Do you really want a game that the developers don't even play?
I mean it has to be pretty bad if the developer doesnt even play it, right?

Why do you think that vivox junk hasn't been released yet?
Icelandic Viking Police caught Oveur playing EVE, and he's been given thirteen consecutive life sentences.
He ain't ever gettin' out o' th' big house.

Oh, you really did miss it ?
Sorry then.
Yes they are allowed to play, in fact i think some of them might even be required to actually.
Their accounts are also continuously checked for abuse btw.

If you want to play a game that the devs don't play, try SWG. I hear it's doing really well right now.

WTB dev for my corp (must have abuse checking disabled), will pay in sexual favours!
I reckon it is cool for the devs to play their own creation.

Thanks but is that fair for the rest of the community, dont they suppose to have a better knowledge of the game because they can actually adjust it to their liking?

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 06/02/2007 02:42:37 Well, they can't really can they ? A dev play account has no powers our accounts don't have either. The dev accounts that do have the powerz get monitored and have this funny text colour that kinda makes em stand out in local too.
Aside fromtem kowing stuff there's not much they can do. And I bet alot of us know more stuff then they do anyway, since we don't actually work that hard.

Besides which, who would enforce it if it WAS illegal? To the best of my knowledge, there is no law in iceland that prohibits the creators of a game from playing that game.
I mean, that's like prohibiting a musician from hearing himself playing. ***

Sure, but i bet i still beat the guy in charge of pixelshading when it comes to finding officer spawns :p
Most devs work on some obscure stuff that's got very little to do with stuff that could give them an advantage. There's only a very few tuxfords that know what's going to happen to module X, and even then there's only a very very few things that happen that don't happen on sisi first where everyone can see em happen.
So don't worry. It's all fine, and tuxford's wife doesn't let him play anwyay

Huh if it was illegal then someone should be able to enforce it. But its not illegal for devs to play with their devs accounts i guess.
What i was asking was if devs are not allowed to play the game with another character that actually doesnt show that they are devs.

"What i was asking was if devs are not allowed to play the game with another character that actually doesnt show that they are devs."
According to what was posted by various devs in various threads, they are allowed to play the game with another account/character than their dev character. If there's public connection made between these two (i.e. someone figures what 'regular character' a dev has and posts it all over some public forum) then the regular character is being put out of game. (they can't do that to developer's "dev character" because people would still figure out easily Tuxford under name Drofxut is the same guy because he's still tweaking the ship balance and such ... so it's the 'regular characters' that get the axe in such case)

Like complexes or BPO's for example . I am sure you can test that on sisi

Yes, they are allowed. While doing so they should generally try to avoid telling anyone such character is actually played by a dev, though, because once it becomes public knowledge people start to attribute everything to "devs cheating to get ahead" etc.

You make it sound really dodgy...
Why SHOULDN'T a developer play their own game? Why would they be involved on a game project they aren't willing to play? Who would possibly write a law declaring such behaviour "illegal"? Who would enforce it. How would they be able to adequately monitor the way the game works and the way the community behaves if not by getting involved.

I'd be worried if dev's didn't play.
They'd be out of touch and missing a heck of a lot.
