Dear Galnet readers,
I would like to introduce myself. I am Natasha Donnan I am a graduate of studies from the state war academy. I am continuing my work from the academy in new directions and have started a study of other cultures and systems of thought. As an example of the kinds of work I am currently undertaking I have recently started looking at Gallente architecture, specifically the design of their space stations and ships. I am not particularly interested in the modules but rather the shape and concepts behind the designs.
Having only recently entered 'Pod related' society I must say I am shocked at the variety of opinions and political leanings I have found. I find it hard to get a grasp of coherence through the cacophony of voice. As a result I feel at a loss to find my place and to grasp a sense of where to go or what to do with myself. In many ways I am at a loss when I consider the future. I am almost too frightened to take my first steps.
Then a thought occurred to me perhaps one way to find my way. To begin my first steps into the future would be to ask you, the representatives of your various organisations, to explain something to me. Something small. What I would like is if you could help me by either officially, unofficially in the name of your organisation or personally in whatever way you see fit. To answer to the following basic question.
If you were to realise the best society, your dream society, here on the cluster. What would it look like?
Of course I can secure a lot of this information from sources outside Galnet but then some ideas might suffer by comparison because of the resources various factions have and so on. Rather, what I would like to do, if I could be so bold to ask, is to study all the visions of this cluster together collectively on their own merits. Situated together for all to see.
This information might prove useful to the many who are in a similar position.
Yours humbly
Natasha. _________________________________________ The Girl with the really Starey eyes. |

Utopias can't be realized.
The best society which is somewhat realistically attainable, in the belief and opinion of Astropolitan Front, is a true unicultural Astral society following the example set by CONCORD during the time since its founding.
An extraplanetary society with as little political and cultural dependancy on any single planetary culture as possible, where the average citizen thinks of him- or herself not as a Minmatar, Amarr, Caldari or Gallente, but as an Astropolite, or extraplanetary citizen.
An interstellar community built on common laws, with a strong CONCORD to lead its diplomatic endeavors, facilitate its economy and trade, and administer peace.

Natasha,
Like you I am fairly new to Galnet. I agree with Natasha that there can be no perfect Utopia.
Like most of my kind I have taken with the idea that Utopia is what I make of it. It saddens me that the Federation no longer is part of my dream for a perfect world. I have taken in with a great corp who is willing to show me the splendors and horrors of 0.0 space.
Perhaps in time I will carve my own paradise out of some remote star system.
I hope this helps you in your quest.
Kindest Regards,
Dominus

Edited by: Spoon Thumb on 09/02/2007 17:59:49 I can't comment on perfect, but i'll try to sum up the culture of the Khanid Kingdom where I currently reside (It seems to work pretty well):
The Kingdom has a caste system, where you belong to a select "Caste" depending on your parentage. Your caste decides your future career and social status (in general) and as such you are educated accordingly.
Special mention to the lowest caste, the "slaves". Slavery is a key part of society, whereby slaves spend a lifetime of servitude to help them realise and attain the enlightened state of understanding that the other caste's enjoy, basking in the glorios sunshine of the true, and most holy almighty God.
In practice, the Kingdom can ill afford to instigate the cruel and venal practices that in other lands sadly often give slavery a bad name. Instead a more pragmatic approach is used, taking slaves from a range of cultures and peoples still left in the "darkness" as well as putting them to good use in an efficient and productive ways that ultimately lead to better results.
This attitude spills over into business life, with many of the Kingdoms citizens and closest allies coming from the Caldari race. The Kingdom has far more open business practices that have attracted the Caldari over the years leading to a strange blending of cultures in many respects
This leads to a society where things get done, and I think it is a credit to the Kingdom's culture that it is able to project its influence beyond its borders in the face of much larger rivals

To sum it up. Being a slave for another is utopia for the slaver. Sheesh! How predictable.

Not what i said (didn't say it was "perfect", I think that is impossible for mere mortals. One could say that the defenition of God is "perfection")
Think of it like the pupil/teacher relationship. You may (as a young child) at times get frustrated and rebel when at school you are forced to do "algebra" or "P.E" but ultimately as you mature, you realise that the teacher is there to help you.

Utopias are not needed at all, for utopia already exists in the Universe. The Amarrian Empire is all that can be aspired for humanity, the perfect jewel in space, a beacon of purity and light amist the darkness that surrounds it. Explaining it is too hard and futile, there are numerous texts regarding it, explaining our culture and actions ((Check the chronicles)). But, in the end, it's something you have to experiment by yourself. --------------------- Signature removed due to incorrect size (400X120px and 24000 bytes).
