Hi.
It would be nice if each item in the listings would have a red or green corner which indicates if a character with the current skills can use it (green), or not (red).
A sorting by "usage status" should also be possible.
See it here!
Greetings, thanks for reading,

Really all this does is make the game 'easier' and not even that. This only really applies to those who have 10 or more skills in their station. To be honest, if you can't bring yourself to right-click on them and see the Skill requirements I don't think you're playing the right game.

thats not a bad idea. really, its a simple change that makes the game just a little easier. personally, id rather just look at a picture than have to right click...
might cause some 'nice' lag when opening up your items or w/e though. :(

not gonna happen. i remember people asking ccp about even putting a mark on the bpc so you can instantly tell that they are bpc. this is apparently very hard to do so i would imagine the skills cant be much easier.

Well, it should be rather simple to implement. Permanently, most characters train some skill. Means, the skills and their levels are known. That alone is needed to have the client marking that little upper corner red or green.
Right? What do you all think about it? Post your opinions or wishes here! Greetings, thanks for reading,

I don't think it will create much lag persay. If it did it would be because the Skillbook would no longer be just another item. It would change when you traded it to someone else for example. When you open up your items the server accesses your current skills then matches them up with the skillbooks in the hangar then would have to turn them colors accordingly. I forsee a little bit (more) lag opening the hangar because of this and bugs as a result of the items changing hands. IE, I trade a skill that someone else CAN train but it still shows as red. Things like that arise, and its definately nothing the devs should have to worry about when there is much more important things to worry about. Like Gameplay. I just don't think it is needed at all. Sure, it would be nice to have...
--But why not just make EVE consistently train skills for you while you're at it? --Put the statistics of your modules on screen in space so you never have to right click. --Make autopilot initiate boosters while approaching gates
Oh and I almost forgot.

Look at the market, I like the little green or red book there's in there. If the item changes hand, I don't see why it would mess or anything, nothing has to be strored in the object actually, it is a clientside option and the client is actually calculating if you can use/learn (pretty much the same, just about skill requirements) and adds a red or green corner or nothing if the item is not interactive when you open the container. An option should be added in the graphics options menu to show or not such thing.
Items icons have four corners, one is for T2 or not, another is for number, it lets 2 free ones... And it would only be hiding an unuseful part of the icon background. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Flying Vexor and Ishkur, Myrmidon was too slow, got ganked by 3 BC and a Megathron... |

Plain and simple, not needed. Why dumb it down?
For Example: I have about 30 skills in my hangar at the moment. I know what they are and what skills I need to be able to train them. That's a good thing, because it educates me. Everytime I right-click on a skill I understand WHY it is designed the way it is and what skills I need to train it. In turn I can then figure out how those skills I need to train will benefit me.
It is part of EVE. It is supposed to be complex. It is part of the steep learning curve. It is part of EVE's survival of the fittest. ~~~~~~~~~ Hey Gai. Bak Off Coz Ai Bang Yu Hawd. K Gai? |

Eleana Tomelac is right, she thinks like me and many others. But the other points and opinions are good, even if I do not neccessarily share each of them.
I am very happy about the good resonance (participation)! Go on that way! Post your opinions! Greetings, thanks for reading,

This can't be done in Eve.
They can't do it for BP's (for BPO/BPC), and skills will be no different :/

Maya, how you want to know that? I am a programmer, as well, and I could easily do something similar... Greetings, thanks for reading,

Yes it can.
BPO/BPC isnt feasible because it has to query the server to get the data.
Your client already has all of information regarding what skills your need to use whatever item, therefore no query is required to the server. This could be put on every single item without any additional load on the server because it would be done completely on the client.

Edited by: Lakotnik on 08/02/2007 23:46:43 Refering to your part about impossible. There is a small difference between impossible to do and impossible cause most of people dont want that. And as its not affecting gameplay i think of no reason why they would not listen to community. Imagine you re only car producer everywhere. Till now you had black cars, majority of people is more than happy with that, some prefer pink ones. Now you re thinking about making pink cars and people dont like that idea cept a couple. Would you risk and do that?
About topic. Anyway, for BPCs and bpos there could be a small mark with visible number of available bpc runs. For ability to use item and not use it - when you buy an item you see you wont be able to use it (red book). I personally know most of the skills i have and most of the items i can use now. I know what skills i need to train something else, i know what i need to fly/use something... I think that additional icons will look worse, even tho they ll make life easier for most of the people. So - implement or not... if you have nothing better to do, its not bad. But there are many more things that need to be considered and are much higher priority. Smile, tomorrow will be worse. |
