Here is a Lvl 4 Abaddon that works very well. Emphasis is on long range plus cap recharge rate.
lo: 2 X heat sink II; 1 X LAR II; 3 X rat- specific armor hardeners II; 1 X cap power relay II
Mid: 1 X AB II; 2 X cap recharger II
Hi: 6 X Tachyon Modulated Energy Beam I; 2 X Medium Beam Laser I
Rigs: 3 X cap control circuit I
Drones: 7 X rat-specific Medium Scout II
Ship can fire all lasers, AB, and the 3 hardeners and slowly charge up cap.
Attributes: cap 7650 (224 sec recharge); cpu 700 avail (561.4 used); pwr grid 26250 avail (25522 used)
laser attributes: Tachys - 66 km optimum (Amarr Navy Std xtals), 10X damage, 7.32 sec ROF; Medium Beams are for frigates: 12 km opt, 5.17X damage, 2.46 sec ROF
This ship will outrun the big rats, so can control engagements. Engaging at 50 km out, you can actively tank four biggies while (slowly) taking them down one-by-one. Drones plus the two Medium Beams kill the smaller, faster stuff that is webbing/disrupting you.
Works very well..

I was having some problems with the level 4 mission 'Pirate Invasion' against Sansha's Nation, so I followed some of the above advice and tried an Abaddon. Here's what I used.
8x Mega Pulse Laser I (ultraviolet 24km/radio 38km)
Tracking Computer II (optimal range/tracking speed script as needed)
3x Capacitor Recharger II
2x Large Armour Repairer II
2X N-Type EM Hardener
2X N-Type Thermal Hardener
Type D Capacitor Power Relay
3x Capacitor Control Circuit
3 squads of 5 Acolytes, for close encounters...
I could run 1 repairer and all the guns with no problems, or both repairers and shoot down the occasional cruiser.
An awesome tank and very flexible on range, my new favourite mission ship!
