...do you by chance have an NVIDIA graphics card? If you do...I point you to this slashdot article concerning NVIDIA driver incompatability with windows Vista.
Nvidia Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Vista Drivers
Advice, stay away from a new OS for at least 4 months while show breaking bugs get sorted...unless you like playing around with unstable systems. ;)

You have to set the DEP setting to allow EvE to run. Silly microsoft Do a quick search in the help and it tells you how to make the exception.

Edited by: Von Druid on 03/02/2007 14:43:28 I could run EVE on Vista Ultimate x64 without having to change any system settings. Using an nForce 4 mobo and a 7800GT, so I doubt there's driver incompatibility.

I got no problems with Vista and eve and I'm using the latest nvidia drivers. If I were you I would install Xp on a separate partition/hdd, install eve and wait untill nvidia release better drivers.

There is your problem. Everyone knows that most products, especially software, have problems in their first X.0 iteration.
However Microsoft have turned this into an artform.
I may consider installing Fista at some time in the future, once MS start issuing patches for the patches for the bug/security fixes that fix the problems caused by the service packs.

Edited by: EPSILON DELTA on 04/02/2007 04:06:21 XP is good enough for anything you need right now unless you want to use DX10 goodies, but not many games uses DX10 anyway.
imo by the time DX10 becomes more widely used, and DX10 video cards droped to a reasonable price level, the gods will have sent us a fully working pirated vista for download already.
so there's really no reason to buy vista right now.

There's plenty of reason to BUY Vista now (the OEM copies, the upgrade vouchers etc). What you mean to say is there isn't enough reason to install it now :) ************************************************
Wohoo! No more negative sec status. It's a shame it took me TWO YEARS of Carebearing to get rid of a lousy -1.2 |

I'd say roll back to win98SE but noone supports it anymore.. So unfortunately XP FTW until Vista is about 6 months old or more..

I'd rather take a DOS shell over 98SE.

There is NO good reason to upgrade to Vista whatsoever. Benchmarking XP and Vista side by side does not show ANY good reason to upgrade except for the 'nahnahnah i have a new expensive OS and you don't'
Benchmarking Vista vs XP = KO

Okay first the naysayers usually do not have a clue about software
I do software testing for a living and I can tell you Vista is a solid OS release. The major issues right now have more to do with drivers than the games. As for reasons to upgrade to Vista:
1) If you have kids, Vista has amazing parental controls already built it. It is now easy to limit the kids access to not just the tme they are on the computer but the specific software they can use as well.
2) Improved system security, Vista makes some major changes to the core of OS and adds a ton of security. It is a bit of a pain in the butt at first as it questions ever installation, however once you are done it does lend a sense of security to the OS.
3) Improved base applications, The new Windows Mail includes a good spam filter and Windows Calendar is PERFECT for helping the family keep their schedules on track.
4) Ease of networking, setting up a home network has never been easier.
For limitless possibilities, you need Infinite Dreams

So basically if you have vista your screwed because the drivers are crap.. K.. So sounds like an excellent reason to wait a while before you are inevitably forced to upgrade..

Well I cannot see where my Hardware Acceleration settings are, seems to be disabled in the Nvidia control panel under Vista x32.
My findings are here in relation to Eve

Only problem I had with Eve and Vista x64 is I had to install DirectX 9 to play eve...
Than again I've not installed any graphics drivers yet...
Oh and I'm using an nVidia 6600 on a (nearly bust ) ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (the main PCIx slot's just died on me ).
Other "interesting" bugs I've found so far:
MSN Music - Please install XP or 2000 as your using a none supported Operating System :D WinAMP Pro - Program failed to start because PX.DLL is not installed, yet I'm listening to a radio station using WinAMP right now. VLC - the playback's not as smooth as on XP... I'm thinking I may need to install the drivers from nVida....
But eve does play very well on Vista, and I'm hoping that the next Motherboard / CPU I get will be with vista drivers...
