Not sure if this is a bug or how it's supposed to be, but I managed to fit rigs to my ship that put it over maximum power grid today so couldn't undock without changing my setup.
I'm hoping I can save my ship from being semi ruined with skill training but thought I should warn others. I got no warning about not having enough CPU or Power, just the can't remove them warning... so I am stuck with them :(

Yea you did, read the rig description. It probably increased the Power Grid Usage of something.
Signature removed as it fails to comply with the rules. -Ivan K Thats all well and good, but better question, what did you remove? I had no sig... |

If I understand you correctly then you fitted rigs that reduced your power grid to a point when your active modules use upp more power than your ship now has?
If that is the cese then you will have to refit your ship, there is nothing for it.
If you however have managed to rig your ship so that it has become completely unplayable (ex neg power) then I sugest you petition it.
If nither of the above is true then I would sugest you remove all the modules and put them back in, this may clear upp a problem.
Whatever you do do NOT repackage the ship untill you have exausted all options as this will destroy all your rigs.

The ship was rigged so that what was fitted was not possible so I couldn't un-dock. It was fixed by offlining mods etc. Seems pretty stupid to me that it works this way but if it's not a bug fine... just wanted to warn people. I read the warning as a Post modification warning not a general warning; try sticking a t2 cloak in your bs or a large tach beam laser in a bestower and you will see why. I wouldn't expect a tach to fit in a bestower but if it let me fit it I wouldn't expect to be unable to use the ship afterwards with the wep offline, jammed in there forever!
Maby I mis read it or didn't read hard enough but this is a game, not a declaration of war.
As it happens it was fixed with skill training but it shouldn't have been possible in the first place.

I think what he's getting at is it should have warned him that his ship wouldn't be flyable.
If you try to put a cruise launcher on a frig the powergrid shows up red before you ever plop it on your ship. Be nice if rigs did the same thing, so you'd know putting it on would mess up your fit.

Well, I bet this means you fitted a energy weapon rig. Train Energy Weapons Rigging to decrease the drawback. Also, Advanced Weapons Upgrades could also save you.

I'm really not getting the point of this. A rig is not a module. You "theoretically" put it on an empty ship and afterwards see what you can fit (or you have calculated beforehands). There is no point in rigging an already fitted ships as chances are that either the reuirements or the general configuration will have changed so you will need a different fit anyway...
Refit.

Exactly. Rigs are a permanent fixture to your ship, so you should build from the ground up. Base Ship Stats ---> Rigs ---> Modules. You did it backwards and "assumed" your current fitting would work.

it is still gonna be nice if we can have a notification while holding mouse on the rig, don't you think?

my guess would be that you fit a gunnery rig, correct?
all gunnery rigs improve the performance of the relative gun at the expense of increasing their power requirements.
this information is clearly listed in the rig description, and as such you really can't say you weren't warned. ***

There is a reason that the ship becomes unusable with high power modules that are offline. If you could fit, say, capital modules on an interceptor, and have them offline, you could move ungodly amounts of minerals via carrier.
Which makes me think, since you never actually undock, does that work? Hrm...
