I've just become somewhat aquainted with the political and factional climate of the game as I've been reading about these conflicts over the Curse and Stain regions...I was wondering what other wars and terroritorial conflicts the game has seen and what major alliances have formed, fallen and survived those times? If any of you veterans out there would like to share some stories, you can be sure you've got an audience :P

well:
SA kicking out M3G4 in the early days. RUS declaring war against SA (which one have to say RUS lost).
Big war in Fountain between one side that wanted fountain for themself and one side that opposed to that. After some days they made peace and together formed the FA. m0o-sinc-RUS attacking FA, which one have to say FA won, even though the attackers caused big harm.
The war against the Venal Alliance which was beaten and reformed into 2 new alliances. A war in which TTI and the pirates in that alliance was beaten by the NVA (which was supported by many other corps). The war in Venal has continued, and the new Venal alliance has taken heavy losses against the pirate corps, who has banded together in the "forsaken empire".

FA vs VA CFS vs CA CA vs SA SA vs RUS CC vs CA NVA vs SPVD Arcadia vs EVOL Arcadia vs ORS and pretty much everyone vs pirates
Some alliances that didn't last the test of time: Syndicate/Placid Venal Alliance Northern Alliance C4 (although being reformed?)
just off the top of my head, probably lots more smaller alliances risen and fallen, some others are Derelik Alliance, Great Wildlands, OMC, Empyrean Federation, just to name a few
basically its a game of alliance wars now, any small-mid sized corp better have their sh1t together if they even want to dream of having an impact on any alliance politics
and by small-midsized i don't mean member count, i mean active and regular members, ie: Space Invaders is small in roster but can still muster a fleet the size of corporations with twice the members since most of them are active (assumption)
My only suggestion is do not ask for war stories or tales or who the victor was because you will never get the truth. Not because everyone spins, but because wars aren't decisive and there is no clear-cut victor in most cases, both sides either become bored and reduce the attacks to small side skirmishes, or they both start picking different targets.
I would say the only alliance ingame that hasn't had a war so far is XETIC, for a few reasons
1) theyre new 2) everyone is too busy with other targets 3) Curse is near, most people dont like going to a hot area 4) Xetic is located in the ass end of the universe, quite barren 5) much of their members don't speak english so they can't get into flame wars and "omg, we can pwn you" type stuff
I would say their days are numbered though, even their own members admit it. There's no such thing as diplomacy in this game; why make peace (boring) when you can go to war.. about the last thing left to do for enjoyment.

You know, that last bit makes a lot of sense Digital...it seems to me that the only reason two sides in any conflict within this game would come to a peace agreement would be so they could turn thier warlike intentions on some other target. Thanks for the info guys...interesting stuff to read while out here mining the 'roids :p

one of the first grand battles was the one in Passari where Cornexant - NovaTech fleet were first to loose a battleship in EVE, as scorpion.

Cornexant had more than one at that time, and that was before the battle ;)
