I've recently been having problems with the graphics in eve. The screen started to distort every now and then when I was in a station. Today, this problem seems to happen whenever I log into Eve, even the login screen is affected. This only happens on eve graphics, every other program on the PC is fine.
I've tried re-installing the graphics card drivers and re-installing Eve.
Any suggestions welcomed.

I`d love to know if you ever got this resolved as I`m having the same issues (randomly)
I`m not at the affected PC at the moment but from memory it`s running MSI KT6 Delta mobo with AMD Athlon 2400+, 1 Gig memory, ATI Radeon 9600.
I`ve tried both onboard and PCI soundcards, reinstalling Eve and relevant drivers but still no joy. I`m going to try a different video card next.

same here...i think i know the problem...eve requires a minimum graphics card/3d accelerator running at 64 MB...unfortunately, mine is only 32...very sad i knpow...so i can't play eve at home...which really sucks...maybe the dev.s could do something to help us with graphics problems???

I hate to say it, but that screenshot looks like a broken or overheating video card. Eve generally gets much higher framerates than other games (especially in stations) which can cause a marginal GPU or video memory to fail, even if it still works fine in other games.
You might want to try turning VSync on to reduce the frame rate, and check the card's cooling fan is running correctly and not clogged with dust -- although, to be honest, the 'chess-board' pattern you can see in the centre of the screen is a classic sign of a broken GPU. |

Edited by: Jadice Dreamshifter on 08/02/2007 06:49:46 My problem is similar, while in a station my computer gets stuck, screen turns black and i gotta reset it. I am aware of certain overheating problems, but isn't it strange IT STARTED JUST LATELY TO SO MANY PEOPLE?
I have a Radeon 9800SE, similar to others that have this problem so I believe it's got something to do with some recent patch that affects ATI cards especially.
As a friend of mine said, we pay 15$ a month and don't consider we should be upgrading or changing our (decent) systems instead of CCP fixing recently appeared bugs, because this did not happen until 3-4 days ago. Personally it's been just a bit over a month since i've been playing but others play for years and have never had this problem.
I'll see what i can do about my VC to try to heat it less, the fan is not dusty and running smoothly, any advice about changing CPU Thermal Throttling in BIOS? It's at 37.5% atm.

If you keep getting this try running at a much lower res until you can replace your gfx card or you could pop some capacitors which will totaly fubar yer gfx card, gioving you a nice checkerboard pattern.
EVE WORKS your gfx card to the max. Not found ANY game that makes it get so hot....
Get a couple of large intake and exhaust fans to move the air out of the case. if you can mod your case side so you have an intake fan blowing on yer gpu even better...
P.S something to remember with lower end gfx cards, you not only get a cheaper gpu, you also tend to get much cheaper components all round. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

ATI 9800XT is a high-end graphics card (although, a few generations old now). Once upon a time, it was the best DX9 card available. If I remember correctly (I own one still), it does generate quite a bit of heat, but the 9800 series was designed to go up and above 100c's, which I doubt EVE is pushing the card too, although I'd check to see if your case is well ventilated, and the graphics card heatsink is clear of dust, because my fan on my 9800XT failed after 2 years of faithful service at 100% fan speed (24/7 uptime).
Might want to try updating to the 7.1 Catalyst drivers too. ---

Well, FWIW I appear to have fixed my GFX corruption problem by reinstalling XP and changing the graphics card to a GeForce 6200 8xAGP 256MB (yeah yeah I know - cheapskate )
I`ll be building another machine sometime soon`ish and then stress testing the original ATI GFX card to see if it fails (I expect it will) before consigning it to the bin.
It seems to me that Eve does drive GFX cards hard - recently fitted a secondhand GeForce FX5800 to the PC I run my 2nd account on and when the pixels start flying the fan starts running very quickly (sounds like an industrial vacuum )
So, for the princely sum of ú40 (thank you eBay ) Eve is now happy and so am I
