Yesterday a Corp call Jewel Enterprises was attacked by a hacker that got in through someones account and then stole 17bils worth of assets and terminated the character. While I personaly think that CCP should replace everything i am sure that this will take time. In the mean time I think we as a community should help these guys out so they carry on playing and don't just give in. To this end I would like everyone to donate some isk to them. They are an industrial corp so anyone that can supply them with something be it BS bpc's or 1mil isk that would I am sure help and encourge them to continue playing.

Players are responsible for their own account security and corps are responsibile for setting up their corp so that a single hacked account cannot clear out all their assets. Also begging isn't allowed on this forum.

Thank you for this post Loki.
Its hard to put into words the amount of effort that was involved into getting the corp this far. Almost everything has been stolen or destroyed since the character hacked was a manufacturer and had been with us for almost 6 month, so he had a decent amount of access.
My only advice to CEO's is that you appoint a security officer to try to remind your members that they have a responsibility to the corp, by keeping their computer clean from keyloggers, trojans and setting strong passwords.
I wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy.
This wasnt sabotage, it was a breach of the EULA and i hope the CCP intercedes in this matters as we have essentially lost 9 months worth of hard graft through no fault of our own.

A freind of mine got hacked, podded repeatedly and robbed of his stuff. It all got replaced. Have faith (and patience) with the GM's.

From what I've heard from past incidences like this, I think the GMs will investigate and refund if there has indeed been an attack on someone's account.
Either way, I'm really sorry for the loss and it's a disgustingly low blow.

Seriously, out-of-game problems should not be solved using in-game resources. Let the GMs handle it.

Termination of a character isn't an instantaneous click he's gone, theres a 24 hour delay I'm pretty sure, nice try though.
Let the GM's figure it out.

Hello, I have recently discovered a belt of high-end ore in empire through the new exploration mechanics. I estimate the value of the ore to be over 1B ISK. Unfortunately I do not have a ship which can mine this ore in a reasonable amount of time. I would be willing to split the value of the ore with you if you will invest a mere 200M towards the purchase of a hulk to mine this ore.

Nah, this seems pretty legit, and if we can get confirmation that it is and that it will take time to get the stuff back I may even send some iskies on myself.
I just really wanted to use the nigerian scam thingy in eve joke.

Which is the nub of the issue. We only have the word of players that it took place. Could be a scam for all I know (I 90% sure its not). Hence why support should be voiced and then left to the GMs

as a follow up (in light of the last post), is it possible to lock an account out if it is being spammed with passwords? I appreciate there's nothing much you can do against that otherwise... apart from having a secure password.
When I say secure, I mean a password you don't use anywhere else... is at least 8 chracters long... is a combination of alhanumeric upper and lower case...

Its hard to run a large corp without trusting certain people, and at the end of the day this isnt about giving access to some shady character. The guy who was hacked and had his char deleted had been with us from the beginning and his integrity was beyond refute.
The point is that you cant run a corp without certain people having access, and if they get hacked, there is very little you can do to stop the hacker getting hold of expensive assets.
Yes, it then falls to personal responsibility for the security of the account - but i fail to see how the CEO/Directors can prevent it.
I feel people see this as an ingame infiltration/sabotage when the account was compromised externally, apparently using a brute force attack without the owner knowing.

There isn't anyway to stop someone trying a thousand times or more until they get the password all they need is your username. Everything else on the internet has a lot more security but not Eve.

What kind of sad person does things like that. People play for hours to build something up and some jack ass comes along and tries to destroy everything. No compassion for his fellow person. Probably neglected as a child or something.

The problem with locking accounts on password attacks is that even the legitimate owner would be either to login then. So it either requires a second identification method or an ip based lock. Add an exponential increasing timer between login attempts and there won't even be that many attempt to break into an account.
