Edited by: Foomatic on 04/02/2007 01:56:49 First of all: Yes, I know that the Abaddon is designed to have Capacitor problems.
My current Abaddon-Fitting uses 43 Energy/s just to fire its lasers. With this energy, you could run 1.3 Large Armor Repairers.
An octet of Ion Blasters uses about 16 Energy/s, Missile turrets and Projectile turrets: Zero Energy/s!
So an Abaddon needs way more energy for normal ship operation than any other Battleship out there. As I have no precise capacitor calculators, I can only estimate that the Abaddon has about 10-15% more energy available than other battleships.
You could try to compensate that lack with a 3 capacitor-rigs (+45% recharge rate), but is this fair? You need to spend millions over millions just to make this ship able to fire over a long period! Other ships can use those rig slots to make their ships way more powerful.
I thought about, what you could do to make this ship worth flying. But the only idea I had, was to lower the laser capa consumption by at least 50%. But this would mean, that the Abaddon too powerful, compared to the other Amarr battleships.
As all Amarr Pilots of my corp gave up in Abaddon-recovery, I hope to hear other experiences. If I hand not skilled for Tech2 Energy Turrets and Amarr Battleship V, I would INSTANTLY skill for another race, but I don't wanna give up all this. I still think CCP has thought anything about designing the Abaddon and the place of Amarr Ships out there ... or not?
Please do NOT post that you agree or sth like that. Only reasonable proposals :)

well granted i dont fly Amarr, i mostly fly gallente but the problem with the abadon is it doesnt have a cap reduction on its lazers or a cap bonus thus you eat alot of power to fire your lazers.
they devs wouldnt give it a 3rd bonus because that would make it over powered so imho the only thing they could do is remove the damage or the resistence bonus and replace it with a cap bonus or reduction lazer cap useage.
Other then that all i can think of is do what someothers are doing and fit a cap booster like blasterthrons have been doing for a long time :P

Fitting a passive tank and some cap rechargers/cap power relay's might work as well.

Using Cap Boosters is a really good idea ... I thought. But in fact you need always one Cap Booster MORE than an equivalent other Battleship. So if you need one on a Mega you will need two on an Abaddon.
I tried a two Cap Booster Fitting with 2 Large Reppers and 2 Damage Mods against an Mega with nearly the same fitting. Those two ships are nearly equal in firepower, but the Abaddon has a better tank. But as you have such a high energy usage that you run out of Cap Rechargers when the Mega has about 10 left in cargo ;) So no chance if you fight against a Mega with a Cap Recharger and a Dual-Repper Fitting. And even if you can load three times more cap boosters, it would change nothing, because both ships can tank the other one ;)
Fitting Cap Power Relays is just a waste of slots. You need to double your capacitor recharge time (so 4-5 Modules with 20%) just to run a single repper. I think it is not the meaning of this ship not beeing able to effectively use the ship-bonus because you must fit a very large amount of cap rechargers. Then I will use a Apoc with two damage mods and 3 active hardeners and have the same ship.

Abaddon, as it is, is only really usefull as a fleet ship where you don't rep. And you have a rly nice a-strike. For small gans use a geddon and for solo pvp; just don't.
And passive tanking (assuming you mean shields as they can be passively tanked, armor cannot) on an amarran ship is plane idiotic. More so for one with armor bonus.
As I see it; in order for the abaddon to be a viable option something should really be changed. Cap, cap recharge, lasers' cap use in general. Or all of the above.

Beeing unable to Gank a Dual-Repper-Mega was not the point of my posting. I wanted to point out, that capacitor essential for PVP. By just fireing your weapons, you are unable to tank at the same time. So you need Cap-boosters for your tank and these will run out. So you have absolutely no chance if time becomes a factor in PVP.
The Abaddon may be a great fleet ship. But I give a **** on this. Playing EVE is not a fleet-vs-fleet encounter. I never made a bigger fleet engagement and will never do, because it simply sucks.
If you play smaller engagements the Abaddon tank a lot. But a Apoc or Geddon would still be the first choice, because you can nearly reach the Abaddons stats, by fitting the right modules. An Abaddon cant use its bonus effectively - only by wasting so many slots for capa recharge time.
But finally I have a suggestion: Give the Abaddon an additional Cap-Booster bonus. Either on Volume (m¦) of the Charges, or a the boost effectiveness. So the Capacitor lack could be compensated a bit. Cap Boosters would be the ammunition for the Abaddon :)
