Iria Ahrens wrote:ok, this doesn't affect me much, but I am curious. Why are POS being removed really? Pos are small, citadels are HUGE. It seems to me like CCP is saying, No more frigates, cruisers, and battleships because we now have TITANS!
I understand the citadels are going to have a different mechanic, with modular builds etc, and it all sounds great, but HUGE! Are there going to be modular small stations too?
I think the main draw of the POS of old is that they were accessible to small groups. But it doesn't sound like this is applicable to the new citadel mechanic. Because CCP hasn't really demonstrated that citadels are a POS replacement, I've seen the blogs, and they seem to be outpost replacements, which is a whole different scale. So if citadels aren't replacing POS, why are POSs being removed too?
You could put a small pos in a BR and drop it off inside a Wh and start your own little operation. What about the little guy in all this new mechanic?
I think a huge misunderstanding is going on concerning citadels atm My reading, is they aren't directly replacing POSes, they are replacing the role of Gallente outposts with added stuff Other structures will be coming in to replace current POS mechanics, these structures should be along the lines of cost of current POSes + modules
Sure Citadels will be do things you can do with POS'es or industry/research specific outposts, but not as well as the future structures that are planned |

Thanks, fly safe One thing to consider: If you are in high sec, and use your POS for refining and/or compression: Be aware that you can unanchor and scoop your POS in a short amount of time in the event of war. That is, you do not need to worry about defending it. At the moment, we do not know how long it takes to scoop a citadel. I've heard rumors it will take over a day, which means you cannot take it down in the event of war before the war goes live. You must defend it. Thus, you may find keeping your POS to be preferable.
Unanchor takes 7 days, and it can be RF'd while unanchoring during your vulnerability window |

POS need to be left alone for small groups or CCP is just going to force more people to find other games as small group content keeps getting removed. |

Small tower cost you 100mil, large citadel 8-10bil

Wrong. You, CCP guys, managed to make a serios nerf to any offensive operation. Small tower costs about 100 MIO ISK and can be deployed quick and silent. Medium citadel costs 700 milions and its deployment in hostile space is a suicide without large fleet permanently guarding it. So in FW when system belongs to other side we can deploy small POS and operate from it to take the system. You replace expendable POS with expensive citadels (if we plan to use capital ships there it will cost us 7 bililons instead of 100 milions). That will seriosly limit small gang operations, IMHO.

Wardec mechanics will most likely be modified with the new Citadeles so you could have time to knock it down and get it to a safe spot.
I think POSs are dead now. I had a large Faction POS selling once for 1.6 Bill. I sold it now in Jita for just 750 Mill. market high. Get rid of whatever you can now otherwise you have to refine it. |

Citadels have a 7-day unanchor timer because you are suppose to have to defend your Citadels. CCP is intentionally doing this so you cannot take them down in the event of a wardec as was confirmed by CCP Nullarbor in the other thread in GD.
If you want to enjoy the benefits of a Citadel, you have to plan for defending a Citadel. As it should be.
As to POSes, CCP has said there will be some sort of transition which probably will include some sort of buy back or conversion. They certainly won't straight out delete them and their blueprints. Who knows how they will set the price or material value, but at this point I would hold on to them to see what is announced at Fanfest in a few weeks.

Errr i was under the impression they could not be scooped and were built in place like outposts, how exactly do you plan to "scoop" something that has player ships docked inside it? |

I think everyone should stay put with their POS'es for the moment. There is no way that Citadel is being released on the 27th of this month (evidence from the test server shows the thing is a complete and utter mess with literally nothing working correctly as yet - in fact it's so bad it isn't even worth bug reporting on since the flaws are so grossly obvious).
I would suggest that the developer revise release date for Citadel sooner rather than later to save panic. |

I haven't played in like a year so forgive me if I sound dumb...
So with the eventual removal of POS's, where am I going to be able to copy and invent t2 bpcs in high sec or am I going to have to move to low sec? OR are these citadels suppose to replace POS's in all functionality?
Also I operate on a small member basis. What the heck am I going to do with a big ass citadel? |

That is the plan anyway.

pretty much this. or you deploy a citadel and add a manufacturing/research service module and use the citadel for less of a bonus (kind alike putting beams on a raven, you can do it, but its not the best use of the raven's hull)
