How well do heavy drones do against frigates? For that matter, how well do Sentry drones do against frigates? Their tracking rate is equally, but slower than medium drones.
The item database states the Sentry drones do 50 damage. Does that take into account the bonus from the required four levels of Drone Interfacing? Wouldn't that mean their damaged would be 90 if the bonus is added?
Thanks for the help.

They both do pretty poorly without a web. The heavy drones will be unable to catch most frigs with non-tarded pilots, and the sentry drones won't be able to track at all. I don't know what you're flying, but you'd probs do well to have one less heavy/sentry drone in your bay and replace it with 5 light drones, which get the job done much much faster.
Or if you're talking about PvE, then heavy drones are fine, but sentrys still won't track.
Your other question: yes it would, I think. ------ ------

Sentries crush anything cruiser-size and larger at a 50km range. They do roughly the same damage as T1 heavies, too. The usage of them revolves around:
1) Hold still. 2) Deploy sentries. 3) Rough someone up far away. 4) Scoop sentries when stuff gets too close. 5) Deploy lighter drones to slice up smaller ships that are on you now.
I use them on my Nanophoon when I'm engaging enemy BSes. I warp in a bit too far away, drop the drones, and rush at the enemy to scram him. The sentries sit outside of harm's way, and I can actually retrieve them if the battle goes sour (heavy drones don't come back to Nano-ships =P). They're niche and hard to use, but I love 'em. ----------------------------

Sentries are great. I'd use them in a PvP gate camp, but they are wonderful in complexes or farming mobs in belts. You park in a ranging ship (I love the Typhoon for this), and do as the other poster said.
Some things that help:
- Target Painters: They help everything, use them.
- Drone Augmentation Modules: There is one that will boost control range. Sentries will only fire if the sentry and your target are both withing your drone control range. It is possible for the sentry's range to extend beyond your control range. There are also modules to help with drone tracking if you feel you want to let your sentries deal with closer targets.

Omnidirectional Tracking links are quite usefull for sentrys. Garde hit very hard at 35km with 2 of them. and also to note, if a Frigate aproaches you directly, while your sentrys are shooting at it, it goes boom very quickly.

Wouldn't Drone Navigation help the heavies keep up with the frigs?
Does anyone know how Drone Naviagtion effects drone speed?

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 05/02/2007 19:22:03 I use 5 Sentry drones on my Domi with BS lvl 4 and Drone interfacing lvl 5 and with 2 omnidirectional links they shred absolutly anything.
I use the kinetic ones and the thermals (garade?), the kinetics can hit interceptors at 90km (use some range modules) and basically 1 volley them while the garades can track fairly well all the way up to around 15km without issue.
I alwayse cary around some t2 lights and some ogres just for when things get way too close. If i add all my dual large railguns nothing lasts very long (dont even need nos) and since you using duals you can fit a monster tank with a cap injector.
And for the heavies I dont care what skills and modules you have they just cant keep up with frigates and they cant track them. You NEED to alwayse keep atleast 5 lights handy for frigates unless you want to leave yourself vulnerable to them.

What if you just replace a heavy with the Webbing drone? Would that slow it down enough for the other heavies to chew things up?
I figure slowing it down that way also means you don't need to pack a webber of your own (untill they waste the webber drone)

So can you scoop sentry drones to your bay even if you are 5km+ away from it? Someone said heavy drones dont come back so you use sentries. I thought sentry drones cant move. Thanks in advance. ______________________________________________________________

Sentrys dont move .. you catch them on the fly.

Drop your sentrys and then park youself on top of them. You should never move away from your sentry drones unless you intend to web your target down inside your drones optimal.
If you move away from your sentrys you run the risk of the target getting into a spot your sentrys cannot hit and then being unable to scoop and deploy heavies.

Webbie drones help, but they are not nearly as effective as a module. Just check their stats.
As to scooping drones, yes, they don't move. If I leave them, then I consider them lost. It is nice if I get them back, but I'm not expecting to. I usually just park and deploy them.
