This is problem a noob question, Yet, I have been thinking of training to fly a carrier. Yet, is it even worth it for mission running? and how does it jump from different systems?
I know they use fuel and can go about 2 ly, but in general how far is that? |

Have you noticed the increase of stupid (non-researched) questions since skill injectors became a thing? |

If you need to ask these questions, you shouldn't even be contemplating carriers yet. |

I dont use and will not use skill injectors or skill extractors! for 2 reasons, 1. Don't have the isk and 2. if I did would rather purchase plex than those skill injectors! |

Carriers are in a fluid state, new capital ship changes will make most of what we know just history.
1) Carriers wont be able to fly drones.... just fighters.... and new skills for fighters have been added. 2) Fighters will fly in flights, you cant "see" one fighter and its damage... just how many fighters are left... I can imagine suddenly having a flight of fighters drop from 5 to 2 or similar LOL. 3) Repair and support will change.... you wont be able to make carriers into a self supporting blob.... or at least as easily... 4) You cant refit with combat timer on.. no more shield modules till shield dies then insta. fit armor modules etc... 5) fighters will take time to change role fits... fighters ready for anti fighter missions take time to reload with torpedo etc for capital smashing
but
1) range of combat will be bigger... and new camera abilities to use... 2) new T2 modules for capital ships... 3) carriers can dock/tether to certain of the new citadels... you don't need a carrier character logged off in space with your ship. 4) ????
reading the developers blog helps but specific numbers haven't been available yet.
It might still be worth ratting in some well scouted and secure as possible systems in null or similar but missions? I have read of players using carriers for missions in low sec but the post was old... not something I have done so I am not one to advise on this.
Basically CCP wants people to really think through fits before combat and have to stand by their judgement. So carrier play will probably be different and need to be explored for ideas before more meaningful feedback is possible. |

Carriers (and dreads) can currently dock in stations and outposts. It is supermarkets and Titans that can't and that need the coffin-sitter to sit in space with them.
OP - some people use carriers to blots L5 missions in Lowsec for some crazy ISK. From a general PVE aspect though, ratting is where a carrier is at because they can't get into HS.

Whoops, trying to forum at 2am on an iPad with overzealous autocorrect is obviously not a good idea for my groceries... |

LOL.. read it over about five times and still got the docking wrong... I have been trying to think through a super carrier ratting havens and similar in null.... mainly just to see what it would work out but not enough detail yet on changes and I am ages of f a super. Many thanks for the correction.
I did leave out one important point. Low / null or whatever space a carrier will still be a wanted kill mail.... and people camp high level mission areas.....
If you become predictable about using a carrier in missions in null / low then expect to be jumped.
I looked up the old post about missions in low and the guy talked about having 3 carriers ... one in each system the missions always went to.... didn't jump between systems just picked up the carrier based in the system missions sent him to. Just seems very very risky but.....

This (currently) only works if there's an NPC station eligible for docking in each misson system. The only problem with bypassing a gate camp in a system is that they're still there when your carrier pops out.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

No. Can store the carrier in a POS. |

If you are a new player, postpone any capital dreams for now. The training time is on a scale of years.
For example, you would need
Jump Drive Operation V Navigation V Science V Warp Drive Operation V
just for starters, and that is just for the jump drive, forget about drones, defensive module, offensive modules and the ship itself. For example, the training time just for fighters is crazy:
Drone Interfacing V Drones V Leadership V
Then you face training Fighters itself which is a 12x training time multiplier. Don't forget that the costs for capital ship skills typically are in the hundreds of millions of ISK, also.
Basically, what I am saying here is: forget caps, play the game for a year and get your feet wet. Once you have a solid year under your belt, revisit your long term plans. |

I wouldn't necessarily say it's on a scale of "years" (since you can now inject SP as needed), but it's certainly an undertaking.

Play with subcaps. Learn how not to get sploded. It's a lot cheaper that way.
Maybe see if you can tag along with a capship hunter to see what incoming trouble looks like if you really want a capship.

Your limited to a few level 5 missions in low sec that allow carriers IIRC. If your going capital I cannot stress enough having MULTIPLE active accounts.
Better yet. http://crossingzebras.com/so-you-want-to-fly-a-carrier/ there's some helpful tips in there. |
