Did all the miners quit the game? I haven't done manufacturing since back in the Slowcat war where I was producing t2 sentries and selling for a nice profit. I decided like with everything in EVE I needed something new to do. For fun and for profit to keep me interested in the game.
I did some maths and figured out what I wanted to build and figured I would get enough minerals for 10 caps in a stockpile before I started to build anything. However there aren't even enough minerals in Jita to build 10 caps.
This thing says I need over a million units of compressed Scordite however there isnt more than 300k on the market and some are expensive. So I thought yea Ill buy 100 million units and compress them HA! There may be 3 million units on the market.
I'm sure most of you will say "It's my little secret" but I honestly don't see how anyone can build capitals with an empty mineral market, how in the heck are you guys getting minerals?
Should I be building 425s and 800mm guns like the old days? |

Look into the null sec compressed ores rather than the high sec ones. You should have access to more than enough.
Maybe use Spodumain for your pyrite needs? May be cheaper for minerals you need? |

I don't know about other regions, but very little of the Ice and Ore mined in GoonSpace makes it onto the Empire markets. It's generally all sold to industrialists within the coalition.

OK place your buy order for a million units,
increase price until filled. |

Highsec miners generally don't have access to compression arrays. That's why there's not enough comrpessed ore. |

This was meant to be a WTF post more than anything. I expected there to be enough minerals on the Jita market at any given time to build a bunch of titans. It's surprising to me that with a high enough demand to keep the stock of minerals low in Jita that the isk per hour isn't better with mining.
High sec miners not having compression arrays is not the issue at all. If that was the case there would be tons of uncompressed scordite on the market. However if I bought the entire uncompressed market that would have only been about 3% of the minerals I needed.
Anyways not a problem, I will just look into doing something else for now.

Well, I'm not the most knowledgable player when it comes to industry, especially cap production, but shouldn't you be buying minerals from buy orders? 5% or so is a lot if you're building 10 caps. It may be that since relatively few people buy compressed ores from sell orders, there's equally relatively small amounts up for sale, when there's more passing to sell orders.
This is a signature.
It has a 25m signature.
No it's not a cosmic signature.
Probably.
Btw my corp's recruiting.

Citadels..
Like me a lot of small corps may have taken them down waiting for this change.
The last time I put compressed ore on the market in Dodixie it took weeks to sell.
So yeah, If nobody is buying much then I can't be bothered transporting it to market, so I mine less and manufacture with what I get.
In fact I mine more ice these days due to poor ore sales. |

I think you'll find that a lot of people are stockpiling in anticipation of the Citadel expansion. Those things use a massive amount of minerals and PI. Most of this is through corporate buyback so the ore/PI never makes it to market. The small amounts I buy for my operation are readily available at reasonable prices so there doesn't appear to be any shortage on the market. If you place a buy order for regular ore at above market pricing it probably won't take long to fill. |

I'm thinking the same, I've been sitting in the minerals and manufacturing channel the past few days for long periods of time while working on other things and have only seen one person actually try to sell veld ore. I took a break away from the game for a while too and this channel used to be flooded in the past with people selling and some even offering monthly contracts out when i was last active. This has left me thinking that Do Little is most likely right and that activity has fallen due to the citadel expansion.

Buy orders. I think you'll find that many, many, MANY miners just haul their ore to market and sell instantly. So the amount held in Sell orders may not accurately reflect the amount of ore and minerals moving through each day. |

How do you expect the market to be full of minerals and ore when CCP has made mining non-profitable unless you are doing multi-account mining. In a max skilled skiff you get about 15m isk/h and that is without accounting for small asteroids size where 1 asteroid of scordite can't fill a single cycle on a skiff.
Most miners resort to reprocess the minerals and build something with them or sell directly to buy orders locally instead of moving them to jita. |

Mining is not profitable because people mine.
Wait, what?
If you watched the fanfest presentation, the total value of assets is a multiple of ~3.14 of the total ISK available. To put it simply, there's so much available material on the market that the prices are really depressed because of the competition for a limited amount of ISK. And every m3 of ore you mine devalues it further as it adds to the surplus.

Once a miner is skilled up you can use the account for skill extraction and essentially play the account for free. All minerals are pure profit (no need to mine that 35m/day to break even on PLEX). I expect a slow but steady rise in the number of Orcas orbited by 4 or more procurers and skiffs in highsec.
My nullsec contacts often prefer to build carriers and dreads using their own capital BPO collection (not so rare when some people have been playing for 10+ years). Exporters offer Jita-buy-price -10% which is not very attractive.
CCP has published the most active mining regions: http://content.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/70162/1/3_mining.value.by.region.png. Find the most active regions and see if you can set up deals there. (Hint: supply in Deklein may have been diminished by recent events.)

I'm doing exactly this, except with Ice. 1 orca, 1 freighter, 9 skiffs
