Here is something I do not understand. Your a PVPer, you enjoy killing other players because they are not NPC's. That part I get. But what kind of enjoyment do you get out of popping miners? What kind of a challange is a retriever. A hulk might pose a little bit of a challange, maybe. I dont have one yet.
Can anyone out there tell me what the point is? Anyone? Miners keep minerals flowing into the economy, more miners mean more supply, more supply means lower prices, thats good for everyone right? So why? I just can't wrap my mind around it.

miners contribute to the economic development of the host entity in their space
i.e. resident mine in "x" alliance space
miner refines in "x" alliance space
therefore miner contributes to "x" alliance in both materiel and isk
Thus said miner is a legit target
now if "y" alliance can severly disrupt miners in "x" alliance space then this will result in a reduction in income for "x" alliance
this is why your a legit target for pvp and well you just blow up soooooo good

Well, not that I like pvpiers a whole lot but they are helping the economy as well: I sell barges, mining upgrades, crystals...
And if you get poded in the process, a corpmate of mine is the king of implants |

I respect the Pirates and Scallywags that PvP for isk, it's the same reason I mine baby. It's the ones who say "I PvP for honor/respect" I find fishy.
And as a miner:
"Can anyone out there tell me what the point is? Anyone? Miners keep minerals flowing into the economy, more miners mean more supply, more supply means lower prices, thats good for everyone right? So why? I just can't wrap my mind around it."
Why would you want that? You just lost your miner pimp card baby!

The answer is mostly a psychological. If the attacker cannot blow anything better than his/her head on the keyboard, then picking easy prays. Even in this case that your barge is fitted with proper eq and you do much damage to the sucker they destroy your can and run away with tails under legs.

Because you would have to be mentally impaired to mine alone without support while there are hostiles in local. As such a lone miner must be assumed to be:-
-Bait -Well supported by others in a nearby system
This precludes ransoming as the attack must be a fast in-out jobbie. If you actually ARE mining on your own without support...well...darwin ftw.
If you are in alliance space then get friendly with the local alliance. If you are in lowsec then contact the local pirates ahead of time with offers of iskies to stop splodies

I do it for several reasons namely...
1) Because i can 2) Because the hatemail written in crayon is just soooo funny :P 3) For the pweety boom 4) As someone else said earlier, i is indeed 'all about the loot baby' 5) For eve 'education' 6) Because miners suck for sitting in one place for any period of time firing lasers at something that won't fight back, its cruel i tells ya

If I was a pirate (and I'm not, but if I was), it would be because hunting isn't just about intense 1 on 1 fights, it's about being able to approach defenseless prey without scaring them off and going in for the kill.

It's not a useless thread. You're mixing it up with the ones that say people shouldn't gank miners, this one simply asks why. ----------

The sorry truth to your question is.
"Because I can"
That is the only reason and it makes some people feel proud of the fact that they can. Other explanatory "reasons" are just a way to justify the fact that there is no reason.
Now the interesting part comes when you let other people think that they can, and then pop their POD.

You drop some nice stuff every once and a while. But mostly cos it annoys me to see miners mining in low sec and not warp away when you enter the belt.

Sometimes, miners are creamy on the inside.
And on other occasions, they sacrifice their drake or megathron to concord for "revenge".
When you pick up the loot and read the smacktalk, you tell yourself, "That was worth my 15$"

I LOVE posts like this.
"Um, so I don't want to flame anyone or cause any arguments but why are all pirates 13-year-old virgins in their parent's basement who get off on the misery of others because their daddy's beat them? I'm just curious and want a straight answer without anyone getting offended."
