Ya, so long story short, I have this mechanics problem.
I need to use Taylor Series to show that the normal strain, (ds' - ds)/s = (1/2)*((delta^2)/(L^2)). The triangle has the properties such that its hypot = L', adjac = L, oppos = delta. The obvious answer is L' = sqrt(L^2 + delta^2), but you need to find a simpler equation for L' using Taylor series, using forward difference.
f(x+h) = f(x) + f'(x)*h h = delta f(x) = sqrt(L^2 + delta^2) = L'
Now wtf am I suppose to solve for to find a "new" equation that approximates L'? f'(x) and integrate?

Ironically, thats exactly where I found the solution; only thing is that its just as scary, but makes more sense.
Wikipedia is God.
I wish I was born "normal" like everyone else its amazing the **** they try and shove down my throat in University.

ewww taylor series integration, I remember doing that at uni and scraped through by the skin of my teeth, its all forgotten though, you get out to industry and realise that no one remembers how to actually do these calculations because there's computer software that does it all for you (hysis ftw!!!)

... pythagorias theorem? basic geometry? c^2 = a^2 + b^2? Geez, you'd cry in my mechanics class, our prof. just whips out this insane geometric analysis, makes your brain hurt.

No, U of Calgary, Schulich School of Engg. Only way I think it could get worse is to be at Waterloo; had a Physics TA say he wrote the lab component of some course there and purposely made it insanely hard to knock them (Waterloo Engg. Students) down a few pegs.

Whoa now, we just went from doing a little snip snip on the fun tackle to face stabbings, I think we should give this a little time.
