in T2 BPOs and got away if he stalled even a moment. I think that's the scenario most of these guys are working from.

In the past i've killed numerous under a month old players with hold full of Vitok. If I had ransomed them I would probably have asked for around 5mill given their age....
Pop them open and stand to gain 100mill ? or take 5. I was allways more of a gambler myself.

Barashi, you can't teach people who gate camp to listen to reason. They will put forward any number of reasons why they blew you up and didn't accept a ransom from Oh I didn't hear you to if you ask for ransom you must be carrying phat lewt, or simply stfu noob and explode.... yes I got that one once.... and will pod for many of hte same reasons.
On the fun side though it is possible to trap the gate campers by using a disposable cruiser with a good tank to keep the sad campers busy while you come in the other gate and blow the air out of them. Gate camp loot ftw.

Don't most gatecampers carry a scanner to probe the ship before ganking them? And if you've warp-scrammed someone to hell and back, and they're in a low-level Iteron III, why the heck would you think they were going anywhere? I was jammed about 3 seconds after uncloaking.
I'm not really angry about it, just ticked at the situation. I know it's part of the game, and I accept that, just trying to find some kind of reasoning here...but maybe that's the problem.
The strange thing is he responded to my request to stop and talk, but only about 3 seconds before he popped me, lol. Seems like he would have accepted ransom if I had the chance to actually offer it.
As I said, it wasn't the items so much as the time I had spent running around to get them. I'm still a rookie and decided to buy all the things I needed based off of how many hops they were from the Ham area...which then made me jump 40+ jumps all over the place to pick them up. I've learned now that I should just head to a trading "hub" so I don't have to run through 20 lowsec places.
Anyways, to all the pirates out there: If you see Barashi Nugan bobbing around, please know what he's NOT carrying anything too special, and would most likely pay a ransom as opposed to losing 6 hours of work.
Thanks. ;)

OK, here we go....
I have well over a billion in the wallet. A neutral warps in in a nice BS, all alone. Maybe he might give me 50 million isk... which would have to be split amongst us 0.0 pilots... so we get maybe 10-5 million isk each. We might as well hit a few belts and make that much and return after a few minutes.
Kill the BS! And have your killboard ratings improve a few points! \o/

Honestly? No. Why waste the slot, when there is little enough space for your tank/tackle already. And honestly, there is no need for a cargo scanner, because the camping pirates are going to blow everything up that comes through that gate. Gate camps are all about loot. The only ship you might ransom is a Freighter, because they don't drop loot.
If you are old enough to have implants worth anything, you might (if your pod doesn't get away) be offered a ransom after you've been popped.
And if you've warp-scrammed someone to hell and back, and they're in a low-level Iteron III, why the heck would you think they were going anywhere? I was jammed about 3 seconds after uncloaking.
See above. Pirates camping a gate are only interested in the loot in your hauler, and plenty of good stuff can be carried in an Iteron III. Also, why would they wait around after they've scramed you. Every minute you're alive is a minute another hauler can jump in, and get away (possibly) because they all have their points on you.

No. Take the risk or avoid it.
Though I personally hate gatecamps (its like fishing - and I HATE fishing), there would be nothing to complain if you'd sit in your warm high sec where every gate is guarded by concord.
It has something to do with wearing womens clothes also, if I'm correct.

You can debate the issue till a new worm hole appears. It is really quite simple mechanics. Pirates try to make you go boom, you try to stick your tongue at them as your warp to o to the next gank free gate

Unless there is a large gang with at least 5 webs, preferably more, no one is going to waste time trying to ransom you because you will be able to get on the gate and jump before a ransom deal finishes. And in a gang large enough to have 5 webs on you, they're likely doing enough damage that by the time 'call it off I'm ransoming' is heard its already too late. ---
