Well today was the first time I encountered a pirate.. Silent Arrow..and suprisingly enough I didn't think he was a ass..even though he destroyed maybe 1mil worth of cargo and over 1.5 mil worth of ships. It was funny and interesting. Best of all he didn't say something such as "I PWNED YOUR NOOB ASS!! I AM SOOO L33T"
So to all you pirates out there keep up your thing its part of the game and anyone who doesn't think so should go find something else to do...
Ps. By the way Silet Arrow...Kandera would of beaten you silly had you stuck around.

Hmm, I have still yet to encounter a Pirate who speaks this way. But I will say that those who speak this way are usually "Anti-Pirates" and young bears

Infact if he had been a true pirate the only words you would of seen in local would of been along the lines of.
"xxm ISK - 20 secs"
or "gf".
He's a wannabe nothing more.
EDIT: NOTE if you do get ransomed, do try to bs your way out of the situation, "I'm just waking up my corp boss, .... wait a minute .... he has kids ......"
The time limit is there for a reason.
funny, the pirates of old rarely did that, they ussually went for the cargo.
looks like you don't know what your talking about

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate
Quote: Pirates seized control of the vessel in 75 BCE, kidnapped Caesar, and held him for ransom
...
Modern definitions of piracy include the following acts:
* Kidnapping of people for ransom * Robbery * Murder * Seizure of items or the ship * Sabotage resulting in the ship subsequently sinking
Clearly you do not.
Seeing as players are limited by game mechanics to either get the target to drop their cargo, eject, pay a ransom, or blow them up.
Most players will choose ransom, as no matter the fittings the chances of them being destroyed is high, piracy even in the "old days" was to make a profit, and if all the t2 mods explode, there is little profit to be made.

The ransom thing is a bit wrong to , in a crowded local why would you alert everyone to your activities , you usually convo' your victim to ransom , or at least I do .
And to the OP , didn't he at least say yAAAAr ? or maybe scramble your pod so you could watch him steal your loot ?
Not nearly ebil enough then if you ask me

QFT. If I'm talking to someone, it's definitely not to smack them. If I lose (even if I get ganked) all you'll get out of me in local about it is "gf." I do my best not to be a retard, even though most can attest that sometimes I fail miserably at that. --

Exactly. As a thoroughly reformed pirate, I would like to say that no one speaks like that after an easy kill, I am was so soft I used to reimburse ships after I clicked their info (but a 1 month old guy flying a raven deserves to to die to a cruiser ...its a public service )
In a busy local, I would kill and run, no time for ransome, call me paranoid but I alwyas assumed their stalling was to bring in gankers
Solo hunting is a great buzz...sorry was a great buzz. I am glad that the OP came out of this with such a postivie attitude.
Honest..I no longer pirate http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0701/HangingUpPiratePatch.mpg
I probably should remove my alliance ticker, as my previous actions are certainly not condoned

Edit: Whiners have the loudest voice, and sometimes thats all you will hear. I have let guys go, paid them money and traded them their loot back...omg I must of sucked at piracy..but you dont hear those stories on the forums

Yes, what you did is known as 'Social Engineering'. Its a very strong tactic and many players can be talked into complacency which results in their death. Other players (usually less experienced) can be talked directly into their death without softening them up first.

I dislike being popped, podded or ransomed as much as the next guy but I do like the fact that pirates exist. I have popped a couple and been popped quite a few times. Low-sec ratting and salvaging would not be the same without the danger.
Kudos to Xonja Xxero for ransoming me and honouring the ransom. It was the first sensible ransom demand I've ever received.

I will make a wild stab in the dark and say this engagement took place in the Egghelende system in Sinq Laison. Egg is not a pirate system, it's a gankers system. It's probably the armpit of New Eden and anybody who mines there or runs missions is suicidal.

pirates are awesome. they are normally nice people, the real *******s are the carebears and whiners. I have never encountered a pirate who didn't honour a ransom, and when you are ganked by a pirate you learn things. Like, don't go near BoB controlled 0.0 space with 100 million in imps in your head. But aside from that, i have had alot of fun with the thrill of being pvped by pirates, the thrill of them entering your belt (or uncloaking) and you miserably attempting to warp out before they jam you. I have probably lost well over 200 mill due to pirates, but I don't really care. _________________________________________________________________
