Was it intended that the capital shield booster doesn't get a boost from a full crystal set, or is it a bug?

Intended.
none of the implants help capital mods, same as none of the drone mods/skills help fighters All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

Its intended, otherwise you'd end up with virtually unbreakable Chimera/Phoenix tanks. I seem to remember Tuxford confirming this quite a while ago. -----

Now where did I put that bit of paper with the theoretical DPS-tanked by siege-Phoenix with crystals...
EDIT:
I cant remember the setup I used, but:
[in siege]
339,666 Boost per cycle 5s Duration = 7933.2 Shield per second.
apply that onto 80% resists... (Correct me if my math is wrong, I R Maths noob)
7933.2 x 1.8 = 14,279.76 DPS tanked.
Now that's one hell of a tank. -----

Assuming the boosted amount is correct, 80% would mean that it tanks 7933.2 x 5 = ~40000 dps tanked

care to explain how you come to the 'x 5' from the 80%? As I said maths really isnt my strong point and its really escaping me -----

x is the amount being boosted per second. (lets assume 10 000) y is the resisted percentage. (lets assume 80%) What this means is that 100%-y (20%) of damage shot on to you will get through so what it means is that if x is greater than 100%-y/s, you should be fine. Or if you need to get to an equal level on both sides, it would mean that 10 000 hp/s = 20% of incoming damage/s. Now the /s drops away from each side leaving us with 10 000hp = 20% and since 100/20=5, you get the multiplier of five and a real tanked DPS of 50 000. --- Mandatory disclaimer: These are my thoughts, not my corps/alliances. ---

At 80% resists, you are only doing 20% damage to them, so if you do 5 damage, they take 1. So for every 1 damage they tank, you have to do 5 damage to counter that. So on a theoretical 8000 dps tank, you need 40,000 dps to break it... right?

I think im understanding it now.
on 0% resists, it would take 8001 DPS to break your 8000 DPS tank
however, if you are resisting 80% of that 8001 DPS, the actual DPS hitting you will be 20% of the raw dps, so 8001 x 0.2 = 1600.2 DPS.
So now we can divide our 8000 tanked DPS by our post-resistance attacking DPS:
8000 / 1600.2 = 4.999
this number is the factor by which the attacking DPS must increase to break your tank, and also the factor by which we can multiply our tanked raw DPS by to get our normalized tanked DPS. (which is just under 40,000)
Sound right?

Yes. Divide by the opposite.
1000DPS repped at 80% resists is...
1000 / .20 = 5k DPS tanked
A well fitted moros can tank about 10k DPS so something tells me that phoenix number is way off -or- cannot be sustained.

Ok so, to clarify. What I am trying to prove is that the theoretical DPS tanked by a Phoenix dreadnaught in Siege mode if Crystal implants had an effect on Capital Shield Boosters would be insane, hence why they do not have an effect.
The setup I will base my calculations on is as follows (I will stick to using 'standard' Tech II equipment for the sake of fairness):
Capital Shield Booster I Shield Boost Amplifier II (36% increase in shield boost amount) Photon Scattering Field II Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissapation Field II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II
Full-grade Crystal set giving an overall bonus of +53.63% to shield boost amount.
The base statistics of this setup are:
Shield Boost amount per cycle: 13371.955 (10s cycle time) Shield Resistances (EM/EXP/KIN/THERM): 72.43/79.3/81.62/77.94 Average resist: 77.82 Sheild/s: 1337.1955
The statistics when siege mode should be (2x Boost amount, 0.5x cycle time):
Shield Boost amount per cycle: 26743.99 (5s cycle time) Sheild/s: 5348.798
(100 - 77.82) /100 = 0.2218
5348.798 / 0.2218 = 24115.41 Average DPS Tanked by that setup. So maybe its not sustainable, but thats still one hell of a tank.
This time I'm pretty sure my math is right (unless quickfit is lying to me about the initial shield boost amount).
So, errr yeah Crystals + Capitals = too good to be true. -----

read the post please, I did mention that fact. Besides, with that kinda boost amount I doubt you'd have to run your booster constantly anyway.
I didn't set out to provide the perfect working Phoenix setup, I thought that was pretty clear by the fact I was using a hypothetical situation where a full crystal set actually had an effect on the Capital Booster... -----
