Envisioning a day (post the big patch on Monday).. where PvP combat will be something other than everyone in a battleship shooting at each other. I was curious about cruiser PvP combat. This is not a post about what the best setup is or anything, but more of a curious question about want everyone thinks is a good/best PvP combat cruiser. I know there will likely be many who say that the Blackbird is the be-all/ end-all of cruiser combat, but I’m curious if this will remain the same thought if CCP makes the changes to EW that they say they are. With all this in mind, I’m hoping to hear what people think/use for Cruiser combat and why they think this way.
Thanks in advance for helping me satisfy my curiosity :)

Caracal.
5 launchers and 4 medslots for shield stuff.
Unless the enemy has some launchers with defenders a Caracal will win.

so far IŠve had pretty good fun in my Rupture (for damage), the Caracal (mean missile boat) and of course the BB as an EW support ship. I havenŠt tried the Throax and the Moa yet, but IŠve noticed them to be tough buggers, the Thorax because of the tons of drones, and the moa for sheer damage output.

I will champion the Thorax because I own one, and up close it is a nasty piece. The MOA is pure damage over distance, and the BB is awesome as an EW back-up ship.

You can kick the thorax pretty much in the trash can. With the AB/MWD changes there will be no "up close" for it anymore - by the time it actually arrives at it's target it's either spece dust or has no cap anymore.

I seriously hope that isn't the case, and that they give a ship that has a specific role the role it deserves. I can't imagine that they would render an entire class of ship obsolute, especially considering its populairty.

Rupture: 3 turrets + 3 Launchers (1 for defenders) + Drones.

On chaos, all the level 3 cruisers perform about the same. A blaster Thorax is an unhappy ship because of the speed mods, but otherwise, they're pretty similar. A Blackbird or Caracal will win vs any of them in 1 on 1 though.
Haven't ran into any mixed fleet battles on chaos yet, but I can imagine a group of well coordinated high damage cruisers being used to take out EW frigs/cruisers first, then working on a battleship before they get taken apart.
With speed mod changes being where they are, I'd expect cruisers using shields and armor to survive to work better than speed based setups.
Slightly off topic, but after a couple rounds of testing on chaos, we found that the Scythe is the best of the level 1 cruisers for 1 on 1 combat, and the Auguror the worst. Kinda fun to spend some time in the ships nobody uses

For one on one without ECM, I do agree that the Scythe is best among L1 cruisers, perhaps followed by the Osprey.
With ECM being rebalanced, I think PvP on cruisers is headed on the way who has the most missile launchers. That puts Amarr and Gallente ships in a distinct disadvantage.

skip the blasters on the thorax and go for some named rail guns instead. you migh not do as much damage in a single shot but the fire rate and the range can compensate for that. i love my thorax and think its actually a great ship for PvP
